My favorite-ever DJ, Don Slack, retired last night after decades on KEXP in Seattle. He said that this was going to be the last song he played to kill off his DJ persona, but his wife convinced him it would be too intense or something like that. So, we're here this morning--whoa!
I was blessed to know Moris Tepper for a short time in my life. He did a lot of guitar tracking for Pixies back in the day as a studio musician. What he told me about working with them and the stuff he showed me sonically will forever be imprinted subconsciously and unintentionally on the stuff I work on, and I'm very happy for it. There's songs on this album and things about their sound that remind me of nights in LA with that gentleman when he taught me so much me about music, gardening, and life that today I'm starting to yet still don't understand. It's like this song was a part of my life before I ever heard it and at this point I've said too much tbh. This song hit different and this album is a record

I don't give new music a chance very much, I'm pretty picky and set in my ways ...but somehow this came on and it became one of those powerful musical tractor beam moments where everything else ceases to exist and I was fully enthralled by the surprisingly evocative magic here that I found to be a vibe I apparently needed in my life.... It snuck up on me. Thanks for the unexpected intense feels. Y'all have become the excitingly rare new addition to my very particular esoteric regular listening mix.

I just learned of them via another band’s fan FB page. I’m completely enamored! And seriously bummed that they have toured within a simple drive for me a few months ago, and I was unaware. Not anymore…
I like everything about this. The creative purity, the trippy visuals. A lot of smart choices were made on all levels. Didn't think I'd make it through the full running time, but I was captivated throughout. Keep up the good work, I'm definitely going to check out your other stuff.

I feel like they are playing from the heart. Can't wait to hear what they do next. Thanks a million, Wednesday! x
I wouldn't say that it's shoegaze. I'm hurtling towards 50 and honestly most of the shoegaze was utter self indulgent wank at the time the first time around. A few bits of 'Ride' were okay but most of it was dire. I would say this is more to do with the brutal honesty of PJ Harvey at the time, or the discordant nature of Sonic Youth when they were firing on all cylinders but the song structure is new. More like the song structure of Black Country New Road or Black Midi. Just have at it. Not for radio, new form, totally. It's a good one this. It really is. I see it as something new, even though I was there in the 90s at the time. It shares some seeds from that. But this is original. I love it. There's one thing that the new kids do that I love, artistically. And they drag and song kicking and screaming through it's length. Like 'hey you, you're coming with me' I've got you buy the collar. It happens with electronica, hip hop, rock and indie. That urgency is now. Like it's gonna be over soon, you're all I have before the doom, so you're coming with me. It's an utterly fresh feeling. It makes me feel alive. Even though I'll be dead before this band or you are. Shoegaze was wank at the time and already dead on arrival. This is not.
