    Thank you for this video. Very thorough and easy to understand. My door to the garage quit working when I heard a snap. Your video explains that the pin mush have popped out. I can’t find it on the floor so I will be going to Home Depot for a new hinge. Wish me luck as I’m a 70 year old, mildly talented, woman. But I wanted to let you know you had the best instructions.

    Great video, and the ONLY one that explains how to get the pin out. Some videos recommend snipping off the pin when finished for tamper proofing, and mine does not have a head on it.

    tried to install these because I failed a fire inspection. They screwed on fine but they were causing my door to hit the frame on the latch side.( not even close to closing) They are much fatter than the original hinges. So I had to put the original ones back in. Do I need to chisel or route out the hinge side frame to give these more room?

    So if the pin falls out of the door it looses all its tension and you have to find the pin and put it back in? Or if the pin falls in to far then you’re out of luck and can’t adjust it anymore since you can’t get the pin out?

    • @DaveMedicus

      Yes, you can still get the pin out but a magnet does help if you are working solo.

    • @DaveMedicus

      Lancelot Achilli yes you will just adjust them evenly to get the desired result

  • @chuckygman4058
    @chuckygman4058 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why are you not using it also on the other door that makes sense to have it on both doors you need to have it on both doors I hope you take my advice and I was a good video how to install it and do the tension on there but you still need another one for the other door

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. The second door is an exterior door which will never be left open longer than it takes to get someone through the door. When it is open its not a problem either. There would only be a split second that the doors have the possibility to touch when two people are opening the doors at the same time. Adding a second hinge would not solve this problem. Keeping the basement door closed was the only thing that needed to be done. Thanks for watching.

    Hi, i have door hinge, may i know if i buy a new hinge will it fit exactly the old holes position? My door frame is metal so the hinge holes are fixed, so i am looking for exact hole position like my old hinge, i wonder if every door hinge holes are at standard distance apart standard size?
    Before I buy, how to know will the new door hinge will fit into the old hinge hole position? Thanks

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are standard. You need to know how many screws you have and if you have square or rounded hinges. With all of that information you should be able to figure it out.

    • @jasonl4237
      @jasonl4237 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DaveMedicus You only changed the lower one hinge to springe loaded door hinge and use the old top normal hinge, I wonder if the door is not aligned parallel to the door frame now after installing new hinge? I notice the the new middle cylinder rod part is thicker than the old normal hinge cylinder rod part, I was wondering if your upper hinge (old hinge) gap between frame and door is it smaller than your lower hinge (new spring loaded hinge) gap between frame and door? Thanks.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jasonl4237 it’s the exact same size. The outside is larger because it houses the spring. The dimensions that attach to your door are standard and caused no issues for me.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Popler they just make sure that it closes. Other than using a door stop I don’t know what would prevent your door from slamming shut. Thanks for watching

    • @richardstoffel6585
      @richardstoffel6585 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use a 3 or 4 valve door closer. You can adjust tension opening door, closing door, and latching strength.
      Spring loaded hinges are good for interior doors. If it’s an exterior door, I’d recommend going with a door closer rated for your door weight and usage.

      Anonymous all of the door handles that I have ever installed (100s) have all wanted the curved handle to start at the bottom and curve up. If it’s the top down like the basement door it’s a catching hazard for keys and other items. We have even tested this out to see how true it was because I personally think it looks better the other way. That could be just the difference in manufacture ad products but who knows. I used to sing a song to remember how they went when installing. “Started from the bottom now we’re here”
