The would be 1 option. Another option would be to get some painters tape, and simply cover the hinge with tape. The once you are done painting, remove the tape.
I tried to install these because I failed a fire inspection. They screwed on fine but they were causing my door to hit the frame on the latch side.( not even close to closing) They are much fatter than the original hinges. So I had to put the original ones back in. Do I need to chisel or route out the hinge side frame to give these more room?
Thanks man, needed to see that spring loaded mechanism and was able to find out how to work on an existing one without finger pinches from a quick scan through your video
Update: WOAH! My garage door has THREE of these hinges already installed, but the previous homeowner must have removed all the pins. I notice the holes are not aligned for me to reinsert pins if I buy some though. Any ideas? Update #2: Called a homebuilder buddy and he said installers commonly install the hinges upside down, so that's likely why my pinhole is misaligned. The Alan keys are all 3 at the bottom and not at the top. I'm going to flip the middle hinge and see if I can gently hammer it down a little if needed and see if everything is lined back up. Then flip the remaining two or just one depending how many are needing to close properly. I also will have to use a tap nail as my pins. Cut them down to size with pliers. (That's what they do on installs he said, and it stops the pin from ever fully going in.) Finale: Left them upside down. Used a hammer to lightly tap the bottoms up to realign the holes. Cut three tap nails down to size and made myself pins that are perfect.
Mine came with the pin installed and I can’t remove it and I tried to install it like that but then thought how am I gonna adjust it so might just return it and that’s it
My top of the circular hinge is flat. There is no Allen key hole. Only just the little hole on the vertical cylinder, and a bunch of little pin holes down at the bottom part of the cylinder. Any idea how to load it.
You don't. The door stop replaces the pin in a standard hinge or pivots on it, these do not have a typical center pin, nor do they have an easy way to mount any kind of wedge to them which is what the pin mounted door stop is. Any door mounted doorstop would need to be mounted directly to the door itself, or you'd need to move to a floor or wall mounted doorstop.
Those screws on the door side are more commonly referred to as thread cutting. Self tapping usually indicates the non threaded cutter head at the tip of a screw.
Thanks for the explanation on increasing tension as well as decreasing. I watched four videos and none covered as well as yours.
I’ve watched 3 videos then yours. Thank you for actually showing each step and without hands in the way. Off to hardware to buy the hinge!
Thank you for the time you took to make this. It really helped!
Super awesome video thanks😊😊😊
Also, buy a set of bits and use a cordless drill for winding the spring. Allen wrench I'd be there 3 hours LOL
Wow, My moms door has these and they were super tight. No wonder it slammed closed! Thanks! I loose fed them and no more slam just a normal close
Good content a different channel didn’t have a hinge with this kind of mechanic. I appreciate the info
If the pin gets to deep in the hole just use a magnet to pull it out of it (that's what i did and it works).
Thanks a lot for a nicely done informational video.
Good explanation body
Well done and understood
Very good explanation. Much appreciated. Liked and subbed.
How many can you tighten the spring?
Thank you for your helpful video. I appreciate it. :)
My door is sagging on the top. Do you think I can adjust the door hinges, or is there something I need to adjust or to fix? Thanks
I would take a 2 inch construction screw and replace one of the screws on the frame side. This should pull the hinge back into the frame.
Thanks for the video. How do you remove these type of hinges to paint the door? Do I need to unscrew the hinge from the door Jam? Thank you!!
The would be 1 option. Another option would be to get some painters tape, and simply cover the hinge with tape. The once you are done painting, remove the tape.
@homerepairhub so to be clear you cannot remove the pins on this style hinge? They don’t slide out?
@@Mrscottyboy4 correct, there is no hinge pin. It is 1 piece.

Very good explanation.
Does it matter what position the spring hinge and 2 normal hinges are located?
Thank you so much! This was so helpful !
Can these hinges to used for the opposite purpose? Like to prevent :: cough:: teenagers :: cough:: from slamming doors?
Excellent video
Very helpful thank you!
Do these ever need shims?
Thanks man, needed to see that spring loaded mechanism and was able to find out how to work on an existing one without finger pinches from a quick scan through your video
Helpful video. 👍 Thanks

Where is the link to purchase this type of sp;rinig?
Thanks!
I bought mine at home depot
Mine just has a Phillips screw on the bottom. I dont see a oin anywhere.
It's a gate hinge.
God bless brother.
How do you install a door stop hinge on this type of hinge?
You don't.

Thank you 🙏🏿
Thanks for the video!
I just installed my hinge by watching your video.
In the back of the package doesn’t give clear instructions.
Glad it helped. Thanks for the feedback

How do I stop a self closing hinge from squeaking?
Grease, WD-40, or just change it out
Food Grade Sylicone keeps Lubricated for up to 6 months
The best place and time to put it is when you keeps saying close the door, close the door. Well I am done so time for a loaded hinge.
