Didn’t need this for this for the review aspect, because our house came with them on the door to the garage. I didn’t know how to “turn off” the spring so I started searching around and found this video! Thank you!!
After living in an apartment for over a year with this slamming my front door, I finally decided to loosen these and I've never been so afraid of an allen wrench, but my door doesn't slam as loud anymore.
In case this would still help anyone, you should only need 1, possibly 2 of these hinges for a particularly stubborn door. I wouldn't recommend replacing all hinges with a spring hinge, as the variable tension on a single hinge can usually do the trick, and in the event you have to remove the door, the spring hinges will just end up creating more work, since you can just pop the pin out of a standard hinge. The search term you can use on your website of choice for hardware is simply "spring door hinge".

My mfg of this similar hinge was Home Depot Brand EVERBILT Adjustable Spring Hinge: One thing the instructions did NOT mention is if you install the hinges on the right side of door facing where the door knob is on the left you have to mount the hinge where the adjustment screw that uses a 5/32 allen wrench is turned to be on the BOTTOM, and NOTE: In having to do this the tightening of the tension of this screw is OPPOSITE.
IF you are having issues with getting the hex wrench to tighten enough due to NOT being able to put enough leverage on the hex wrench then get a socket that has the 5/32 hex bit that will fit a ratchet wrench, then you can crank down on the adjustment with not problems. WEAR safety glasses while installing

I had to modify the opening to accommodate the new hinge.
Box stores did not have ones that matched the old hinge.
Still worked...just involved a bit of trimming to fit.

Hello, do you know how many spring hinges are needed on an 8 ft hollow core door to function correctly? Thanks!
tried to install these because I failed a fire inspection. They screwed on fine but they were causing my door to hit the frame on the latch side.( not even close to closing) They are much fatter than the original hinges. So I had to put the original ones back in. Do I need to chisel or route out the hinge side frame to give these more room?

How the hell do you get the pin back out to readjust the door? There years later and spring needs tightened up....
Needle nose pliers, and or a strong magnet, matter of fact I noticed such a issue when I installed mine, suggest seeing what size the O.D. of the pin and getting a stainless steel bolt the same size that has a head on it so future adjustments are easier
Do you have to replace all the hinges on the door, can you just replace one hinge with the self closing hinge.
You can use 1 or 2 or 3 spring hinges on your door depending on the size and weight of the door. Also matters if you have any resistance to closing like a threashold weatherstrip. It is recommended not to put a spring hinge at the top hinge location unless all the hinges are spring hinges. Also if you only use one or two spring hinges you should use ball bearing hinges for the rest of the hinges.

Does it matter if tension thingy is on top or bottom? The holes on mybdoor frame and door are 4 but the pattern starts left then right the left then rigth. Like a zig zag

Great video. Hinge looks good. But is it worth to mess up with structural part like hinge rather than installing a dedicated door closer and/or a simple auto latch ?
How many of these hinges do you need per door? Just one or more?
We only used ONE per door & they work fine for us, BUT we have a double wide with thin cheap doors, MAYBE a stick frame built house with like solid wood doors you MIGHT need more per door
