I have a fresh pair of Triumph 20s that I need to wear through... hopefully the Ride 17 will be on sale by then. Agree with you on Saucony uppers, they always fit very well.
Great review Andy, helped on my decision to get to Ride 17. I had to return a pair of Boston 12s as the hard plastic overlay on the upper was digging into the top of my foot. The Ride 17 step in comfort is streets ahead of the B12. Looking forward to a 10 mile steady run in them tomorrow.
Just like you, I struggle with the heel in the triumphs. I think they benefit heel strikers greatly but for me that strikes mid to forefoot, the heel gets in the way. I definitely see myself buying like 4 or 5 pairs of the ride 17
Game changer for long runs. I have a wide foot and this is perfect. Bought it here in Ireland last week. First run I did was 12 miles and it was great. Nice to slip it in to a rotation with the speed 3. The weight isn't an issue for me. Love the channel Andy👍
Im on a long haul flight at the moment Andy and have binged all your recent content on it. This is tempting. I feel like I want (certainly dont need!) a new long/easy ish kinda run shoe and this could be an option. Not a massive fan of the £130 RRP though so may go for a slightly older shoe which is heavility discounted. All these recent videos have been class and helping me pass the time so thanks!
They need to keep powerurn foam in the kinvara because that's what makes it a kinvara! :P some of us enjoy firm foams. You and I know there's enough soft and bouncy foams out there
Yeah totally understand that and I personally prefer firmer foams anyway... the kinvara 14 compound feels miles different to the ride 15/16.. that felt very dense whereas the kinvara feels like it has more "air in the foam" if that makes any sense!
Like I said on a different channel, the ride 15 was a brilliant light weight daily trainer, adding weight I think lowers the flexibility. It’s now a triumph mini(midi) standard pwrrun is a brilliant all around foam. May it live on.
Well these are available for sale right now on the Saucony website here in France!🤷🏻♀ AND €45 cheaper than the T21!! You totally piqued my interest yesterday when you said it's basically the Triumph with a lower drop as that suits me better too, even though I'm a heel striker! And what's more the T20 is just lasting and lasting so if this does the same it sure improves it's value for money too!! Yes, I've heard a lot of people say they preferred previous versions to the 16. Thanks Saucony too for those gusseted tongues, much appreciated!!
It held up well in all honesty.. I had gritty trail for most of it but when I hit the frozen and wet concrete is was pretty good, didn’t notice any issues at all with grip 👍
So apparently the triumph is going to pwrrunpb according to another comment from someone who was at the running event this week… so it feels a bit like this is moving into triumph territory and the triumph is going into unknown territory (high stack with pwrrunpb)… if you went for ride 17 or triumph 21 it really then depends on whether you like the 10mm drop of the triumph or if an 8mm drop works better for you 🤨
I feel a bit conflicted about these. I really enjoy the Ride 15 because it’s so unfussy - light, and fits so well I can almost forget it’s there. I often reach for the Rides instead of my Novablasts because the Novablasts just feel bulky by comparison (and the fit isn’t as good… they’re nowhere near as breathable, and they’re quite slappy. I don’t get the hype). I’m always aware of them in one way or another on my run. At first glance another potentially bulky Novablast-ish shoe, that’s significantly heavier, isn’t something I’m excited about so I’ve started to consider different shoes. However I’ll be keeping an eye on what reviewers say about them after some longer term reviews.
I welcome this update, but i wonder how much it will cannabillize the Triumph? I'm certainly tempted to switch over to the Ride when I'm looking for my next training shoe.
Hi Andy! How would you rate this shoe compared to the Endorphin Speed 3 that currently sells for the same price? The Speed 3 is much lighter and has the speed roll technology. I do all my trainings in it and I think it is great and durable. Can you think of any unique feature the Ride 17 has, why you might prefer the Ride 17 over the Speed 3 on some occasions?
I have ride 15s with 700+ km, I want to retire exhaust them fast so that I can buy 17 But I noticed the comfort keeps getting better with usage on Ride 15s
Funny how Adidas dropped Boost foam because of being viewed as too heavy and too old and yet Saucony are using the exact same foam with success !!!! Best foam imo for daily runs. So resilient.
Always have to try a Puma shoe..I hope NB go back to the last version sc trainer..I bought several prs for long runs cos the current one is a brick..the fuel cell line is the best foam NB has used, but not consistently used in their line..they can't seem to dial in the stack and durometer together in 1 shoe other than the 1st sc trainer for road running..
Nice thoughts. Agree with you on the Ride 15/16, old school/bland/boring etc (yet enjoyed the light weight of the 15) and also found the heel of the Triumph 20 got in the way big time so despite enjoying the foam/fit I just couldn't warm to it. Long story short, I think I'll give the Ride 17 a crack. Ps. I also enjoy slightly firmer shoes in the 6-8mm range. Besides the Hyperion Max, what other shoes would you throw into that category? (Pps. I enjoyed the ride of the Boston 12 but found the toe box for too narrow).
This wouldnt be too far away in all honesty, although its a bit softer than the hyperion max, its not super soft and that why I enjoy it I think! I havent really tried anything else this year that comes close but I know the sketchers foams like in the razor excess that I tried a couple of years ago was similar
@@TheFODRunner Thanks Andy. Appreciate it mate. There aren't many firmer (yet responsive) options left these days amidst the bigger/softer/bouncier arms race!
For me it is yes... the lower drop helps... but the triumph is still 4g lighter so I feel both could do the job... it just comes down to if you prefer the 8 or 10 mm drop
I just ain't really getting along w/ my new Speed 2. I like my Triumph 20 more, though both are sloppy in my right foot. How's this compared to those two? ty
Ride 15 and Triumph 20 have terrible tight midfoot, even the wide versions are still narrower than Pros and Speeds. Saucony's slow shoes are narrower than performance shoes doesn't make sense, hopefully they fix these bugs on Ride 17.
I was wondering how you would get on with the heavier weight because I know you're sensitive to that with your shoe size. BTW, I just ordered the Hyperion Max for US$65; I hope I like it as much as you do.
@Frichilsasta08 none of them work for me..I use to buy them for the insoles and give away the shoe..unfortunately they changed to a different insole so I won't be buying anymore..Saucony has very good quality but something is off with the last or some combination of foams/midsoles..I used them since 1980 until hoka and skechers came on the scene and blew them out of the water and Saucony never has caught up..but most runners seem to like them..just not this one..

I have the triumph 19, triumph 20, ride 16, tempus.. And most days when i look at those shoes, I gravitate to one of the endorphin speed models.
Just like you, I struggle with the heel in the triumphs. I think they benefit heel strikers greatly but for me that strikes mid to forefoot, the heel gets in the way. I definitely see myself buying like 4 or 5 pairs of the ride 17
Agree the T20 certainly for heel strikers!!
Yeah if you are midfoot/forefoot the ride 17 will work much better!
I just love the gussets on the Saucony Brand! Thanks for Review looks like a good everyday shoe. If it is anything like the Triumph, I'm IN!
In TRE in Austin last week, Triumph 22 has been revealed! It's getting pwrun PB.
Oh wow.... oh wow!
@@TheFODRunner And an 8mm drop.

Amazing news, so glad its working for you already! Thank you
Wow I had no idea saucony released to Europe before the states. That's interesting. I'm guessing the triumph will also come sooner to Ireland too
@@Frichilsasta08 bought in a small local running store. Always go there cos I wear orthotics. Lovely place and the owner knows his stuff.

Ah super, I was told Jan 1st so thats a bonus! Yeah I think this will work for a lot of people, a really positive move from Saucony on this one!
Hi Andy good review, I found the grip on the 15 to be very poor in wet conditions, is the grip better on the 17?
It held up well in all honesty.. I had gritty trail for most of it but when I hit the frozen and wet concrete is was pretty good, didn’t notice any issues at all with grip 👍
Thanks Andy! stability ? I had the TRiumhp but dont like a 10mm drop - 8 is better as the heel in the triumph is so built up!
Yeah it’s decent, the firm heel counter and slightly wider midfoot helps it feel more stable than its predecessors
Andy help!....I am a fan of the Triumph....the ride is actually heavier....should I bother with the ride? What am I missing?

The triumph is moving to pwrrunpb midsole apparently… so there should be a clear distinguishment
I use both the Triumph 20 and the Ride 16 and do well with both. Sounds like the Ride 17 will be a great replacement for them when the time comes.
It will indeed!

Is it more similar to the triumph 18s or ride15? Thanks
Fit - Ride 15 is narrow for me. Triumph 21 is OK.. How is the fit of the Ride 17?
So it looks like the 17 is now half a centimetre wider across the midfoot than the 16, just measured it 👍
I have ride 15s with 700+ km, I want to retire exhaust them fast so that I can buy 17
But I noticed the comfort keeps getting better with usage on Ride 15s
Can't wait to try these. Looks like they render the Triumph almost pointless.

Triumph 20 drop felt like a 12mm drop and toebox was too narrow. Ride 17 looks good, though I wouldn't mind a 6mm drop.
I really don't like the heel in the Triumph 20 and 21.. But still love it. I think the Ride 17 is much heavier?
Ride 17 is 4g heavier than the triumph 21 in my UK 13
The heel is not as mushy or as noticeable in the Ride 17 compared to the Triumph 21. Ride 17 feels more stable too.

Hello,
Is there noticeable arch support? It looks like there's some sculping on the medial side.
Thanks!
I know what you mean… but you don’t notice anything when running… I should think that’ll come in the guide 17 when that’s released 👌
Sick colorway man :)
I just ain't really getting along w/ my new Speed 2. I like my Triumph 20 more, though both are sloppy in my right foot. How's this compared to those two? ty
This is similar fit to the triumph but obviously a smaller drop... but a similar shape sillhoutte of a shoe... much different to the speed 2!
@@TheFODRunner Triumph 20 is still a bit firm of a ride. NOT plush and soft. Ride is harder/firmer than Triumph 20?

Idk if this helps but I had the same issue with the ride 15 but the ride 16 was a wayyy better fit
Measured them this morning on the outsole base and the 17 is just over 1/2 a cm wider than the 16... so its expanded in the midfoot slightly!
Ride 17 is the new Triumph and the Triumph 22 is now the old Speed 3 with out the plate.
Looks like it!

Triumph goes to powerrun pb 😅
That’s exciting 👍
Or just get a Triumph 20 instead for £50 😅
So it is a triumph??? Wierd...
A triumph with less drop… someone commented saying the triumph 22 is going to pwrrunpb so this could explain the change
