I saw this performed in Chicago with my mom, she died shortly, and The Planets will always be a very special piece of music for me, I miss her every day.
As an alto sax player, I had a love/hate relationship with this piece! I ADORE it, it sounds amazing, but the chops it takes kills me, all those whole notes! My embouchure was atrocious by the end of those rehearsals 😂
My school plays an excerpt from this song for a stand tune in marching season and taking my part (2nd trombone) down 2 octaves is the coolest thing ever the only thing is I can't sustain those notes for long enough
Breath control is a discipline and hell no it isn’t easy! Some don’t get it and the rest don’t matter. The trumpet solo of the title song of Maynard Ferguson’s Hollywood is a perfect example. There are others I’m sure. There are those who are gifted and those who aren’t. It helps to be gifted.
@@markphilpot8734 right on. Easy experiments are straightforward. A long stanza might be 18-25 seconds. And that's long. Take a huge gulp of air without raising your shoulders, just your diaphragm, and let the air out of your nose at a perfectly level rate. It's not too bad when it's five or six seconds. Still difficult, but you get used to it . Pushing ten seconds takes training. And those damned near impossible long notes at the ends of symphonies make you want to scream. I just tested myself and I made it 17 seconds, which is no slouch. Really long phrases take serious prep.
Was such a fun start to our marching band show, the following year a lot of other schools we went against that previous year included their own movement of mars in their shows 😂
You. Yes you. No I'm talking to you. That's rad, and an absolute lung destroyer :D Debussy and Copland on a clarinet are equally as brutal, and Martin on alto saxophone makes you want to gouge places out. I insist on Elgar next :)
When I played this piece with my orchestra, it was a blast to be in the bass section and the tube always tried to blast my ear drums out😂 (I’m a double bass)
Many tubist and trombonist Always thinking, euphonium is so simple But i don't think so When playing the song or pieces sheep's It is so different sound
An adapted version of this is in my marching band show music and it’s almost all just the triplet low g part but damn is it hard to breath while marching and playing that
That part is fun, but it sucks to do. I play trumpet and we ended up having to resort to 4 on/4 off (4 measures of playing, 4 measures of rest.) Lead/solo trumpet/cornet has to do that on an ledger A for 22 bars or something like that 😂
It’s that bright because it’s a baritone horn rather than a euphonium. Same length of tubing, but a euphonium begins widening almost immediately, while a baritone waits almost as long as a trombone does before doing so.

Played this in high school on euphonium and it was an absolute blast!
Same, but doing it in marching band was super rough
Same, I got to play the tenor tuba part in a side by side concert with a youth orchestra and the host orchestra
Euphonium lets gooooo
I saw this performed in Chicago with my mom, she died shortly, and The Planets will always be a very special piece of music for me, I miss her every day.
My condolence... I hope she is happy where she is
The brass section really carries Mars the Bringer of War
Note: The top part is Euphonium TC (treble clef, transposing) and the bottom part is tuba.
Yes
Bro ok thanks i was a little confused on what appeared to be an e sharp lol
I thought it was tenor clef
@@charlietian4023Then there would be missing and incorrect accidentals
@@littlewishy6432 I just assumed key signature was different but transposed treble makes more sense
THE PLANETS -- what a masterpiece!
As a trumpet player, this absolutely killed me in highschool
Endless triple tongued A’s. It was crackfest.
Me on bari sax fighting for my life cause our bass clarinet doesn't play loud
As a certified trumpet player who just played this in a concert three days ago, I think I’m still sore from it.
21 and 23 are reclaiming the cocoon!
We played this song for my school’s show choir, and being the bass bone, I just ripped it and it was so much fun
Literally every time i pick up a baritone i have the immediate urge to just start blasting DUNUNUNUN DUN DU DU DUN as loud as I possibly can 😅
Wow the baritone horn really soars with this excerpt. Awesome playing
Mars: The Destroyer of Lungs. Perfect
My brother played this in his marching band show last year! It was awesome! I am now in marching band and wish I could have been a part of that show.
the euphonium/baritone looks like a king instrument
It's from one of their subsidiaries

I play the tuba and We played this song at my school concert. It was a lot of fun to play especially the low brass part.
The perfect music for the opening battle in “Gladiator.”
Thanks for bringing the bass. Can't have heavy metal without it! 🤘

Those that don't know just don't know. It looks easy, yet so hard

One of my top classical songs
This is a marching band stand tune that some of my friends fangirl over lmao
This was always a fun stand tune at football games. Trumpet gang 🎺
The trombones are where it’s at
This is part of our pep band list
I love how excited you get. Of course the music is awesome and you play very well. 😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I love this.
My gamer brain: Hey, I’ve seen this one(Mario Galaxy)!
Me: What are you talking about, this is brand new to us!
Love that intensity 💪
My school is playing the field show version of Mars Venus and Jupiter for our 2023 show
My entire bass section in my high school band has PTSD from this one song
we're playing this in band!
Play the baritones solo in this song, I love that part
This part on trombone never failed to make me light headed lol
LET'S HEAR JUPITER!!!! ITS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!
Okay, it is really epic!!!
God bless you bro that’s awesome
hell yeah l;et the TUBA ROAR!!!
Hell yeah bruther. What would you like to hear next?

We play this for our marching band show
It is on my channel
My school plays this part of it as a stand tune it’s fun would love to play the full piece some day
We play this as a stand tune for marching band haha
So cool sounds❤

Yes!!! I love the planets! You should do Jupiter! My personal favorite :) and I’m a violist your content is great!
I played this back in high school on the French horn and that was the day I learned French horn can play bass clef xD my poor lungs
I'm playing this for my symphony class right now the trumpet I part is so unnecessarily hard 😭
When I played this piece with my orchestra, it was a blast to be in the bass section and the tube always tried to blast my ear drums out😂 (I’m a double bass)
nice❤
Ooh! The ostinato sounds like it’s out of Bolero

But i don't think so
When playing the song or pieces sheep's
It is so different sound
We are currently playing this in my middle school band and I agree it kills you coming from a trumpet player
How did I get to be my age and not know this section of Mars was in 5/4?!
So the tuba part is pitched just right for me to sing. You know, this composition would be fun by using just a choir.
our band plays this for third downs but i learned the piece beforehand so it wasn’t a problem
just get the patterns
Bowsers castle ahh beat
An adapted version of this is in my marching band show music and it’s almost all just the triplet low g part but damn is it hard to breath while marching and playing that
I just played this on bari
Bad time, sounds cool though
You're screaming sharp!
Very scary music

What’s the instrument with the curved bell?
It's a baritone horn. This one is a two piece with a curved bell. Pretty much every vertical bell is fixed
Oh ok thanks
What kind of euphonium is that. It’s so bright
It's some sort of Conn. The brightness comes from how small it is. It's not easy to tell on camera but the thing isn't much bigger than a trumpet
It’s that bright because it’s a baritone horn rather than a euphonium. Same length of tubing, but a euphonium begins widening almost immediately, while a baritone waits almost as long as a trombone does before doing so.
@@matthewwilliams2093 ty. now you have both simple and complex reasons as to the reason behind the timbre.
Is the top tenor clef?
Is that a conn 14i euphonium you have there?
It certainly is a Conn
@@felixtdiaz I knew because I have a 15i which is almost identical besides the upright bell
relax bro
What transposition is the Euphonium? Bb?
Yeah, it's Bb. Basically reads Bb trumpet music with an octave transposition

Hearing diff I guess
@@felixtdiaz I was kidding man it’s because it’s loud, the bass is awesome and you’re an excellent player

Not that practical for tubas to play such long notes

Stop puffing ur cheeks on the tuba. That’s bad technique.
