    I've been making Black Manhattans for a few years. I had one again recently. I think I'll be needing a new bottle of Averna soon. Thanks so much Cara. Great channel. BTW I love how you say "Amaro".

    Averna is becoming one of my favorite amari liquors. Excellent variation on one of my favorite drinks, the Manhattan. Averna alone on the rocks is really nice too for an after dinner drink.

    I work at Bourbon and Branch in SF where this drink was created. We still get it ordered every once in awhile even though it’s not on the menu anymore. Apparently this is one of the cocktails that popularized Amari being used in cocktails

    Great video. Any amaro works really well, alone with the rye or bourbon, or mixed with vermouth. Rammazzotti, montenegro, fernet branca, rabarbaro, nonino, all make great manhattans

    I love this drink, only Montenegro is my preferred amaro, as the first recipe I saw for this drink called for it. Goes great with Old Forester Rye. 2.5-1 ratio. I also use 2 dashes of each bitters and throw in a barspoon of syrup from the cherries.

    This looked so good I decided to use it to see what Amari are all about. Found Averna at my local wine merchant, took it home, and decided to try a little neat to see what I was getting myself into. And I'm hooked, on Averna at least. Made up a black Manhattan using .75oz Averna to 2oz Rittenhouse Rye, and again, hooked. Thank you!

    I drink Averna neat most evenings at home but love Black Manhatten's when I go out in the city 🍒 🖤 ✨ If I make a Black Manhatten at home, I have a sweet tooth 🦷 and I make mine with Jack Daniels Honey Whisky liqueur (roasted nuts/black molasses/honeycomb notes). I also put extra dashes of Angostura & Orange bitters and three Luxardo cherries lol. For a sexy twist, I go for a Bourbon Smoked & Maple sugar & black salt rim similar to a Black Margarita. More is more!

I'm def trying this Manhattan tonight, thanks!

    Weellllll here we go! It's been a few years now since there's been a decent comment on this illustrious video. My wife was raised in northern Italy, but had a Sicilian mother who kept some Averna readily available in the family bar. This is where I learned to appreciate this nicely herbal amaro. Now, being that my wife does like to take sips of my evening Manhattan's and she also likes the occasional quaff of the Averna, I'm wondering how much we might enjoy this little side variation on the illustrious Manhattan.

    • @danielcarter491
      @danielcarter491 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just made it as you had proscribed. Must say that I don't pick up too much of the Averna. Perhaps I should try it with the traditional Manhattan proportions to give it a bit more balls as you say. I do happen to split my whiskey between bourbon and rye - half each. Perhaps that is a factor as well.

    • @BehindtheBar
      @BehindtheBar  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for trying! I think if you drink Averna straight regularly you could definitely use more, it’s just quite a strong flavour so scares some people but it doesn’t sound like that would be the case for you 😜

      @@BehindtheBar We love having the Averna neat as an accompaniment to some desserts - coconut cream pie being one. @@BehindtheBar If this guy has that problem how am I to have any hope? I've got 22 plus the bitters, and the gins and vodkas in the freezer, and I just don't have more space. Nevermind the budget.
      Maybe I'll mix up a manhattan with some of our home made bourbon soaked cherries and stop worrying about it.

    Averna is good, tastes a little like coca cola. A lemon slice helps balance things out.

    Unfortunately Averna changed their design recently. Now, it looks pretty bad and cheap. I don't now why they had to change it at all.

    There are so many myths propagated in the bar tending community, and the bitter pith one is very dominant. The pith is not bitter, it is bland and almost tasteless. If you don't like it. take it off, but please don't claim you are doing because it is bitter. Just taste it an see. Don't propagate myths
