The great thing about these is that the makeup sponge gives a nicer concentration than the regular sponge daubers. Brilliant. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing the how to!
Just got done stuffing in my sponges. My friend's husband picked up thinner black PVC pipe for us & cut it. Still same size to stick finger in, but thinner walled pipe. They look just like the ones you buy!!!! I need to practice stuffing in my sponges because they tear a little. Same brand you have. Thanks for showing us how to do this!
Stacy...thank you so much for sharing this great idea with us! None of us want to spend our money on materials that we don't have to and this is such a great money saving thing! WOW! Spongeses from the Dollar STore, Pipe from Loews CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP...I can buy a bunch of paper for that and I make my own bling, so kudo's to You! You are the BOMB!
What a neato idea you did a great job at doing this....sure am glad you like pintrest 'cause you're bringing all the cool stuff right back to us! You go girl 'cause you ROCK!! Joan Smith
excellent video and idea. I really need to make some of these because i would love a dauber for each of my ink pads. fantastics. thank you! hugs, susan
Thank you!!! A DIY video of someone actually *making* these instead of just refilling them! DIY in true form. 😀 I don't play bingo, but I'm trying to figure out an alternative to glue sticks -- and you've just put me ever so much closer. Thanks again!
Omgosh Stacy, Tfs this awesome idea u found! I will be going to Home Depot ( heehee I'm lucky it's just up the street) after I drop my daughter off @ school! This is perfect! Plus I can go to the .99 cent store & get the sponges! Score! Donna
Ok. So I live in Vegas Stacy. The cutter cost 10.79 & I had to get the 1" PVC ( my short fat fingers, lol!!) & it cost 5.22 for 10'. Total w/ tax, $17.31! Not bad!!! Cause if I calculated correctly I can get 80 daubers out of it! Soo excited!!! Thanks again!!! Donna
Hi Elaine, Cheap and easy are two of my favorite words when it comes to crafting. Thanks for subbing, happy to have you here. If you have any questions please let me know Hugs, Stacy
Love it! Just did this, very easy, fits in the CTMH dauber keeper. Pipe cutter = $12 at Home Depot, 1/2" pvc pipe = $2.50, sponges = $2.50 for 8. Cut daubers at .75", number of daubers = 128, cost per dauber = $.42. Cost to buy an ink dauber = at least $1. Great deal!! (Can just label these by writing on them with a Sharpie!)
Great idea! And, if you have the coordinating SU markers that match your inks, you could write the ink names in the coordinating ink, so you can quickly see the color.
Hi, I am glad you tried this. They are hard to stuff and sometimes they do tear a bit. I usually just twist them around a lil once they are stuffed Hugs, Stacy
Hi Stacy, just finished making 72 daubers for my art classes k-8 to use. I thought about spraying the pvc with Pam but was concerned with bugs liking the smell. My friend, Calrol Blasko, suggested that we try hand creme and it worked great. It took no time at all to finish. Thanks for the great ideas. Shari
Shari Plis Hi Shari, Wow, you have been busy my friend. Fabulous idea about the hand cream, I will definitely by trying that out. Thanks so much for sharing that Hugs, Stacy
...while watching this for the second time, it occurred to me that if you were to use a dowel slightly smaller than the hole you could push with even pressure
You can use an ordinary hack saw to cut the PVC pipe - maybe it's a little more work to cut but you can save the cost of that specialty cutting tool. A Permanent marker like a Sharpie can be used to indicate the color.
Nice. But I'm hoping to find something to replace the black finger dauber foam. I don't see much point in replacing the finger tube part, when just the foam needs to be replaced.
Hi Wendy I was showing how to make the daybeds. I had the ready made kind before and I would imagine it would be the same process for replacing the foam
@@staccreates I wish i could. But the black ones are closed at one and and the round foam tips are just adhered to that closed end. If they were open at both ends, I would just run to the dollar store and get the foam, and do what you did for that part. I may just have to use the ends of the wedges. I inlulynuse the daubers for inking edges as it is. Not sure it matters if they are rou ded.. but, thank for the video! I might get all the tools, and make my own set, some time. Or find a way to cut off the closed ends 😏
Maybe a pencil to mark the length instead of risking losing a finger might be a good idea. Just saying. lol Great idea though, thanks. My hardware store would probably cut this for me if I ask nicely and bat my lashes. Hehe I'm not afraid to use my girl card, baby.
Hi! thanks for the video! daubers at the store run a little over a dollar each, how much do these run ya? I bet alot cheaper, but do you know the exact amount per homemade dauber? thanks!!!
Stacy, first of all I had to laugh, because I too am addicted to Pinterest, so much so I have over 340 Boards and a zillion (well it feels like that to me, or at least when I started) pins...Most of them are in order but I have been adding more. Tonight I made one under Crafts, MAKE YOUR OWN~ and I pinned your video to it..It helps so many people who can make their own and save their money for more crafts they want, like DIES...lol...My hubby has the pipe cleaner cutter, I have the sponges, so we are going to buy PVC pipe tomorrow..I subscribed to you and THUMBS UP! Thank you so much for sharing! (my board is under either Tori or Tori C.) just in case you ever need something, I am SURE I pinned it...lol
Hi Erin, I have not had an issue with them tearing or ripping. Are you referring to getting them into the pvc pipe or afterward? If after, I think they just break down over time Hugs, Stacy
You are right, marking it with a pencil would of been safer and easier. I am glad you enjoyed it. Your hardware store probably will cut it for you :) Hugs, Stacy
Ive made more than a few tools instead of paying retail!!! 3/8 inch pipe daubers fit onto fingertips and can be stored in those boxes you can buy on Amazon for $8.00. They hold 40 daubers. Wanna know how I store DIES???
Hi Kristy,
Thanks for the comments. Great tip with the markers

I actually like the look better than what's on the market. Now, me personally, I would pretty them up a bit but yours still rock!!

Thanks Stacy! I'm going to try this. I think I will just buy some adhesive address labels to label them though. I'm a little lazy.
Great idea thanks so much for sharing!

How well do the sponges hold up? I tried some and mine crumbled into pieces after one or two uses. Which makeup sponge did you use?

Maravillosoooo. Esas cosa son carisima$. Gracias mil
Hi Cynthia,
I love making things that are inexpensive that can be used for crafting. I am very thrifty
Hugs, Stacy
Any tips on making these without ripping/tearing the sponge?
Hi Erin,
I have not had an issue with them tearing or ripping. Are you referring to getting them into the pvc pipe or afterward? If after, I think they just break down over time
Hugs, Stacy
yes, getting them in the surface of the "domed" sponge has a little tearing or ripping i guess you can say
Erin S.
I would try maybe adding a little cornstarch or baby powder in the pipe, that may help prevent it from tearing or ripping
Hugs, Stacy
I will try that! Thank you :)
Thanks for sharing.
fantstic! very smart lady
Thanks so much Barb

I'm not really behind the times but it only took me 7 years to catch up with this. LOL
You are right, marking it with a pencil would of been safer and easier. I am glad you enjoyed it. Your hardware store probably will cut it for you :)
Hugs, Stacy
thanks for sharing this I love my sponge daubers but never seam to have enough
Coffee is a good thing :)
Hugs, Stacy
You could just roll a small strip of cardboard around your finger 2 or 3 times. Cheaper, quicker and easier.
Great idea thank you
great idea, don't have a man around my house nor the cutters..perhaps i need to ask my son in law.hmmmmmmm
Thank you so much this is a great idea!!!
Nola,
You are very welcome. Happy you liked it

Genius!!
Hi Judy,
I can't take credit for this idea, I did see it on pinterest. (I am so addicted) LOL
Hugs, Stacy
I do the same thing but instead of pipe I use the top of my tube of Pritt stick or other stick glue
+Nana Marie
Hi,
That is such a good idea about the glue stick, love that
Hugs, Stacy
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I LIKE!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!
Hiya Darlin,
You can always have the men at the store cut the pipe for you. (about 1.5 inches) times the number you need.
Hugs, Stacy
CLEVER!
What is the sponge name ???
Hi Kyle
I was using a triangle makeup sponge
Hugs Stacy
LOVE THIS!!
Thank you so much

if you add a small square of panty hose nylon, it goes thru easier AND gives a smoother result with ink
