Thank you for posting this. I was able to fix mine. In my case I had to sand down the circumference of the center knob. It was too tight and was kind of stuck. After sanding it, the knob moved freely and Voila! My dear toaster is working like a charm.
    Thanks again.

The flames really added a certain quality to this video!
This is the type of repairs we need to have more of in the western world. Growing up I was taught that you repair using genuine parts, that is nonsense I now realise. Any repair will do. Switches are switches and if they will carry the current then they are ok. Looks come next to function and dollars stay in your pocket! I got a neat little oven like this out of a dumpster a few years ago, size of a microwave, top and bottom elements and no fan, but it has a rotisserie spit motor across the centre. But the spit needle is missing. I don't really want to spit roast anything so it just works as a regular oven. Good Job Pete.

Yeah! if the switch is defective, replacing with the same switch will have the same problem

Well at least you opened it up instead of cutting the case like I had seen on other videos....
I have a TAO-60 with mechanical function switches that I have repaired multiple times, and it was always the same portion of the switch that failed that supplied power in out to the timers. The repairs always worked for about a month or two only to fail again so sort of like you I did a little bit of rewiring. that left "all" the functions working. My repair consisted of removing the failed switch contact plate because the switch was grinding and would not turn smoothly. Once the damaged (melted) contact plate of the switch was removed (4 tabs hold the contact plate in the switch housing removed with a sharp knife) I cleaned out the I removed all lose pieces inside the housing plus indexing ball with its spring only on the failed side of the switch leave the other contact plate alone. Then I connected the 3 wires (the brown - power in - and the 2 white, power for the timers) together then labeled the toast timer "toast only!". Which solved the failed function switch problem and left all the functions in working order and because I removed the failed timer contacts the function dial turns smoothly. You just have to remember the toast timer is only used for toast otherwise you will melt the toast timer. I have been running my TAO-60 this way for over a year and a half with no problems at all. It seems there is a design flaw in that portion of the function switch causing the contacts to overheat and melt the contact plate allowing the contacts to fall out and begin to jam the function dial... At 6 months and 1 year after this repair I opened the case to verify nothing else is showing signs of melting or overheating and all is perfect.

How do you get the cover off?

it's *fascinating* to me that this exact switch on this exact make/model of toaster oven seems to fail so often.
We owned one and that switch failed. I went and found a replacement, and was able to do so because so many other folks have had that same switch fail on that same toaster and written about it on their blogs or whatever.

By any chance did you get a part number for the fan? Ours buzzes like crazy until it gets good and warm, wondering if I should replace it but can't find a parts diagram anywhere.

I dropped something on my Cuisinart toaster oven. Power lights dont come on. Looking at this maybe a wire came loose? Anyway, it was becoming less responsive to dial directions. 4 and a half years old.
