    Thank you Kathryn for your video and company. No rulers,complicated maths ,rotary cutters or any of the other paraphernalia I associate with quilting. Talk about myth busting. I really liked the way you stitched your log cabin block. I never really liked log cabin when I was quilting years ago, so I never actually made one. But this looks so lovely. I think the colours and the raw edges and the 'looseness' of style is really appealing to me. I think I have to make some! Thanks Kathryn ..

    Hello Kathryn, greetings from Amelia in Tasmania (Australia). My first experience of sewing a quilt was with the log cabin design. I purchased all brand new fabric, carefully measured and cut every individual log, and proceeded to machine sew the pieces together. Numbers, straight lines and an obsession with precision, stripped my project of fun. Although I felt proud to have finished, the project was lifeless. My sewing was neat and uniform, and stripped of any personality...that was 30 years ago and I've never sewn another quilt, not even wanted to. I have learnt now that it is ok to break/question the rules and that imbues projects with my personality. An 'imperfect', organic approach to creating, is quite perfect and satisfying. And that's what I'd tell my younger self.
    Thank you for sharing Kathryn.

    I just love having you in my room stitching and chatting. I was so looking forward to this video. I did not watch any how to do log cabin videos either cuz I knew you would softly and patiently show us how it is done. I'm in love with this. Slow deliberate stitching and creating something. I just stuck a couple of old pillowcases in my projects bag so I'm gonna start this tomorrow. I'll be watching this more than once! I stitched half a dozen 6 inch blocks of fall things, acorns sunflowers pumpkins and such for a fall table runner and having blocks of these between and around will be stunning. You have such a gift of inspiration! I got in a slump about doing any more in that and it's just another half finished project and I've just been quilting hearts to stay occupied. Now I can't wait to start on this! Hugs big big hugs!

    A really enjoyable video. Thank you. I’ve watched a number of quilt videos with all the rotary cutters, special rulers, machines to do the actual sewing etc. The results are lovey. But, frankly, both daunting and unaffordable just on a “trial” basis. Watching something being created, which is equally as beautiful as the “professional” ones without the implied rules inspires and builds confidence to just have a bit of a go and see what happens. I am now looking forward to seeing the finished piece and watching it build over the coming weeks.

    I find if a watch the video once and just take it in and then go back a second time to do the item it helps. And I don’t like following directions so I rather like there is no precision here 😂. No right or wrong way really so this suits my style ❤.

    Mesmerizing...... every second of every video you have shared with us. I am addicted to slow stitching. I'm in my 70s and have always had friends and relatives who were "traditional quilters" with all of the measuring and rules and perfect seams and it did not appeal to me. I always loved and admired the finished quilts, but had no interest in all of that measuring, precision and rules. Slow stitch is my thing. With this wonderful video, I can now look forward to wonky, organic, intuitive log cabin blocks as part of my slow stitching journey. Thank you.... as always. Love your videos. I had never heard of Osnaburg cotton. I have been using a wonderful lightweight 100% cotton muslin that I found on U.S. Amazon. It is like a lightweight sheet and it sews beautifully. And it is available in both natural color and bleached. In order to do these log cabin blocks, I need to get some lighter color fabrics. Most of my limited stash is darker colors... particularly blue/green batik cottons which I love. I need to expand my stash to include lighter colors for log cabin blocks. I shall go rummage in local thrift shops.........

      Thank you 😊 you could have a look at the back of your cloth, some might be lighter. The batiks will obviously be the same both sides. 😉❤️

    I can't tell you how much I needed this today! I've started trying making log cabin blocks from the intro video because I was impatient but that only gave me frustrations because I was getting overwhelmed at perfect rotary trimmed strips and such. Ugh. I want to just stitch and not focus on the silly measuring. I had to rewind and listen to the part about your partner liking straight edges. I fear my style of quilt will not be his. But oh well. I'm sure he will love the end result of my "art" because he always does. Question-would a light weight flannel be the wrong kind of foundation? I want a quilt for warmth and you don't mention wadding/batting in the building of the blocks. What am I missing here? I'm going to start making strips but I'm torn between using old cloth or new to me cloth that I got from a thrift store, unused brand new quilting cottons. Hmm...choices! Love this tutorial series. Thanks!!!

      @k3n.clothtales  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hello Michelle, yes you could use flannel as long as it's nice to stitch through, bearing in mind the layers. I will talk more about wadding in next week's episode about joining the blocks, though I know you are champing at the bit to get started. 😂 I would say, make a few blocks with your flannel and see how it goes, if you make say four at 6" square, they could become a little cushion, but view them as practice. 😁❤️

    I have a wonderful silky soft pillowcase that's been Eco died or perhaps just had light brown leaves on it. It's one of those pieces you just cannot bear to use or cut up. So last night I boiled a pot of coffee and went out on the porch as and gathered leaves and added the juice off a jar of black olives and let a white pillowcase soak all night. It's slightly off white but not nearly what i wanted . what did I do wrong? 40:34

    • @k3n.clothtales
      @k3n.clothtales  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The process of ecoprinting is more complex than that I am afraid. I am guessing the olives were in brine which won't have much if any effect and leaves need to be bundled and processed with heat. I am sorry, it's far too much to explain in a comment. You could maybe have a go at tea and rust dyeing for starters, there is a two part tutorial on my channel. ❤️
