An Italian lady made me some recently and she just called them pizzas, it's the best thing I've ever tasted. It's like eating donuts and pizza at the same time
Oh my knees just got weak! I used to get these every time the flea market came to Belmont racetrack in the winter time. There would be a truck with a bunch of ladies making them in the back of the truck and the whole back of the truck was a vat of oil and all the calzones would be fried in there. The only difference is they would put a slice of ham in them. Thank you guys for the bringing up that memory.
Good job guys! To be expected from Brooklyn boys. I love a good fried calzone. Fried duck has replaced the fried calzone here on 18Avenue. Im cranking out a Sicilian pie and some of your fried calzones tonight. Brooklyn 4 ever!
I grew up eating fried calzone from The house of Pizza and Calzone on Union street, Brooklyn, NY. many years ago. If I could only get one here in South Carolina...Your video is amazing.😋😋
I also grew up on them from that same location. Between Columbia and Hicks. Still go there till this day. Recipe definitely not the Same but it’s the only place I know to get them. Thanks this video is great.
Since I retired and moved away for NYC I haven’t had a good calzone. So, Why not make them myself. A little bit of work, but man are they worth it. Thanks for the video help in making them.
I remember buying them at our local pizzeria in Brooklyn for 35 cents . I know I'm dating myself. 😆 If I may suggest what I do is drain the ricotta through either cheese cloth or let is sit in a strainer for awhile because of the water content. I do this especially when I make manicotti , ravioli , or baked ziti and lasagna. 😊 love you guys ❤️
New sub. Jersey City Italian. Haven't had a Fried Calzone in way too many years, and the baked ones locally (Arizona) are meh. Old man cooking for one, prefer to make a batch, how do these freeze? PS Ham and Spinach for me. Grazia mille!

Glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for letting us know!
I just pulled one out of the deep fryer. Smells great and I'm really looking forward to biting into it--once it cools off a bit, of course. Mangia!
Enjoy!!!
great video they look delicious , how long did you cook them for at 400
These were afraid between 325 and 350° oil temperature. You can bake them at 450° for about 10 or 15 minutes or until their golden brown.
a twist on the plain baked calzone
Excellent video! Is canola oil what you prefer? Or can you use olive oil?
Canola or vegetable oil for deep frying. Olive oil is great for pan frying.
Thank you
In South Jersey these are called Panzarotti ! You guys always make the good stuff!

Welcome to our family! I don’t think frozen calzones would fare well once defrosted.
Love Cal zones Happy 4th
Thanks! You as well!
Can these be frozen before frying if I need to make them in advance?
Honestly, I’ve never had used them while they were frozen.
I don't think you can freeze ricotta cheese
Fried is the only way to go! Baked is not the same flavor.
Love fried!
Panzerotto
I would strain ricotta overnight with salt for this recipe.
We’ll need to try that. Thanks for the tip!
You guys wanna take it up a notch toss that shit like a garlic knot and eat it
