Part One of Mary Killen's amusing online Guide to Modern Manners. In it, Mary Killen, agony aunt at the Spectator and Gogglebox star, gives you handy tips on party etiquette.
Absolutely fascinating! I didn't know Mary did 'talks' so it was a great surprise to find this, though she doesn't look truly relaxed. Mary moves in circles I clearly don't but I do find social situations difficult as I'm chronically shy, so this was actually both interesting and helpful. Thank you very much Mary.
Absolutely fabulous Mary. Thank you. Hope you and your family are well and safe. I'd love to have a drink ie tea with you and Giles. I love your knowledge. X
Mary I watch you and Giles on gogglebox and I really enjoy your exchanges. So it's great to see you on here too and so interesting to hear what you have to say. Please keep these informative funny vids coming. I hope you and Giles have a wonderful Christmas. ^j^
@@MimiYouyu What are you complaining about? 2eleven48 never said anything about Mary not having good manners and so on. So why you've brought all that up, is bewildering.
Any tips on politely refusing an invitation to the kind of "parties" you go to, Nutty? They sound as though they'd be quite excruciating to begin with and then descend into a scene from a Pasolini film.
I started to nod off about 3 and a half minutes into that. No offence, it's just a bit hard to get enthusiastic or stay interested in a speech, when someone is rather flat and droning on. Her video posted up by 5x15, about her book on the Queen and happiness, seems as if she is much more upbeat. As opposed to this video.
Gendered and deeply prejudice toward the younger generation. A pinch of salt rather than pearls of wisdom. As a researcher - and millennial (sorry not sorry), do your research if you actively want to improve your social experience in a party setting. Meaningful relationships sometimes need space for serendipity and unlikely alliance.... all the things that you will probably be less likely to capture if you believe that the older generation are somewhat more authentic and invested socially than those born after the 60s.... or 50s.
@@rah62 That's a load of crap. I know many young people who are 100% authentic, what you see is what you get. They don't bung on anything, to please anyone. And I know many older people who are so damn fake and non-genuine, it's sickening. Age has nothing to do with the way someone chooses to behave. And if one chooses to live their life believing that they are superior to anyone else, simply because of their age, then that is on them. Plus I feel sorry for such people who think that way, as they would be missing out on so much in their lives.
@@rah62 Well, if that's the most intelligent response you could manage to scrounge up in regards to having a mature discussion on the topic, I guess we know who is truly embarrassing themselves here, dear. Not to mention, who is proving my point, precisely. That age does not make one any more authentic, any more wiser or anything else. Especially when one has to like their own comments. 🤣🤣🤣
I love Giles and Mary, reminds me of my parents so much. Completely, totally, utterly insane ... and hilarious ❤
You speak so beautifully Mary and very are interesting. Thankyou. Didn't know you did this sort of thing. X
This is brilliant! She should do more videos like this
I wish the other parts were available on-line. Mary is spot-on in her assessments.
I must be a rare species. I have nowhere near 150 "friends".
Mary's face is so sweet. Her fine description of the parties has created a true advantage of Lockdown 🍸

Awww mary..... she is adorable!!!
Comedy gold - love it 🤣
Fascinating to watch, but utterly dotty, bless her.
Yes I suppose to some , it seems eccentric to have good manners and etiquette, and grace. Thankfully not everyone agrees with that view.

I doubt you'd be invited Lew.
I want to know what that 'secret' she says she has and would never tell is...
cupboard / phil lynott / nutty / do the math

She said that wasn't it, though.
'Hello Nutty!'
this made me chuckle, Nutty!
Not going to happen in the current climate, and no-one is on the same wavelength as me

Show a lack of confidence
Mary, what happened to your false lashes, they are hanging off my love. Great video.
You want people to feel sorry for you.this to me shows a lack of confidence

The older the person, the *vastly* more authentic they are. Mary is absolutely spot on.

Is this woman a dry, verging on parched, stand up comedian?
She's not being serious, if that's what you're asking. She's great.
