I am from Germany and what i've noticed is that in America you change your oil pretty often. We usually change our oils on cars younger than 1985 for every 9,000 up to 18,000 miles or once a year. I've heard of 3 months or 3,000 miles to your mentioned 7,000 miles. But our oil looks fine all the time and my first car runs for 150,000 miles now, without any issues about the engine.
Finally got my oil changed kinda hesitant to do it at first but because of this helpful vid of yours got it all nice and easy thank you #Tool Dude Tony
I'm a 60 year old female. You made that so simple, if I could get on my back like that on the ground, I'd try it myself. Thank you. Maybe I can show this to some guy and get him to do it for me. :)
I highly recommend that when dealing with nuts and bolts- use spanners og sockets instead of wrenches and adjustable tools. It's easy and prevents you from "rounding" off your bolts :-)
Hey Jajziel, finding and repairing oil leaks is beyond what most people can do in their driveways. Chances are that a seal is bad. I'd leave this one for the pros who have the experience and tool necessary to do the job. Sorry, I couldn't show you how.
@MarstaJNZ I've tried it a few times and I'm just not in favor of adding something to your engine that removes oil. You're probably not going to get all of it out. So, what's it doing in there with the fresh oil? I don't know. I find it's effective to warm up the car somewhat before draining it. I've been doing this for years and normally total or sell the car before having any engine issues caused the oil or sludge. I suggest that you save your money on that kind of stuff. Thanks.
It's worth buying jack stands to make sure you don't get your head smashed in by 2000 LBs of bouncing metal. Jack and stands need to support the frame, not just any part of the car. A pair of ramps (I just bought a pair for $45 at Auto Zone, rated for 8 tons) is even safer if you make sure your parking brake is on.
It will depend on the vehicle. I always go for the frame. That would typically look like a long boxed and heavy piece of metal running the length of the car under the body. I will never go under a car without jack stands under some major support component like the frame or the front controlling arms -- Something very structural. Check your owner's manual and take a good look under your car before doing this. If you're still not sure, ask for help. Be safe. :)
good video, but check that the old rubber ring has come out with the filter before you put the new filter in or it will leak. also i would put a new gasket ring on the sump plug when replacing that.
Although oil change can definitely be changed on your own, please be aware that oil changes on most cars are not this quick and simple and can be much more complicated. Especially if you own a foreign car. Most American cars are alot more easier to maintaince own your own.
im a 13 year old and really interested in becoming a mechanic so i want to learn my dad who is 53 used to do it when he was young and my big bro 34 knows somethings to and i feel left out and its also a good choice for a job thanks for info
You forgot to mention to warm the engine up to the operating temperature, by driving the car, before drain the oil out. Unscrew the oil cap, so the oil will drain out faster from the oil pan. Refill the engine with new oil with the quantity needed, turn the engine and let it run for few minutes. Turn it off and wait for the oil going back to the oil pan, from 3 to 5 minutes, and then you can check the level with the dipstick. Also, do not drain the oil with the car on the ramps or jack-stands. The vehicle has to be in flat position, with all the wheels on the ground or on 4 ramps or jack-stands.
hey tony i need some help, my mom got an oil change on her 09 vw buggie at brakemasters yesterday and all was fine until about an hour ago when i walked outside there was a large puddle of oil underneath, checked the dip stick and looked empty I'm suspecting that the oil filter or the drain plug might be loose but that's all that i could put together since I'm inexperienced what would you say about this.the top of the engine is completely clean.I'm assuming brakemasters will cover their fault
myself i would of used engine flush first, and why didnt you let the car down for the remaining oil to trickle out of the sump! i would of waiting till the last drop of oil came out before putting the new oil in! but thanks for the vid,
Sorry, I didn't see this for a month. Yes, they should cover it, but don't drive it without oil in it. That would burn up the engine. I've owned 9 old bugs and 1 bus when I was younger and love how they drive.
and remeber to wear gloves when draining the old oil, it is bad for your skin and could lead to cancer, and you should use some of the new oil to put on the filter gasket and fill the oil filter a bit with oil to start with
I am actually very shocked by the quality of this video, no nonsense, very informative, you helped out very much! Dude! Good job!

i dont know what i expected, i just got my first car and well this helped me out a lot, thanks
Great video. Great sound and video quality. I will be sending people here to learn how to change oil.
Cheers tony, good refresher course for those like me who haven't done this since the last blue moon.
Short, sweet, and to the point! Good instructional video and yes it did look cool seeing the oil fill the engine.
My dad is a motor mechanic I don't need to learn anything from TH-cam but I'm still watching these vids :p
Thanks alot just got my license saved alot of money bc if u dont change the oil filter and u just change the oil u r wasting ur money thx again
That was a very informative and greatly filmed video thanks for the help. You should post more vehicle service videos.
Thanks. I give props for doing it with one hand.
Wow, amazing. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try it tonight.

Thanks, Tony! Very informative video. Helps alot.
Even as a girl... I find this rather awesome and this would save a lot of time and money instead of going to the mechanic and have my oil changed.
Thank you so much! This was very helpful, informative and simple!
Super bro. I am going to take a crack at it for the first time!

I like that oil filter wrench, where did you get it at ?
Where do you put the jack to make sure that the car won't fall on your head when you're changing the oil? Very informative video. Thanks.
It was a must-see video, thanks for the help! :)
Great video! Learned a lot! Thanks!
Very helpful video. If I don't have jack stands, is just using a jack really dangerous?

I love the funnel ... great video

thanks for the upload, very helpful
well if u have an old car like that all u need is a basic fram filter its not expensive and it works
really nice video man, helpful :)
good video, but check that the old rubber ring has come out with the filter before you put the new filter in or it will leak.

HI Andrew. Oil is from $17 to $28 per 5 quart bottle and filters are from $5 to $10. Thanks

I am an upcoming mechanic and i thank you for this video . but what is the average price of new oil and filters?
im a 13 year old and really interested in becoming a mechanic so i want to learn my dad who is 53 used to do it when he was young and my big bro 34 knows somethings to and i feel left out and its also a good choice for a job thanks for info
Thank you very much. Very helpful
This is really helpful. Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!
Great video. Thank you for sharing:)
I love a girl who will change the oil in her car.
Nice Tut..
But what about flushing the motor first with something before putting new oil? Whats your view on this?
I liked your video man. Thanks for the info :D

What about changing your exhaust? You should do that. Specially on a 95 cavalier lol
cars need oil change every 6 to 10 000 miles.
unless your car is made back in 1949 then its 3000 miles
is all oil filter fits all car or every company has its specification?
+richard Acol No, there should be a manual at the place where you buy the filter. Or you could check your owners manual.
Thanks brother
thank you sir
