      Good riddance! was looking for an e-mount comment. Considering this vs the Laowa 15mm T2.1 which is about the same price. Even though Irix with the higher T-stop of T2.6, it has a longer focus throw and a bigger filter diameter which I'm able to attach on the tilta matte box too easily. On the other hand, Laowa is a 77mm filter thread. Hmm great review again thanks!

    Hey Michael, great review! I was wondering which speedbooster you referred to at around 4:55. Is it the metabones adapter? I have the BMPCC 4k and want to get as close to full frame with the ef version of the lens using the metabones 0.64 booster, but there are 2 versions, the T XL 0.64 and the T CINE 0.64 XL. Do you have any idea which would be the better option for this lens? Not a lot of info online since these are a new line.

    I'm confused; at 2:11 when you were discussing correcting lens distortion, you artificially created a pincushion distortion that appears much, much stronger than the lens' natural barrel distortion-- was that intentional? Was that just Davinci resolve doing a bad job at analyzing the lens distortion?

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The actual clip was indeed done manually using the slider on the lens distortion analyzer in resolve. I guess I made it too strong lol my apologies. The auto analyze didn’t change it as dramatically as I wanted it to.

    Hey bro, how are you? I've been following your channel since you bought your first Irix. I have a 15mm and a 45mm too and I have a question about your step down. On the Irix website they comment that the filter thread of the lens is 86m x 1mm, that's why I bought the nd with that specific size. I remembered your video and came back here to see which brand you were using and yours is from Fotodiox and it works perfectly right? On the amazon website it says it is 86mm x 0.75mm and I am afraid to buy it and not screw it on my lens, can you answer that question?

    Because of your review I've just ordered one!
    Question: Do you have a good recommendation of ND filters for this lens?
    I see that in this video you use a dream FX filter. However on the Dream FX website I can't find a ND filter with a 85mm thread?

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The dreamFX filter I have is the rectangular version that fits in a matte box not directly on the lens. However for my other NDs and filters most are 82mm then I use a 82-85mm step up ring. They are crazy cheap and work so easily 👍🏼enjoy the lens!

    Amazing review I have a 6k along side a tokina 11-16mm and a takumar 50mm 1.4... my question is for music videos and short film should I start with getting a 15mm Irix that you just reviewed perfectly or the 45mm cine Irix to start with I’m wanting to get into cine lens. My questions comes as which lens do you believe is used more for music videos and short film. and how would this balance on the wee bill S ?according to weight max load the black magic and these lens make the cut ... I will get the set in the long run once I make money off projects.. As a film maker/ content creator which one is most used a 15mm or 45mm if anyone would do the honors of responding to this question please do;)

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for your comment! Both lenses are great and it’s impossible to say which one specially to go for since one isn’t better than the other it’s just about what projects your do since every film is different. If I had to recommend something I’d say maybe the 15mm just because music videos are generally shot with wider lenses. That being said idk how well a pocket 6K and any Irix lens would do on the Weebill S. Yes technically the weight of a bare 6K and Irix lens may fall under the 4.5lbs payload limit but since the lens is heavier you’ll need weight in the back to balance it and i just think the rig won’t operate well on that gimbal. Honestly the only gimbal I’ve gotten this setup to work on is the Zhiyun Crane 3s. Maaaaybe the Ronin S would work too not sure. Hope that helps 👍🏼

    Michael, I have a few questions. But first...great video! OK, 1) Have you experienced anything like this post talks about when using the IRIX lenses and the BMPCC 6K forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=105298 2) I am a lens idiot, mostly because I am coming from the post side of the business.. Tell me why I should buy the IRIX 15 mm lens . 45 mm lens instead of the Sigma Art Series 18-35 and 50-100 setup I am currently planning on for dual BMPCC 6K setups I am getting. I am concerned about being too limited for interview type shots.

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey!
      1: That post is talking about the photography verison of the Irix 15mm as the Cine lens featured in this video didnt exist back in January when the post was created. A prime cine lens has no electrical connectors since focus and aperture are manual with the rings. So no you would have any issues like that.
      2: Either choice wouldnt be a bad one. Sigmas are very nice lenses still. In my opinion its convenience vs quality thing. Zoom lenses like you said give you range and offer flexibility where as primes it takes more work to move framing and composition if you had to. I actually just borrowed the Sigma 50-100 and although its very sharp and nice quality, it has the worst focus breathing I have ever seen (i posted a video on twitter showing it compared to the IRIX). You like many may not care about that. Also like i said a true cine lens is full manual control so no auto focus of course. To wrap this up it comes down to preference. The small details like low distortion, little to no CA (Chromatic Aberration) Low focus breathing, focus gears, the whole line has similar dimensions and weight to make lens swaps super fast. I will always prefer a cine lens over a photography lens. But you may not and thats totally fine. I have so many friends who are run and gun and need to work fast so zoom lenses like the Sigma Art are perfect for that. Hope that helps!

    • @initialfocus

      If you have the time/budget I’d suggest renting one of each type lens. Not sure if anywhere has IRIX rentals but you could rent a Sigma Art for like $50 and a sigma Cine would be the same sort of comparable to the IRIX that way you can play around with the workflow of a Cine lens vs a zoom photography lens
