Great video. I have sweet potatoes rooting in water because my cousin grows them like a house plant. They are so beautiful. I will let her know she can eat them. Just wanted to say while I was recuperating after surgery to remove cancer all I could eat was sweet potatoes. They had them washed and wrapped in plastic in the market and you could microwave them. I could barely stand up and I couldn’t keep anything else in my stomach for a few weeks. They got me through and my doctor said they had all the nutrients I needed. I just moved to 9a/9b and I am going to plant some now that it’s not as hot. Thanks so much for sharing.

I harvested some of my sweet potatoes today and took the leaves and had them for dinner. You’re right they taste like spinach. They are so easy to grow and they will be my go to. I will now use them in my smoothies as well.

great idea!! and when you compare the cost to spinach - SP leaf in a smoothie makes so much more sense.

Just discovered you. What a beautiful garden. Mine is way smaller and it would break my heart to have to tear it up before harvest and move. I am 76 and just increase my harvest each year. I do try to keep it simple. But I let it get out of control this year. Greenbeans everywhere. But that is God's bounty. I am able to share.

I planted sweet potatoes for the first time this year. I knew nothing about the 70 to 80 days. I also didn’t know you had to trim them. In any case I hope I have something because I planted my potatoes the end of May. I went to Alaska for 3 weeks in August and they were out in my yard and up my fence. I still haven’t harvested them yet. I will go out tomorrow to see what I have. I don’t care for the leaves, but I have friends who eat them. Anyway thanks for the tip. Also, I do compose so maybe I have something under the ground. It sure does look like you are doing a lot more than composting. You must live in a warmer climate. I have never seen anything like what you have in Pennsylvania not even among the Amish who are great farmers.

Sweet potato like it warm! When it’s too warm for spinach... sweet potatoes love it.
Currently we are having a warm fall. 29 C or 84 F. I’ll harvest it when the full moon gets close- cooler nights.

Good afternoon from England. Where I live is a cooler climate than yours I think but I have grown a sweet potato plant for the first time this year. I saw a plant in a local garden centre in May and thought I would give it a try. My one plant was grown in a 30 litre container filled with a mixture of sieved garden soil and my own home made compost with some added organic fertiliser. I can’t remember how long it has been growing but the leaves had started to die off so I harvested the plant this week and as a first timer I am pleased with the results. The tubers are not quite as big as yours and I will certainly try again next growing season. Thanks for the tip about the vines rooting where they touch the soil, I will look out for that in future. Finally, I am pleased you called soil, “soil” and not dirt as so many Americans do as I think it is a derogatory word to describe our most basic resource. Excellent channel!

I'm growing sweet potatoes for the first time this year and I just took the first peek at the roots yesterday. Was very happy to see at least two potatoes in there about a hand and a half long and as big around as my fist. Didn't dig around too much because I don't want to disturb them, but now I'm excited. Just waiting a couple more weeks to harvest so they can get as big as possible before curing for thanksgiving.
