We are getting ready to harvest up here in Oregon in a week or two, and if ours are half as big as yours I'll be happy! 😂 We planted in grow bags about mid May, but had to wait till end of June to put slips in ground. We had quite a cold start to our growing season. But a test dig a few mornings ago showed some decent potaties, so I'm hopeful for a good harvest!

@@ThatBritishHomestead sorry to hear that friend we amend the beds heavy with organic matter that helps but sweet potatoes like hot temperatures we are in 6b they would grow better in a warmer climate and I should have watered them more this year with our terrible drought but that's ok we still got some 👍

Late seeing this one as been real busy here. Pulled ours out yesterday 10/14 and got 43 lbs. I asked a question on another video but I see that one you pulled out on this all grown together is what I think our big one did but no daylight thru the middle. Looks like a big brain at just over 9 lbs.
@@2olvets443 I'm not sure on these growing together like this last year they didn't do this , my mistakes this year was not watering enough because of the severe drought we had and not fertilizing after planting like I did the year before we suffered with smaller potatoes and alot less yield so this is a good humbling lesson for me lol 👍
That's a lot of big sweet potatoes, what a blessing, I didn't get half of that, but it is my first year, I only had 12 plants, if the Lord's will, I will get 20 slips next year🎉😊

Impressed! What is the makeup of your soil? My hard red clay is hard to grow sweet potatoes. I tried this year and had some success, nothing to brag about.

When did you start planting yours and how long do you wait until you harvest your potatoes how many times do you feed your plants during growing season
@@teresaedwards9984 we plant the slips in middle of May or beginning of June and alway harvest the first week of October we fertilize when the plants show signs of yellowing and I really should have watered more this year with our severe drought last year's harvest video from this same spot was truly amazing you should check it out it's in our sweet potato playlist it's the Amazing sweet potato harvest October 2023 it's alot better harvest video 👍
I would say you had a good harvest! Don’t know which way that wall is facing, but am guessing that part of the reason the potatoes are doing so well is because they are somewhat protected there against the wall.
@@BeFree-BeFrugal with our freezing temperatures here in the winter they die but if your in a zone with warm winters I'm sure they would sprout in the spring and grow but you only get a sweet potato from a slip not a sweet potato but you could cut the slip off and use that slip to grow a sweet potato thanks for watching 👍
It could be much worse compared to me. I'm dealing with my next-door neighbor's dog because it is digging up my sweet potatoes in my fenced-in yard. However, I am tired of filling in all of those holes and replanting my vegetables that the dog torn up. I am hoping to get 10 pounds of sweet potatoes if lucky. Yes, I changed my planting locations several times. This is getting really old. This dog done dug up my edger for my yard and drag it into his yard. No, this is not a puppy but a grown dog. I can't seriously take it anymore. Yes, I tried talking to the neighbors about their dog, but nothing seemed to work. I guess animal control is my last stop. This year has been my worst for my garden. I don't think that the dog was ever trained. 😕 Sad but true
@@jacquelinedarby1076 sorry to hear that but I do have a suggestion that really works I know this because I'm doing it for my next door neighbors husky , get on Amazon and check out Patriot electric fence energizer or go to Patriotglobal.com this is a electric fence energizer made to keep deer and dogs and cats out of your garden you get the control box that plugs into a outside outlet then you run the wires around the area or along the inside of your fence and then when he touches the wire it gives a shock that he will not like and this will stop him from digging along the bottom of your fence you can also watch the TH-cam video's of this energizer working on deer and other animals and it's very reasonably priced . We got the electric fence energizer and the aluminum wire and the plastic insulators for around $ 50 dollars And It Works check it out friend watch the video's and my neighbors big husky won't go near our bushes any longer lol 👍
Update on my neighbors dog: Animal control came and got the dog because it brutally killed her mate. This is a sad situation 😞. Anyway, does anyone know why sweet potatoes leave turns yellow? Last week, I had 2 pots of sweet potatoes that were dark green, and now I only have 1pot that is continuing on with the dark green color; however, the other pot started turning yellow. I planted them in May of 2024, and I normally take them out of the pots in November. This is the first time that I have ever seen this. Should I wait a while before taking the sweet potatoes with the yellow leaves out of the pot, or could this a mineral issue or rodents concerns?

you sir know what ur doing 4 sure and got some excellent soil wouldn't change a thing except for the use of chicken wire deep down under soil and over top will keep out pest like rats n mice n bird etc.....
@@TheRealBWA you can harvest them in 120 days but we always let ours go till the first week in October to get the largest sweet potatoes but grocery stores and super markets prefer smaller size sweet potatoes for resale value 👍

Sweet potatoes are pretty heavy feeders. So if you are not amending that soil, each successive year the crop will be smaller and smaller.
I would say you had a good harvest!
