Can you get a SnowHorse? It's maybe too rare for you to get ahold of.. You teased it in a video awhile ago and I haven't ever heard anything about it being mentioned since then.. Is it really a guitar that is going to be produced?
Great review Austin, glad the new space is starting to come together. The must be BB Pro pickups as Busrtsbucker pickups are only ingle conductor and cannot be split. Still sounds pretty good even without Tone Pots!
My wife bought this for me yesterday and I have to say as a charvel, Jackson, ESP and Gibson man, this guitar is excellent, $700 bucks out the door brand new! What a deal guys. The neck profile is perfect for me, this guitar is a tone monster and my hats off to the builders over seas. I will purchase a genuine Gibson explorer case to keep her safe, this guitar is to die for in my opinion.
I have all 3 Brendan Small Epiphones also… the Thunderhorse, Snow Falcon and now the Ghosthorse. The quality of each instrument is outstanding. Austin… glad you made it a priority to quickly document the Ghosthorse after it was released. Good job!
Late reply but how do you feel about the differences between the Ghosthorse and Thunderhorse? Cause I'm thinking about getting just one of those two plus the Snow Falcon-
Dont forget, a floyd is not just a whammy arm to agressively yank on, but it also keeps your guitar in tune, whatever you do with it, especially with the locking nut. Hard to beat a decked floyd and, in my case, a well lubricated nut.
24 frets doesnt make the neck longer, so it doesnt stick out further, it moves the neck pickup closer to the bridge and the 2 extra frets are added there, which does changes the sound of the neck pickup.
Great Guitar! I really wish all electric guitars made by Gibson, Fender whoever would make all of their guitars with access heels. They’re easier to play what’s the downside?
The only guitar/amp combo that I ever use a tone pot on is the Tele and the Blues Jr. amp. It wouldn't be possible to play the thing without a tone pot.
I was surprised by the versatility of the tonal offerings in this guitar...without a tone knob. If it is possible for a cold metal guitar to sound warm...seems this is it. Makes me wonder what the glam metal rockers of my era would have sounded like with an axe like this. Great review! Nice to see you back up running reviews again.
My World Music Brian May signature is absolutely perfect.......amazing quality. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul built by Samick in 1994......killer guitar as well.
The manufacture of older Epiphones were contracted out to Asian manufacturers but these days Epiphone make all their guitars (aside from the USA made guitars that Gibson make) at their factory in China. Gibson actually owns the factory that makes today's Epiphones.
Happy to compare this to my Prophesy Extura for anyone who's looking at both. 24 fret access is completely comfortable. I find the fishmans to be solid performers but a tad less organic than a Gibson Burstbucker in their classic mode. Its a skinnier neck more like an Ibanez and I tend to like my 60's slim tapers wider like I have on my Firebird. So this is more of the a big man's guitar and the Extura fits smaller people. Trogly thinks this feels long because he's not used to Explorer bodies. They're big and they sit a little forward naturally so they pair better with long limbed players.
So I got one of these after watching the review, always wanted an explorer and the specs and price to take the gamble and after setting it up properly I’m happy as can be with it
I'm a proud Dethklok and Galaticon fan and I ve been saying that Brandon Smalls is severely underated 🤘🏿!!It's great ti see this guitar here. Thanks Trogly! Maybe the world will catch on.Getcha Pull-Cheers ☕☕
So hyped he did a review for his one. I’ve had my Ghosthorse for awhile. Great guitar and love how thorough the reviews are. Learned more about my own guitar!
I don't know if having Dave Mustine in the Gibson line up has influenced the changes in their guitars but I like it! I like the fact you can get a Epiphone with a Floyd!
I think this is gonna be a must own for me. My first electric guitar was a Vintage Metal Axxe series guitar (wraith model), black trans finish, 24 frets, floyd rose. I don’t own it anymore as I grew out of the “pointy guitar” phase of my life. This thing kinda reminds me of that guitar thanks to the specs, and it comes in one of my favourite Gibson shapes.
i remember being a teenager dreaming of the Thunderhorse haha it was out of stock so i went on the waiting list for the vampire blood moon explorer , i played so much dethklok on my vampire blood moon haha , this video is a trip down my teen years of bad ass music and guitars haha! , im a fan trogly! , you rock !
A huge collection of guitars was stolen from a guy named RobbyZ. If you buy vintage guitars, check it first. Search for it. I posted a comment on Trogly's last video, but I put a link and I guess it was automatically deleted.
I thought the guitar recording could have been better. I'd recommend an MD421 or SM7B. That ol 57 has some character that only a fender setup could love.
Regardless of what some people think Epiphone is getting on their game. I've got an Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro III goldtop and it's a great guitar. I was considering an ESP EC256 but I went with the Epiphone because of the split coil design. Like this Explorer they're independent of each other. The ESP had one push pull pot for both so you didnt have a choice to split just one pickup. That was a couple of years ago, could be different now. Anyway, its been a great guitar.
I am GASing for this guitar so bad. I'd still have to rewire it anyways because I like 1 meg pots and don't like coil splitting, and I'd change the tuners to schallers probably, and upgrade the Floyd to the classic with FU-Tone stuff to make it a real thing to be reckoned with. The bigger horn is good for shredders because you're elbow is in the right place on the top. Killer looking guitar even if it looks grey in the video.
Mine is very very good, what a steele guys. I am buying the black with blue lined case from Gibson, Floyd brass block, work the frets and roll the finger board, thats it, then just olay it. Great guitar 🎉😮🎉😮Its Rad! For me its, Jackson, Charvel, Gibson, ESP, Schecter wich are Friggin amazing, and now Epiphone! Super 😊👾👽
Sure, you could re-wire the existing pots, but really, there's room in the 3-way switch cavity that you could slap a tone knob up there. It'd be a rather tricky bit of soldering and might be a tad weird to have a knob over there. However, it'd make the guitar visually stand out even more.
this channel has always been a great educational source for me as well as a guide on what to avoid or what to keep my eye on hehe.. I learned my first bits of guitar anatomy from you! thank you trogly for being a great source for anything guitar!
It looks great but those pups just sound way too bright for me. A tone pot would have tamed that brightness straight out so I don't get why there isn't one?
Are you sure there's no tone pot? Brendon Small has mentioned several times that he likes to roll his tone knob back for a mellow lead tones and demonstrated it when he did his stream during the ghost horse's launch.
After a long wait, mine has finally arrived. So here is my take. On first inspection, it looked real nice. Have not found any issues with any of the cosmetics, so thats cool. The action was way high up, so i lowered the Floyd, but could not get it low enough to my preference before it bottomed out. O.K. It should be fine after I set it back up. So, as with all guitars a buy, I did a full tear down of the body, pickups, bridge, etc, and found some not so great issues with the neck, and frets. It does have quite a few frets that need to be trimmed, so my hands do not get shredded while playing, but there one major issue is on the 14th fret. It appears as though they had a problem setting the fret itself, and they used some kind of filler to cover up the damage done to the fret board. The problem is, the filler the used is white, and then I noticed a lot of tiny white specks all over the fret board, as if they filled a lot of imperfections. Now, it is not noticeable unless you take a close look, but the fret "repair" is a little more obvious, but still isnt a sore thumb. The neck is very back bowed, and I am putting 9's on it, so it should come back easily. I am an ebony fret board guy, just love black fret boards, but I have seen rosewood darker than this. Oh yeah, the little symbol thing on the 12th fret, is actually a little "lumpy". So after all the critiques, I still love it. Is it an $800 guitar? By a long shot, yes.
Cool I had to send back 2 till I got one that was acceptable. Was quite disappointed epiphone have been killing it with QC lately. Glad you got one your happy with.
@@SionynJones What was your issue? I finished all most of the work on it last night. Put EMGs in it, had to tap the bridge pin sleeves a little deeper to get my action where i want it, without bottoming the floyd out. I only use my bridge pickup, so when i gutted the p/u, and pots, i left the selector switch in, unwired, and made some long wires so i could put the battery in with the switch. tuned it, played for about an hour, and was happy. Still need to restring it, adjust the truss rod, and set the intonation, but it plays really good already. Since it came with real, tapped Gibson Burstbuckers, I should be able to get at least $150 out of them, so my pickups paid for themselves.
@@miked9000 cosmetic first time shoddy scraping of frets and finish cracks. Second had a broken case. Third I would say is acceptable binding was better but not great.
Did the springs for the bridge come from the factory that way? You don't set the springs that way, it makes the middle spring moot as the two outside springs are stretched longer. Not impressed at all.
Most people that hate Floyd Rose's have that opinion because of poor / wrong set ups a properly set up Floyd is a dream . A improperly set up one is a nightmare. Nature of the beast. When you angle the two outside springs. It basically makes them progressive the two out ones provide a softer touch until you go further then the middle one begins to act as a progressive resistance. It is the way Jeff Beck sets them up and you can't really argue with that. He said it give a more sensitive feel and response .And it reacts to the slightest touch early and you still a strong resistance when you hammer it.. He should know. Right?
Well, it definitely doesn't make the middle spring "moot". The middle spring has less tension on it and exerts less pull, sure. It's still pulling though. One can fine tune the resistance on the trem by adjusting spring angles like that. I'm not saying that's what was done here, but it's not "wrong", per se.
@@ChuckNicholsonTRM Agreed, different string gauges might require more tension in a particular side of the bridge. Hybrid string sets. I've added springs to my Floyd Rose setup in order to tune down to D, or what have you. When someone says "You have to have it set up like this" I become suspicious.
The bridge pickup is closer to the bridge on the production model than the one in the promo shot. And I don't believe that Epiphone uses genuine Honduran mahogany. And remember if it's not genuine mahogany then it's some cheaper substitute. I get that for an Explorer spec'd out like this that $800 isn't a lot, but it's still price creep for Epiphone guitars. That doesn't make me happy. $800 for a Chinese guitar is pushing it, IMO.
Great versatility and 24 frets' fantastic' ...lovely flamed veneer really works with the chrome and black, Floyd actually looks right here in chrome - bit over complicated during a performance string break. 24 length looks nicely proportioned ...Gibson pups the with splits, oozes that extra tone choice ...crank her up'
It's a non- recessed Floyd. So I dont think string change will be that hard at all. I've only had the recessed Floyd's, too many. And I have hated them everytime.
I call that fret access issue the Epiphone epidemic. All Epiphone Les Pauls I've played have the same problem with the 22nd fret. 20 is easy, 21 is a little obstructed, and 22 is very particular. I've never had that on a Gibson, but it's true of my Epiphone Les Paul Muse and Les Paul Modern.
I LOVE IT. The color (on my screen) is coming off as a gun-metal gray. The binding is awesome and really highlights it. I like the hardware too. It certainly would stifle the snobs who'd say Epiphones are inherently cheaply built guitars....not so with a Floyd Rose. The clean tones, although not fitting with the guitars aesthetics, are really choice. It's versatile in the sound dept. In my head, I could totally see Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick coming out and belting through a lot of one of their sets with this. And the price point is fantastic, especially for the quality contained.
That it it's like a silver burst but with more blue tones the two I've had have nice tops but quite sloppy finish on binding and body. Hopefully my replacement will be better.
I've had a Dean Z for about 10 years. It has served me well. The cost was $199. It was a great guitar for the price. The neck feels great (1 1/16th nut width, 24.75 scale length); I think it's a standard C. However, because the body is very radical and large, it's cumbersome in small spaces, such as in front of a computer desk or small stage. My taste has changed since buying this guitar, so personally, I would skip buying another because it's awkward. Metalocalypse and Brendon influenced my decision to buy it, actually. I don't regret the purchase at all, I'm just in a different place in my guitar playing journey.
I love the playing demo. I've got a death metal guitarist's most metal signature yet. What's the firs thing I should play on it? Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game"
Man you got a winner with that top. I bought one and I liked it so much I bought a second. I can't say I like the epi lite cases, they're a bit... cheaply constructed, but they sure beat the hell out of a gig bag or a cardboard box.
Just got one last week, and it's an amazing guitar, especially for the price. Money's a little tight right now, so I probably shouldn't have bought a new guitar, but now that I have it in hand, I can't say I regret it. Amazing buy.
Non recessed floyd and no tone this is a very EVH explorer. Definitely want to check one out but the burstbucker pickups were not my thing last time i tried them.
Your audio is sounding good. the satin backs are great for playing shirtless. many moons ago I used to pull off dressing like Robert Plant. Let me not burden the world with trying to pull that off anymore.
I'm liking the ghost horse more than the thunder horse. Only thing missing is a tone control. I like to roll my tones back a little off full depending on what I'm playing. The other explorer you compared it to seemed to have a slightly different horn where the toggle switch is. As far as the horn I think it couldve been narrowed by the neck. But I think Brendan plays some over hand so likely that horn isn't an issue for him. Floyd rose trims I find are so much better than any other. Once you do a set up they are such a joy to use.
I gave this guitar I try and really liked the finish and playability, loved the neck, which is why I tried it, but did like the way it sounded. Decided to go with a Les Paul Tribute Plus, also from Epiphone.
That's a fine example of a Ghosthorse so far I've had to return two. Both had not properly scraped on fretboard side with dirty streaks across all the binding by the frets. Worse the second one had no finish around the top strap button that was right down to the wood. The second guitar cases neck support want installed properly and was loose with exposed screws. Quite a disappointment I'd of loved to received that fine example you have. Hopefully the 3rd replacement will be better.
Latest signature release with a Floyd is the Epiphone Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess.... looks like there is a wait list so I guess no review for a while?
Just got a Ghosthorse delivered 3 days ago. I think I got a lemon. 😟 the Floyd Rose can only dive a small amount. The block hits the pocket in the back. Any chance you would be willing to go into some more detail about the size/shape/depth of the tremolo pocket as seen from the back? Others have started their tremolo bar can dive all the way down to the body. Mine dives only an inch.
I found the Epiphone Thunderhorse used from Guitar Center a few years ago for a great price and ordered it. It arrived in two pieces and chipped all up the back end. I was unhappy to say the least lol. Haven't found one for a decent price since.
The veneer on yours looks Great. Allot of these look like 2 different veneers. The wood grain goes one way on the top and completely different on the bottom and I don't like that. Def have to Cherry pick one that has a good top.
Wow! You outdid yourself, Trogley! You played the best ever! I think that guitar made you play better! I remember the first time I picked up my friend's flying V, I had to play rock and I had to compose a piece, but now I forgot it. LOL
Personally I use Crimson guitars they have the best "IMO " FRETBOARD oil it's based on a formula that's been in use for 500 yrs on string instruments and its not toxic. Which almost all lemon oils are. Also a bottle will last you years .I have four guitars and I've used about a half of bottle in 10 yrs. great product.
@@johnnyola2205 I've played for 55 yrs now never found anything that works as well. Just find a product you trust and make sure its nontoxic. Many of your wood oils tend to over time soften the wood .
Does it still hold tune? I called about ordering one from Sweetwater and my salesperson told me that it would end up being a headache due to the Floyd Rose being cheaper and made in South Korea. I really want one but I feel that I'll have to spend the extra money to replace the floyd rose with an original.
I love mine, but the fret finishing was shocking and required a tech to finish what should have been done by the factory. Action was hilariously high out the box. Now its sorted it plays as well as it sounds. I love explorers and am a huge fan of Brendon Small but the quality bears watching on current epiphones
The Explorer got it's bad boy reputation 15-20 years after it was introduced. Gibson in 1958 was not designing a guitar for high gain chugging and shredding. So, it should be versatile, especially with Gibson pickups. I think it looks fantastic. If it weren't for the missing tone knob, I'd sell the Epi Explorer I recently bought and get this one. Not crazy about Floyd Rose trems either, but I will concede their function and appeal.
When are you going to do some Kramer Guitars? Gibson is starting to give them some love and so should we.. Kramer Tracii Guns Gunstar Voyager, Kramer Snake Sabo Baretta, Kramer Pacer Vintage (Tiger Finish) would be the top 3.

@@SionynJones
What was your issue?
Right?
Yes both two I've had which had finish flaws had springs like this.
Great demo and unboxing! Love the channel.
Epiphone is stepping up their game.
@@johnnyola2205 Didn't look like ebony to me either. Good point.
Likely macassar ebony. Also not all ebony is inky black, a lot of it is dyed that way.
Wonder if this has a neck dive problem like many Explorers and Firebirds do.
What’s with the massive route for that toggle switch?
That's just a standard route for an explorer. Dose seem excessive though
I don't regret the purchase at all, I'm just in a different place in my guitar playing journey.
actually the thin layer of paint is because brendon prefers his guitars to have 1 layer of paint because it has a touch more of a better tone (9:01)
I hope you get a chance to review the Epiphone Alex Lifeson Axcess model. LP with a piezo-loaded Floyd Rose for $899?
Agree 100%
Can you actually pull up on that trem? Wtf is up with company’s putting Floyd rose trems on shit and not routing out the body!?!
The angled headstock helps but yeah I get what you mean.
Did you notice how close the E strings are to the edge of the fretboard?
I'm liking the ghost horse more than the thunder horse. Only thing missing is a tone control. I like to roll my tones back a little off full depending on what I'm playing. The other explorer you compared it to seemed to have a slightly different horn where the toggle switch is. As far as the horn I think it couldve been narrowed by the neck. But I think Brendan plays some over hand so likely that horn isn't an issue for him. Floyd rose trims I find are so much better than any other. Once you do a set up they are such a joy to use.
I've been waiting for you to do this video 😁 god I need this guitar 😭
I will send you one brother
@@teemoleague907 your joking aren't you?
@@gavinreeves2624have you bought it yet
I gave this guitar I try and really liked the finish and playability, loved the neck, which is why I tried it, but did like the way it sounded. Decided to go with a Les Paul Tribute Plus, also from Epiphone.
That's what you have to do this guitar has a unique sound of its own.
Would you be able to find out if the Ghosthorse Explorer would fit into the Gibson Deluxe Protector TSA case for Explorer?
Wallmart
Me in my Nyc apartment: “man this guy has a big yard”
Also: man, he pays a tenth of what my rent is. Hope your salary is worth ir.
The snows falcon ams Toki’s guitar, right?
Trogly's in the HOUSE!!!
Why are the low E and A string alignments over the bridge pick up so far off? Is something wrong with the Floyd Rose set up?
i know brenden small more from Home Movies than anything else.. seriously considering buying a ghosthorse.
That's the riff from Cyclone Temple! Nice guitar by the way. Love your channel. Greetings from Holland.
Does it have fret nibs
Older Kramers had no tone control.
LOL
Liking the display of the guitars out on your driveway!
Do you think it would be able to use drop b tuning without Buzz?
Do you use anything special for the Ebony boards? I have plenty of Rosewood boards but not much experience with ebony
This looks lovely. If it is too heavy / hard on the shoulder, get a wider guitar strap.
Idk if it's trogly's settings on the clean channel but the bridge pickup sounds too harsh, no bass
Did you’d o the noventa tele ?if so what is it labeled
Explorer matches with Floyd Rose. I have Floyd Rose on my Gibson 1976 Limited Edition Explorer, rocks so great.
will you review the new Epiphone LP access?
If I wanted this specific model, it would be with the ultimate goal to swap out those volume controls with stacked ones, a la Danelectro.
They must have made different colors cuz mine is more like the green one. I was really hoping mine would have looked more like that one
If I may ask, does the puppy experience the good old fashioned neck dive?
The first real teardown in the new house! Nice man! Nice guitar.
