This whole story reminds me of the “onion” revealed in the recent release of “The Beatles: Get Back”. Because of Peter Jackson’s delivery of hours of largely uncut and previously unreleased archive footage, we just learned that SO MUCH of the narrative around the Beatles was just flat out wrong and spun from cherry picked inference. As much as Scott jokes about “no content, only context”, I think we’re in the age of realizing that context is like 90% of anyway and brings us closer to knowing the real story (or at least the possibility that the real story isn’t even on our radar because we weren’t there).
I was laughing so much during Get Back when my mom was continually complaining about Yoko. You know, for sitting there. Knitting, or reading a paper. What a tramp.

Ok so I haven’t looked into the story of Jerry’s divorce, but for context, prior to divorce laws getting changed in the US you needed some sort of “legitimate reason” to get divorced. This made it so people who simply didn’t wanna be together anymore basically had to lie and say that one of the partners had committed some form of marital betrayal, just as negligence and cruelty I’m not saying he didn’t actually do that, because I don’t know since I didn’t look into it at all, but there is the chance that they had simply separated already and were just giving any reason to be able to legally divorce. This would explain why he didn’t contest the claims at all, since most men would probably wanna fight claims of extreme cruelty even if they did let the divorce go through
I tought that him getting with another woman was enough of a reason of a reson, and him finding a woman he actually loves was enough of a reason to go with the divorce

I find it interesting that we're looking at everyone else's perspective as positive, but did we forget that Jerry left his wife and son for a model he met at a party? What about their perspective? Sure, we can all agree that Joe probably didn't have such a terrible love life or was fine with his life style, but making it out like the other two found their "true loves" and didn't just wreck a marriage is pretty misleading and manipulative.
It's also mentioned that we don't know what their marriage was like. Was it good, bad, was it just time to end the relationship? It probably wasn't just a middle-aged fling on Jerry's part given he spent the rest of his life with "the model he met at a party". Their perspective isn't given because we don't know what their perspective was.

The segment about your feelings as a young nerd with unrequited desires and how it framed your uninterested crushes as villainous got me thinking about my own perspective on those situations. I'm a female geek raised in a conservative religious culture, and every time I've turned a man down or broken off a relationship--even when I was turning him down because he was 30 years older and married, even when I was breaking it off because of abuse that threatened my life--I've villainized myself. I was taught to do that. I was taught that women who don't give men what they want are evil, full stop, and for a long time I viewed myself as awful and unlovable because I couldn't meet those impossible standards. (Plus I had been told all my life that I was ugly and that nobody would ever like a girl who read comics. Or, you know, read.) So whenever I was the one being rejected--and yeah, that happened plenty of times--I took it in stride because really, who could blame a guy for going with a better option? It didn't help that I was nearly 30 before I learned about the asexual spectrum and why I was so rarely interested in any of the strangers trying to chat me up. But it's still interesting to me that I had a pretty similar experience to Scott's and I one thousand percent villainized myself for it instead of anyone else. Anyway, I've done years of therapy since then, realized I'm actually a pretty okay human and also qu**r as a three-dollar bill in a couple of directions, and tl;dr kinda looking forward to trying to date other women in the next few years. Also, hearing that Joe Shuster was good-looking, very private, briefly linked to a lot of gorgeous women, and "mysteriously" single for much of his life in the mid-20th century made my queerdar go off ping. I am an artist, and yes, I was thinking that too. The mention that he usually draws the same looking people over and over again indicated to me that he learned how to draw a few people and wasn't comfortable with trying to make one up.
I've actually known this story because of the Super Boys book, but your take on it was absolutely amazing! You took it further than just the information we know about. Thanks for making this video!
I appreciate giving them all a fair shake instead of just focusing on one viewpoint. It would be easy to focus on one person being the villain but given their renewal of friendship later and the privacy in which they mostly kept this situation, it wouldn’t be fair.
You can clearly see the difference in how you are happy (and funny) Scott in these last couple of videos in comparison when you were working for that other company. Keep up the great work!

@@makaiev I would not consider him a bad Superman at all. He had all of the qualities Superman is supposed to have. I think the main problem people see is because of the time it was made. This was the early 90s, TV was only still in the infancy of shifting away from the glossy, artificial melodramatic look of the 80s, special effects were more expensive and not as good, and there was less experience portraying super-powered characters in media. How to write and portray a superhero was something producers were still learning. Before this, they just had the Superboy series and Wonder Woman and The Hulk (and don't forget Batman of the 60s). Heroes in those series were watered down even more to fit into the budgets they had. Compare Lois and Clark to The Flash (which was also an early 90s series), and you'll see they already started to learn more and improved on what they did in the 70s and 80s. Yes, it appears dated, but portraying Superman, or any superhero at that time, came with a learning curve. It's because of Lois and Clark that we eventually got Smallville (which was better, but still had some issues). What they learned from Smallville eventually brought us Arrrow and The Flash and Supergirl. Lois and Clark was very typical of the shows you got in that time period, and the problems with it aren't unique to that show but existed across TV in general. One thing I liked from Lois and Clark was how well the leads portrayed their characters. Both leads brought very nice traits to their characters.
No matter what you think about relationships I think we can all agree. It’s a classless move to go on a date with someone then leave with someone else(let alone their friend 2x let alone their married friend) like that’s a dick move
Yeah, I think most times is fair and good to watch a situation from every angle. But unless we had more information like "Joe was being a creep so Jerry agree to take her home as a friend, and nothing romantic happened until after the divorce", but that is probably not what happened. They didn't make good choices.
I love this video so much and it really kills me that it has so little views compared to your normal videos. I watched his video at least three times on my own and I frequently send this to my friends
Well that was certainly all complicated. Also, a video on Jack Kirby's 2001 comics would be great! The ongoing series that he did after the movie adaptation were weird, man.
We used to go out clubbing with the guys and our friend Kate. She'd get offered drinks all the time and talk about "oh my friends will miss me, blah blah blah till the dude would try and flex and be like "Where are your friends, I'll buy them a drink too." The looks on their faces when the four guys at the bar behind them said thank you and ordered our drinks was priceless.
Off topic, but those flowers look like lilies and they are super deadly to cats, even if they only get the pollen on their face! Maybe you already know this but I wanted to say it just in case!
Definitely getting the fetish art book the first chance I get (purely for historical appreciation, I assure you). Honestly, I always find it really great whenever you mention a new book, since early comic book history is such a fascinating subject. So, thanks for the recommendations!

As an ace fan that has been here for what feels like decades:
Ayyy shout out to you buddy.
same here too
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT FOR A LONG TIME. I love you Scott, thank you for sharing your thoughts and your work with us. ❤️
I appreciate the ace shout-out! We don't get too much recognition.

I’m not an artist, so apologies if this comes across as ignorant, but could it be that he just didn’t feel comfortable/have the ability to draw other body types without practice?
Thanks for expanding the story and peeling back those layers. Also, so great to see how far you've grown beyond those dorm room years!
Feels like a stretch to assume the married Jerry's wife and child were cool with him cheating and suddenly leaving could have been a mutual decision.
24:41 "as long as its between consenting adults"
Joe: *draws a real person who he no longer has any relationship with into porn, presumably without telling her
I for one am glad you didn't cover this sooner because now you can, and did treat it with the tact it deserves
Kurt Devlin sounds like a really dark Batman villain. Great video, and you did a really good job of making sure to treat every subject respectfully. I also liked your "confession" and the way you reworked the love triangle for the other two people.
A quick request - Please cut back on the overly loud deliberate noises (like the very long slurping of the tea).
I’ve been watching your videos since 2014 Scott and they are always great. Your passion for making them fun and interesting and looking into the history of comics has always made you one of my favorite creators on TH-cam. I’ve been feeling especially lonely lately with COVID sucking the joy out of life still and I moved overseas where I don’t know anyone so making it a little harder still. Coming home to see you had posted a new video is likening having a new episode of Marvel or Star Wars on Disney + to watch. Stay awesome dude we share the same hair style and beard. More Scooby-Doo videos please.
been watching since i was like 10 or 11 or smthn im 18 now n it's been so cool watching this channel progress, i remember watching the old videos on super hero origins for like hours , glad that ur still enjoying making amazing content
Scott saying “shoutout to my ace fans!” literally made my day
Your videos are still making me cry, dude. I really like the narrative and end take of this video. I kept asking during the video, "but are the other two happy?" (I couldn't remember anybody's name).
I found that Secret Identity fetish art collection at my local Goodwill a few months back and I couldn’t believe it even existed, let alone I found it at Goodwill of all places. It was a little awkward having to ring it up at the register but it’s a great book!
Nice vid Scott! Really love how you told the story from multiple perspectives, and explained the importance of it!
If this video doesn't at least touch on the "Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane" comics, I will be VERY UPSET.
I haven't realized that Joanne Siegel had hungarian heritage until I saw that her real name was Kovács Jolán. I really liked how you pronounced her name, it sounds so different. Thank you for this video, it really made my day!
Wow Scott, you really outdid yourself here. Great editing as always, but a interesting story told very well with a lovely message at the end. One of my favourite videos of yours, and the reason why you’re one of my favourite TH-camrs (and I watch far too much TH-cam haha)
Lovely, beautiful video, I am really happy it took you this long to create a video about this topic, you really capture the human complexity where love is concerned.
Would you consider doing an origin story on Mary Jane Watson in the comics because I've seen videos but they never fully explain her origin? Thanks
I think she’s was based on Anne Margaret? I think.
There could be a whole video about artists back in those days sneaking their fetishes into superhero comics WITHOUT even touching on Wonderwoman.
Tbh even nowadays artists and writers find ways to add their kinks
Oh my god! An ACE shout out! I love it! Definitely sending you tea.
That friends to lovers joke got me good
I know I missed Valentine's Day by *A LOT* but what did you expect from me?
Had to recheck the date
Here in Brazil the equivalent of Valentine's day (dia dos namorados) is celebrated on June 12... So from my point of view this is actually a lot earlier...
At least you can say it came out around Superman's birthday
Reliability
Such an interesting video! Your delivery and the angles you bring to this discussion are fascinating, Scott 🙂
The algorithm has fought this channel, but the search is strong with this Jedi
I love NerdSync videos. Thanks Scott!
"I've started getting Libertarian campaign e-mails"

Babe wake up, new nerdsync dropped
I DIDN'T GET A NOTIFICATION FOR THE VIDEO. SUPER EXCITED, SORRY I'M LATE
Your videos are so good. Full of information, analysis and very creative. You rule, man.
I was a big fan of this channel when I was like 14. I fell off it a few years later and just got back into it because you’ve been put back into my Twitter algorithm (thanks Ada Rhodes) I’m glad to be back this video was super well done.
Great video Scott. I can’t wait for your next content. Your an awesome insightful person.
I love the video! It was a great look into the personal lives of people I *knew* but didnt much know the interworkings of. My one bit of constuctive criticism (it was a great video) is, I like the ultimate message of the video but I wouldn't have minded a little bit more time for anactdotes of Jerry and Joanne Siegel's relationship at the end of the video. Idk if there is a lack of information I just think a little more info wouldve added a little more context (you're all context) regardless! Great video! Keep it up
And even then he had basically no info on Jerry's Ex wife or kid he ditched them for Joanne for.
@2:53
SCOTT: And folks, this is a juicy one!
SUPERMAN: Great Scott!!!
24:35
1) Ain't nothing wrong with a lil noncon action _in arts and media_ .
2)Pain kink, bdsm, etc are exploring non consensual as a fantasy at at least some level.
3) Wonder Woman's creator didn't have to sue and then leave and go create fetish stuff he was ashamed of, he got to stay and work his kink into the mainstream DC comics, while having 2 wives and being a proto feminist.
The Chad William Moulton Marston💪 vs The Virgin Joe Shuster.🚶
Edit: Heeeey there was a mood swing after I wrote this that makes me feel bad for writing it! No fair!
"Are you listening to me?" That had to be deliberate, right? Like, you couldn't more perfectly write that.
Every video i realise how much i've missed your content since the last one.
Romance, history of women workplace in the 30's AND bondage comics? You always outdo yourself.
Happy Valentine Day to you too dear Scott.
Very good video. I love Learning new facts and information about about these pop culture icons. Your videos are always informative and fun to watch. Your videos are a real treat. Keep up the great work.
24:36 I feel like drawing a woman you knew personally in sexual situations without her consent is a bit of a flaw
34:16 The jump from sincere, personable Scott voice to fake, put-on Scott voice was jarring and I am suing for emotional destress.
Also excellent video Scott!
5:20 No, Scott, Kurt Devlin is💯 a villain name. It's even got "Devil" in it.
Awww… it’s great seeing your adorable face on my TH-cam feed with a new video. Happy (late) Valentine’s Day, Scott, and I hope you’re doing well
was thinking about your video a couple of days after watching and wanted to swing back and publicly marvel at how tight your script writing is without coming off as overproduced. easily my favourite essay scripts on youtube. say hi to the wife and kids for me
Amazing video as always, Scott! Definitely helped me hate valentines day a little less lol
Such a delightful video, particularly with the context you've provided. Jokes are absolutely wonderful, too. Oh, and congratulations on your potentially dozens of children we'll never know if you have, Scott.
New NerdSync video?! It's a Good day!
24:15 Me? Kink-shame? Hecll, my favorite comic book these days is Adam Warren's "Empowered"...
Love is like an Onion
The more you peel, the more it makes you want to cry
I personally love that this onion bit has layers, much like onions which of course also have layers...
This deserves a million views
I like Dean Cain's take on Clark Kent. He has a touch of naivete that was very refreshing.
Good Clark Kent, bad Superman... But much of that was the production and script tho 😅
33:48 Is for Jerry's Ex Wife and kid who got tossed to the side by him for his homewrecking life with a hot younger lady? XD
I love this video so much and it really kills me that it has so little views compared to your normal videos. I watched his video at least three times on my own and I frequently send this to my friends
Today an eternal rivalry was born Scott versus Kurt Devlin
Wonderful video scott always love the work you're doing
Enjoying this. Keep up the good work my guy !
Well that was certainly all complicated. Also, a video on Jack Kirby's 2001 comics would be great! The ongoing series that he did after the movie adaptation were weird, man.
Bruh, you didn’t have to knock this video out of the park by this much! This literally so fucking good!!
When he brought out the onion I thought he was going to mention the Carol Ann Duffy poem
We used to go out clubbing with the guys and our friend Kate. She'd get offered drinks all the time and talk about "oh my friends will miss me, blah blah blah till the dude would try and flex and be like "Where are your friends, I'll buy them a drink too."
The looks on their faces when the four guys at the bar behind them said thank you and ordered our drinks was priceless.
I belief that’s the best comic couple by far is…Batman and Joker
How is that a better relationship that Reed Richards and Susan Storm or even Batman and Cat woman?
@@hydrolito I was kidding lmao, of course those are better ✌️
A video on my birthday? Thank you sir ❤️
Happy bir ay
@@Baconlovesreddead thanks!
Off topic, but those flowers look like lilies and they are super deadly to cats, even if they only get the pollen on their face! Maybe you already know this but I wanted to say it just in case!
You always have such great videos, I get so excited every time I see you post. Always top tear content from you.
Great Video As Always Scott.
Definitely getting the fetish art book the first chance I get (purely for historical appreciation, I assure you). Honestly, I always find it really great whenever you mention a new book, since early comic book history is such a fascinating subject. So, thanks for the recommendations!
No worries, I can't blame you.
Can't believe I missed this one! Fascinating video!!
I love rewatching your videos, they’re my comfort food 💙
Your videos help with my anxiety. You rock dude.
the first comic book couple I think of is harley quinn and poison ivy but that’s just because im sapphic as hell
Keep up the great work Love your videos
Thank you for the context!
Content was nice too
I like this version 😊
You just keep getting better at this huh
God I love finding out how based Scott is.
Same. 🌟
