Sorry for the delay in videos this past month. I got sick for a bit and the issues with the previous video took a lot out of me. But I'm back looking at these super fun old Marvel cartoons! And if you can, I'd appreciate any support over on Patreon and/or buying some of my merch over at NerdSyncStore.com. Thanks! 💜
I forgive you. I can't wait until I can afford to support you and other creators on Patreon or whatever again, I just haven't had the income. I'm getting there though, I've been on the hunt for something that appeals to me.
Actually the name Donald Blake isn't boring. In most cases Stan used an alliterative name for his characters (Peter Parker, Reed Richards, Stephen Strange..) to help remember the name (he once slipped with Bob Banner). Donald Blake is taken either from Donder en Bliksem - Dutch for thunder and lightning - or the German version Donner und Blitz. So quite an appropriate name for Thor's secret identity..
Speaking about the flowery language, I never realized how much Marvel respected the kids who read their comics. I read these in compilations as a kid and learned so much interesting vocabulary and concepts about science and myth.
I remember watching this show when it originally came out. And I can assure you that despite how crappy this animation looks now, it was among the most awesome and impressive things in my life and in all existence back when I was five.
I remember older kids trying to convince me this show was bad, since all it was was voiced comic book panels w a minimal amount of movement. And my response was, "Yeah, that is why I like it". Dramatically voiced, moving comic books, what more could a kid ask for?
There was nothing else at the time. If you are born later and bombarded with more modern content, this seems corny. And they made 39 episodes of each super hero? That's unheard of today. Super Friends was pretty bad but it ran for 12 years.
As a resident of Pittsburgh, thank you for the extended shout out! However I must chide you for not bringing up the nickname the steel industry of Pittsburgh had during World War II: The Arsenal of Democracy. Ironically, medicine and health care is now one of our major industries, so I guess we went from Thor to Donald Blake.
The Arsenal of Democracy is an awesome nickname! Maybe that's why the hammer turns into Donald Blake's cane, and not briefcase or something. Perfect prediction of the future health care industry! lol
19:24 "Prince Namor the First" Yeah I don't think that's how royal titles work. You usually don't get called "the First" until there is a second, nor do you get these kinds of titles if you are just a prince. But then again the same people who made this also just had Loki create a Thor duplicate to hold Thor's hammer and then immediately said "Loki kinda forgot about the Thor duplicate"
Okay, how about this ground rule?: Thor was banished to Earth as Donald Blake...If he loses his hammer while ON ASGARD, he has no reason to return to his earthly disguise. As Stan Lee used to say, here is your official Marvel No-Prize.
26:54 This reminds me of the ending of The Blob where they trap the blob in the Arctic (because it is immobilized by cold) where they say it will stay trapped forever “as long as the Arctic stays cold” which is definitely a more terrifying statement today than it was in 1958

Chris Wiggins was also in the original "Sailor Moon" dub, but he was also on "Friday the 13th: the Series" aka "Friday's Curse". Also, Loki and Amora pulling this stuff...on brand.
Good work on this one! The songs along with the dialogue for all the episodes were translanted and dubbed for the French Canadian market. Me and friends grew up watching these and we can still sing some of the songs. The end credit March is the one that stuck with me. Years later, I played in a band with a sax player whose father had sung the French version of the Namor theme and I was quite impressed with that. Looking back on these, yes they are cringe worthy but produced in an era when these were produced on a shoe-sting budget looking as shabby as Clutch Cargo and where most people only had access to three ot four TV channels.
Some of the same art used for the animated cartoons was on the film strips you could buy to play on a battery operated projector. At the time these were around it was pretty cool. To be a kid and to play your favorite cartoons at home. This was way before VCRs, so we were easily impressed.
A phenomenal video as always! Classy and colourful just like you. A pleasant reminder of why you’re my favourite youtuber. You are most certainly worthy Scott!

I'm fully aware of how silly that is but I think I might have nightmares about it.
I'm totally shook.
"Without my Mallot, my Power will leave me!"
So true. 😩
The Editing in this video is a real HOOT!! 😂 Thank you SO much for poking great fun at my childhood Marvel cartoons!!! 😇
Great video Scott! I gotta say seeing Stan before he became a brand made me legitimately question everything. Oh and I'm very invested in the hammer's pitch for his own movie. 10/10
Chris Wiggins was also in the original "Sailor Moon" dub, but he was also on "Friday the 13th: the Series" aka "Friday's Curse".
Also, Loki and Amora pulling this stuff...on brand.
Stan the man, excelsior! And… wait… who is that bald man? NOOOOOOO! The 70’s sure changed him!
Hulk's theme song was the best, I still remember it to this day.
When my dad was a kid in the 1980s in Australia they used to have re-runs of this show on Saturday mornings.
They turned the Executioner into Groot? That's a WAY cooler character.
He's also Skurge from MCU Ragnarok, if you couldn't tell by the face tattoos. "Behold... my roots!"
@@expendableindigo9639 Yes. I watched One Small Change about that character.
Some of the same art used for the animated cartoons was on the film strips you could buy to play on a battery operated projector. At the time these were around it was pretty cool. To be a kid and to play your favorite cartoons at home. This was way before VCRs, so we were easily impressed.
Man I don’t know if I’d I’ve care about these shows if you were not covering them. But these are hilarious videos 🤣
A phenomenal video as always! Classy and colourful just like you. A pleasant reminder of why you’re my favourite youtuber. You are most certainly worthy Scott!
"Why are the theme songs so good?!"
...
"Oh because the animation people didn't do it."
OMG! I remember these cartoons. They were on weekday afternoons (don't remember which day), and I watched all of them, especially Thor, because I got to see Loki.. They sucked so bad. Now, it's so much fun to watch at least parts of them. Thanks.
