There's not many voices in the self-defense community as intelligent as Tony's in my experience. He gets it in a holistic way that incorporates evolutionary biology, animal psychology and social systems in a way that is unique and really important. Thanks coach!!
from experience this makes a lot of sense. but the question is whether you will be able to act when you get that premonition. a lot of people go blank when fear captures them.
It takes experience to react under pressure. In my case, it was the military that helped me with that type of experience. But no matter how you train, situations can always be simulated.
Never would have thought of the preemptive cancel and faux outrage move, I'll try to keep that kicking round in the old brain box in case I ever feel the need. Smart stuff.
Ijust watched this again aftr some time. Then I had a brainwave. Next time I go to the ATM I will practice "cancel". I suggest you all do it to put it into your memory. Best wishes all.
i get you. but can you really train for these situations!? in my experience, unless you have been genuinely put in such a situation like this, and therefore are akin to what your personal reaction will be like, its a coin flip as to whether all that training and repetition will kick in. you can't practice anxiety, fear or stress.
right i understand. but apart from a science lab how do you "simulate" the experiences of fear, anxiety and stress genuinely?! training these exercises is like equipping a person with tools. but it doesn't necessarily guarantee that they will be able to recall these tools when they experience a mugging or attack. can you?
I prefer punching people in the face. A guy spooked me (accidentally) at an atm one night and I instinctively sang him a lullaby with my fist. But then again I have been kickboxing since I was 6. So maybe if I had no experience besides working out I would do this...doubt it tho.
How so?It's a strategy, it's at an atm, pretty sure that's Tony Blauer. Just because you assumed it would refer to actual combat doesn't make the title wrong.
You just watched a real man giving real knowledge.

Genius
Do you think this would have the same affect if it was a women at the atm? Psychologically would a man(bad guy) think twice...in your opinion
Yes. The aim is to rob you for money. And supposedly you have no money to rob, not worth the effort.
Goes well with the Crossfit Self Defense classes. I feel it could be done without the cussing.... But still a good video over all
The shirt he is wearing.

!!!!!
Lol.
it makes sense sorta
The title of this video misled me to believe that I was going to watch something else...
WOD???
Crossfit should be about fitness. Tryin to cover too many things at once just Makes things go down hill.
what if someone tries stealing my Starter jacket?
"Perfectly good-looking mugger"!?! I'm confused...
lol thought imma see some fighting tutorial... but guess what you never get what you wish for.
Please dissociate this from CrossFit!
The people that go blank are the untrained. Hence the reason for this video series. repetition = muscle memory = survival
Uhhh

Sigh, I remember when Crossfit was all about functional exercises... They are ruining this sport

I love how you are bragging about "accidentally" "protecting" yourself. You are a fucking douche bag. Shut up.
you are a complete fuckwit
misleading title
