KevinOilPainting Kevin I really need your help. I am a beginner in oils . I am horrendous at drawing but for some reason I can paint fairly well. My question is this . I’m doing Bob Ross golden rays of sunshine,with the white canvas,I must put on 2 coats of black. Then my paper towels white gesso. I have all the paint I need , but I got linseed oil, instead of liquid clear. Yovette is a teacher on Bob Ross technique and she said it’s better for me to use Bob Ross clear. That I could use it in a pinch ,but.... I also can’t breathe in chemicals so I’m going to have to paint outside. This is completely different than acrylics,so I got 2 bottles of baby oil to clean the brushes . Could I use terpenoids to clean brushes . That’s the tricky part is having enough brushes . Do you think linseed is the same ,because I’m using Indian yellow over this . And apparently the best results are with the Bob Ross liquid clear. Should I also order black and liquid white too. Someone told me I need to order both .Also I have 2 brushes 1’@ a 2 inch. I have lots of fine brushes and some fan brushes,but what would you recommend. I’ve just recently seen your work . Thank you so much for your time Kevin . I. Using Windsor and Newton. Do you know where or if a Michaels sells Huge buckets of gesso? I figure with the size canvas I have ,and they are 4 for 4 people for Christmas. Do I need to sand gesso? 🙏❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦
Vilots scattered about the ground under the tree us an option. They flourish in the shade, vary in size and have sweet heart-shaped leaves that are grass green +1 shade darker. Blue based purple and some are white with purple flecks. I love the muted green-yellow with blue and soft purple - absent of lilac - A great subject for a painting - Willie Tree, Light, and violets. .💫
I've purchased his tutorial videos to help support him and his family cause he does give the 80% solution with his free videos. I am thoroughly happy with my purchases thus far (4 videos).

I'm a professional artist, and just got a commission for a big landscape that includes a willow tree...and then I realized I don't think I've ever painted one...thank you, Kevin for this excellent instructional video, which will help a lot, even if in my scene the tree is not backlit. I totally love this video. I have been wanting to paint a willow tree for a very long time and was unsure of how to go about it. You made it look so simple. I just love your painting techniques, Mr. Hill. I might attempt this painting in Acrylics one day. Key word is ATTEMPT ... LOL!!! But, I've always heard that the main reason you find Weeping Willow Trees near ponds, streams, or any body of water is that they love the moisture that they are able to "pull" from the water source (air and ground water.) I may be wrong, but, that's just what I've always heard. Just thought you'd like to know that. This is a beautiful painting, though. I do hope mine turns out at least *half* as nice. Thank You so much for sharing it with us.
