Yes , yes, The northern European rooms are so awesome! Yes I would like to see a long form tutorial. I am really interested in the ideation process. Ill watch and listen to anything you put up.
Long or short format is fine. I just enjoy hearing your thoughts on the process. I guess the nuts and bolts so to speak. Thank you for sharing! Beautiful work BTW!
For me, long-form content with details of the medium, brushes, and paint mixing would be excellent. (I've already learned to wear gloves if using Lead White.) It would also be great if it was live.
This was my first video of yours and I am blown away! Your lighting is what dreams are made of, and this painting is stunning. I really appreciated the pacing of this video but I could have easily watched another hour of you painting. I understand that it makes it so much harder to focus on painting while you are filming so I would just appreciate whatever you have the energy for! Great work, and hope you have a Happy New Year!
Always a treat to watch you paint Steve. Love the composition, dreamy colours. I also really like the ornate frame. I'm shopping for one on Amazon right now ;).
Thanks Rob! Yes the painting-in-frame is not what I usually do but it helped here. Let me know if you find any good scores for ornate frames. I know of a couple if you get stuck.
Wonderful video :) That curtain pole contraption is genius. I tried with a painting stick type of thing, but this looks a lot more convenient. Long form videos are a thing I'd appreciate very much - and if that's the thing you actually feel drawn to - even better. You could have your own podcast, too. Not the typical artist interviews artist thing that we already have. Something only you could do.
Thank you. Another great hand-bracing system that I would like to try going forward is a vertical stick (not a standard malstick) that has a loop at the top to hand from a screw sticking out of the top of an easel. I've seen a few others use that only. I think the commination of my system and that one could be great. That is useful input about a podcast. I've thought about it but thought I would stick to just making episodes for a while to see how the numbers go. Thank you for watching!
Great video man! From experience I know how much work it is to film and edit the process, and how much of a hassle it is to have to position yourself in awkward angles because of the camera. Personally I find it hard to keep churning out these kinds of videos. It takes more energy than you get out of it. Then there are those question like: Do I want to be a TH-camr, a teacher, sell courses, just promote my work here or why the hell am I doing this? You touched on a lot of things, but I just wanted to comment on the stamina part, running out of it in the block-in stage if spending too much time there , so true! Sometimes I don't have energy left for even two more strokes in the detail phase that could have made all the difference and I end up with subpar paintings. Edit: Long form would be cool, but I also enjoy these 20-minute ones. I think the pacing is nice, maybe here and there smaller jumps in the timeline, but overall it's enjoyable!
Thank you for the great insight Andy! You know the challenges well. That idea of a block-in taking 20% of the time to leave 80% for detail (if possible) is something that has only cemented itself in my mind over the past year or so. I got around it by working in many different sessions (layers) so the alla prima challenge was somewhat mitigated, leaving more stamina at the beginning of a new layer. Regarding filming while painting, I actually kind of quit after my first dozen videos while moving house and studio in 2021. It didn't really seem worth it. It has only been after a bit more views in the last few videos that it seems like it could be worth it but my jury is still out. Should be clearer after data from a few more videos. Thanks again for watching and commenting!
@@stevechmilar1215 I see, I'm gonna give that a go, that block-in workflow, thanks! Yeah I definitely think you could grow a big channel and I for one am looking forward to another video!
Thank you for watching and for the question. I use standard round brushes size 4, 2 and 0 for this small work. The brand I've used recently is Opus Bravura. That's an art store on Canada's west coast called Opus art supplies that makes their own brushes.
Thanks for the question. I started using them after having my hand in a cast in 2017. A hand clinic gave me my first few to decrease hand-muscle strain. You should be able to find them online by searching: foam grip expander. I get the small ones similar to a pencil hole size and put tape on my little brush if it doesn't fit snug.
I must be honest, for me personally, I much prefer long form content... I do not watch any short form content, and I definitely do not watch any shorts...
Beautiful 😍.. Please do post long-form videos.
Very good I would enjoy longer also. This went by fast.

Obviously a real, old school professional. Subject matter isn’t my cup of tea though. Keep up the good work.
Amazing!!!!!! Love it!!!

Thank you Lucy. Happy new year to you as well and may it be filled with great art.
I love your style and learned so much about broken color, detail painting, etc.
Thank you very much for watching Todd.
I enjoyed and learned. Thanks
This was amazing! So enjoyed it!. 🇨🇦
Great painting, thank you! Subscribed, so that I can see step-by-step... long form content which would be greatly appreciated. :)

A very interesting way. There is much to learn. Thank you. It is a very good experience. I like to draw. It is difficult but interesting
Thank you very much for watching!
Not monatized?! Subscribe to this man!
Long form is good 👍 you could do time-lapse version of the same videos if you like, then you cover both sets of people. Awesome painting BTW 🖼 👌
like your style brother
Thank you very much!
❤love it can I get a step by step drawing and painting
Mariano fortuny painted excellent small figures
Thank you. Just looked him up. Yes indeed, something great worth looking into more.
@stevechmilar1215 I made a master copy of " nude old man in the sun" . His simplicity in the painting is great. Happy painting.
Yes long form please
Thank you!

Do you have a set of miniature brushes for your small paintings or a selected few?
Thank you. Really like video.

Does anyone know what those brush grips he uses are? Or are they something he makes himself?
