    I had not ridden this ride in a few years until September. I took my daughter on it and got front row seats while waiting for only 1 train. Being up front and floorless, it felt like I was sitting on the track, it was awesome. And being 6'4, my feet were literally 10"-12" from the track. I loved it, my daughter got a headache on it

    Imo, they should never remove iron dragon because of how rare and unique the suspended coaster is. The other coasters you mentioned I agree should be removed and Gemini be RMC’d
    At first I didn’t like rougarou but I got 4 rides nonstop and started to appreciate it but I feel like they should replace it with a b&m inverted sit down with a launched hill similar to Incredible Hulk and theme it up

    We got 4 front row rides in a row without getting off at the end of the night this summer, and I just love this coaster! I agree it could help them to relocate it. Put it at Michigan's adventure and make it worth the family tri trek to cedar point, kings Island and mich ave.

    9:14 "Once Canada's Wonderland removes both of these headache inducing machines, they will have plenty of room for Rougarou to "be an even bigger headache inducing machine" to be located on the left side of the park. Not only would this dominate this side of Canada's Wonderland, it would also give the park yet another high-capacity coaster that focuses on flipping riders upside down "and knocking their heads off..."

      @@SJSmith-vq6wy I actually rode them back to back in July for only the credits (didn't ride them again for a 2nd time) and my ears started feeling better halfway through the 30 min wait for Behemoth. I rode Rogarou today, 1st time since it was Mantis. I liked it and would be happy for it to stay. Would rather see Gemini, Iron Dragon, or Corkscrew go away. But I'm not considering any other factors other than my personal preference and would still be open to something bigger and better.

  • @MileHighGrowler
    @MileHighGrowler ปีที่แล้ว +15

    One of the biggest benefits Rougarou has is that it's reliable and it's a people-eater. The lines can still get long on busy days, but it's got pretty continuous through-put. Unfortunately, too many of the more recent coasters at CP have had reliability or capacity issues. If CP decides to remove or move Rougarou, they needs to find something that can maintain the level of riders per hour / uptime that they have now.

    • @SteelRiderCarl

      Yep, exactly. And even if Corkscrew is replaced with a coaster that has better capacity than TT2, Millennium Force and SteVe are still going to draw crowds in the other direction. So Rougarou will still be helpful to relieve them.

    Out of the 4 coasters you mentioned that could be removed from Cedar Point, I think Rou and Corkscrew would be the best choices. Iron Dragon is kind of a relic at this point and (at least in my experience riding it as a child) provides a great coaster for aspiring coaster riders. Same thing with cedar creek mine ride. If they do end up removing Rou, I personally think the most logical thing to replace it with would be something from Vekoma like Lech Coaster or Fonix. Leaning more towards Lech Coaster. A modern, inversion based ride with intensity and airtime. I think either of those would be a smash hit. And with Cedar Fair working with Vekoma now, I could absolutely see that being a possibility if they wanted to go the thrill ride route.

    The main reason I see for why people want Rougarou gone is that it's just a decent coaster and would be #1 in a lot of other parks. I agree with that opinion, but not as a reason for removal. You wouldn't hear any removal talk if it was newer like the other large decent coasters Gatekeeper and Valravn. I even prefer Rougarou over those two for the intensity. I doubt there's any thoughts from the park about removing it due to ridership. At some point the older coasters in the park will be removed and likely replaced with coasters at a similar thrill level. Unless the park continues the trend of replacing rides with restaurants. Michigan's Adventure's main issue will always be Cedar Point. Any investment into MA competes with CP, as CP pulls a ton of it's foot traffic from the state of Michigan.
      Cedar Fair will likely have to shed some dead weight with the Six Flags merger, and not only would Michigan's Adventure be a prime candidate, the park itself would benefit from a management company that's actually interested in developing the park.

  • @persianking44

    I agree with most of the suggestions there. I was going to bring up how Rougarou wouldn't fit at Knott's, not just because of the park's very limited space, but because SFMM is only a one and a half to a two hour drive away and it offers a very similar experience and layout with Scream! (Silver Bullet on the other hand at least does have a very different layout than Batman), but Michigan's Adventure, Canada's Wonderland, and Valleyfair make way more sense.

    Cedar Point is my local park Rougarou is often a walkon. Its not a terrible ride, but its rough in the second half. There are a hand full of die hard fans but I would not be sad to see it go. Realistically if they were to put the vest restraints on instead of the hard foam overheads it would remove the headbanging most people complain about. I say change restraints or move it, but you are correct. The 4 you listed at cedar point are ready to go, we have a soft spot for gemini but it has been having issues last two years with going down or needing to run one train only. Seems like if they had the intentions to keep the coaster they would fix the issue. I feel they are limping it along.

    I say restore it to a standup coaster now that we have that new surf coaster technology!
    Now here’s my crazy idea: Firstly repaint and retheme it, take out the lift hill entirely just leaving a portion of the drop, and make it start with a launch into a treble clef element that attaches to the drop and the rest of the ride, essentially transforming it into a surf coaster.

    Hot take alert!!!!! Remove Frontier Land, the petting zoo, and SR Expedition to put in 1 or 2 more coasters/rides. I keep seeing vids with CP coaster removal speculation. But what about the massive no ride zone from Millennium Force to Thunder Canyon? There is so much land and ride potential for this area. Would the majority of GP really miss Toot Sweets, or the glass blowing demo? Frontier Land is always a walk through for most people. I feel with the new Boardwalk area now open, Frontier Land is even more of a ghost town. This way they could keep every coaster and add a couple more. Or what about the plot of land behind the makeshift fence at the food truck hub? If you're on Rougarou you can see the land aching for a new coaster. Cedar Point definitely has land options to build more rides.

    While true the land behind high roller is prone to flooding, flood waters rarely come up to where the old haunt attractions were in this area. Replacing track isn't effective if not in the same location. With rides like Hulk and Nemesis, they are using the same ride footers. A relocation and track replacement still requires that element of construction. They might as well build a new coaster because all they'd have is the lift hill and break run/station track for a relocation and retrack. If Cedar Point removes Rougarou it could be a Firehawk situation. That said I suspect Rougarou has more service life than we would expect. It's not a year round park like Universal or built into a big pit like Nemesis.

    Going to be honest I did not expect to see Canada's Wonderland make it to this list. Although it wouldn't be a bad replacement for Flight Deck I feel like the park could benefit from something better than a relocated floorless coaster.
    That being said one park I feel like that could really benefit from Rougarou is Worlds of Fun. The only looping coaster they have at the park that isn't inverted is Boomerang. There are also no floorless coasters anywhere else in Missouri. The closest floorless coaster to Worlds of Fun would also be Superman: Krypton Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas (approximately over a 12 hour drive from the park).
    Looking back though instead of giving Mantis the floorless treatment back in 2015 Cedar Fair should of relocated the coaster before giving it the floorless conversion.

    I think it's a pretty fun ride though it is admittedly overshadowed. I don't know that Cedar Point really needs to move it per se but only because it's footprint is small enough that I don't think it would make enough room to do something on the scale you'd hope for from Cedar Point. But I guess a compact MACK multi launch or Vekoma could work in its spot. But I'm not sure that would be the kind of thing that would draw much attention from the general public. But if you incorporated a few of the little pocket areas next to the you could maybe fit something bigger in there.

I think your prediction of 2050 is very generous, I think we will see it gone before 2040 if I had to make a guess and probably closer to 2036. You're completely correct about the parks you picked as well, with the exception of Canada's Wonderland (which has more than enough coasters, but it still clearly says something about the quality of their collection if Rougarou going to instantly become one of the best coasters in the park if it's moved there). Relocating would be best. It’s a great ride and would be a great fit in many parks. No my favorite ride when we visit CP, but if the park is packed, Rougarou will have a short line.

  • @brianfoss571
    @brianfoss571 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only park that could realistically receive Rougarou is Worlds of Fun, and there are better ground-up options CF could choose from. And like others have said, Cedar Point needs its people-eaters. Wouldn't be shocked if Raptor gets retracked before Rougarou is removed.

    I think Rougarou should be relocated to Kings Island. I think it would be a nice fit, and it would get more riders since Kings Island is a small park, and its easy to get to all of the coasters without being worn out from all the walking.

    Last time I rode this, I was that one height where every time it shakes your ear bones get kind of crushed in your skull, but the layout was fun. That kind of ruined the ride experience for me though.

    This ride is incredibly rough in certain rows, so if they do decide to remove it maybe between 2025-2030 they could build a massive giga right next to the original giga

    Frontier town has maverick and steel vengeance. Each area of cedar point should have two great roller coasters. The park is that good. Millennium force needs a partner and rougarou isn’t it. I’d add a gerstlauer or Mach ride. Actually, something similar to skyrush as a compact intense ride would make sense there. On the other side of the midway, dragster should awaken that area. However they really need to get rid of corkscrew and add something better. I dislike magnum and actually really like Gemini, but I doubt they remove magnum. I’d love to see a ride that extends over the lake somehow. Magnum is your closest thing but is dainty. I wouldn’t remove Gemini. I’d remove corkscrew and the power tower and add something with a beyond vertical drop that is record breaking for height.

    Why would they want to remove a perfectly fine B&M? Doesn't make much sense when they've got a pile of hot garbage like Corkscrew. I see Corkscrew going before Rougarou... that or Cedar creek mine ride or maybe Gemini.

    • @Frankenberry
      @Frankenberry ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeepRidinCoasters I understand the premise, but why would a park even want to put the time and money into it knowing its probably nearing the end of its service life... they could just about build something else ground up by the time they paid to relocate and refurbish it... I don't see a park wanting to just put it in without completely redoing it , becsuse they're not going to get but maybe a decade out of it the way it is.

    • @Frankenberry
      @Frankenberry ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeepRidinCoasters Yeah I get what you're saying, but I guess what I'm getting at is by the time they paid to relocate it, then paid to refurbish it (being 30 years old I don't see a way to get around refurbing it, because otherwise they'd be paying all that money for something just for a few years before its out of service life), they could go ahead and building something ground up from RMC, or Zamperla, or any of the less expensive manufacturers. Especially given their recent love for Zamperla. You're looking at probably at least 12 to 15 million dollars to relocate and refurb Rougarou... they could build a decent brand new coaster from a smaller manufacturer for right around that same number.
      It just don't seem like good business sense to me.

  • @SteelRiderCarl
    @SteelRiderCarl ปีที่แล้ว

    I really like Rougarou! Is it a top 5 ride for me? No, not at all. But what it has going for it is that it's super solid, eats people, and gets better and better the more people are on it. I once rode it 13 times in a day and I discovered that in the 7th row, you actually get some airtime!

  • @frenchfrey65
    @frenchfrey65 ปีที่แล้ว

    Imo, Michigan's Adventure should take this, they haven't had a new coaster of any kind in years, their last new coaster was in 2008 and it too was a relocation, a Vekoma SLC, Thunderhawk. Idk any other CF park that has gone that long without a new ride whatsoever.

    • @frenchfrey65
      @frenchfrey65 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, 3 of the 4 other rides you mentioned I don't think are going away, Corkscrew was a foundational coaster for Cedar Point, that's why it's still there, it's a history piece, Gemini is similar to Blue Streak in terms of local loving popularity, and Cedar Creek Mine Ride is a mine train coaster which are always needed rides in every park much like kiddy coasters, they're perfect for kids who need a bit more of an intense ride than a wacky worm. Iron Dragon while legendary is a suspended coaster by Arrow, with increasingly expensive and rare parts. It's footprint also looks bigger from the top down pov, Rougarou being a B&M says it all, it's reliable, the parts are still plenty, and floorless models are still popular.

    Rougaru, iron dragon, gemini, and corkscrew are question marks for me when visiting cedar points. Rougaru is by far the best coaster on this list. But it's nearly a walk on which is the reason it's on this list. Good ride, not great. But not good enough for the landlocked cedar point.

    have a love hate relationship for it, there are stunning views and the first drop is amazing, but after that the layout it is just too rough and useless, and the only plus to this ride is the wait times, the longest I have waited is 10 mins, and on Monday's and Tuesdays when the park is dead, they are always running 3 train opps, which is rare, but still enjoyable because there is a lot of shade near the station.

  • @tsimmons626
    @tsimmons626 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve been saying for years how good of a fit this would be at Michigans Adventure. MA is an hour from my house and we only usually go there for a single day every other year, and mostly for the waterpark. Rougarou is a good ride and under appreciated at CP. It would fit SO nice at MA and cost much less than a ground up coaster, and compliment Thunderhawk (which I actually like) quite well. This would also free up space at CP for the next big thing. Michigans Adventure is a disappointment, there’s no way to sugar coat it, but Rougarou could give it a little bit of life support, and if they then decided to retrack ST and RMC Wolverine Wildcat, then they all of a sudden have a nice little regional park without a huge investment.

  • @michaelkucharski4251
    @michaelkucharski4251 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't think I would miss it. Cedar point doesn't need it anymore, and while it is one of the better floorless conversions it still feels a bit off, especially in the second half. It might actually have been better as Mantis in my opinion but that still wasn't good. For me its a bottom 3 coaster at cedar point, with corkscrew and cedar creek mine train being a contender for the worst. While it could be a good fit for Michigan's adventure and a couple of the other neglected parks, I think for most of the other cedar fair parks the millions it would cost to relocate it would likely be better spent on something else. Possibly if they move it somewhere else they can possibly can make it a 4 across surf coaster, and restore the original heartline profile.

    I’m a big B&M defender. No manufacturer is as consistently good as them.
    *But f(&k Rougarou.* This recycled stand up piece of s=$t is as rough as the current housing market.
    The final inversion snapped my head so hard against the restraints I seen stars. Not metaphorically, my vision was flashing for a good 2min. And everything before that wasn’t comfortable either.
    This ride is so much worse than corkscrew. Hell, I’d rather ride KD’s Anaconda again than this.
