Interesting detail that the X230T was shipped with a normal DisplayPort where the X230 / X230i were shipped with a mini DisplayPort. I sniped a regular X230 2 weeks ago for 120€ as my first laptop. It came in pristine condition with top specs (i7-3520M, backlight keyboard etc.). After replacing the thermal paste and a clean windows 10 install I upgraded it with a 500GB SSD, 128GB mSATA and 2x8GB DDR3L RAM. For a 10 year old laptop this thing runs like a demon, is super light and has battery life for hours. The only things I don't really like is the display and trackpad which are both really low resolution. But in terms of price / performance the X230 models are still relevant in 2023 for sure!
That is awesome and I am happy to hear you are enjoying the X230! It is too bad that there are no 1080p panels, but it is what it is. Still a solid laptop, I agree. I just did a similar review on the X240 if you want to check that out. Different aesthetics but similar performance.
Got the same model, also with multitouch! It was a pain to find one in the EU. Couple of notes: Instead of MS Paint, I would've showcased how the Wacom tablet and stylus work in Photoshop or GIMP, for sketches it's actually pretty good, the poor man's Cintiq. You can get the screen to auto-rotate when you flip it and close it in tablet mode by downloading a Lenovo driver specific for the X220T and X230T. For anyone considering running it as a daily driver, I suggest installing 1vyrain as a BIOS, it removes the whitelist for the wireless cards and allows for the installation of a modern Intel AX210 with WiFi 6e and bluetooth 5.3, futureproofing the machine. It also frees the connector where the bluetooth module is housed and it can be replaced with an internal USB 2.0 port for dongles and shit. It also allows to unlock the TDP and to overclock the Intel HD Graphics 4000 for marginally better gaming performances on older titles. That's about it.
I totally agree about GIMP or Photoshop, but I don't use either of them regularly and there is only so much time in the day. Cool BIOS trick, I am not aware. I would love to look into that next time I come into some more of these.
How much battery life does this laptop have? I'm thinking of getting me one, but I'd use it for college note taking and I'm a bit worried it won't last that long, keeping in mind one entire class can last up to 5 hours. Would you recommend it for this particular use?
Well, a good thing to note is that this is a 11 year old laptop. It would probably perform quite well for that use, but a battery that old probably won't hold a great charge. You might need to purchase a third party battery and then switch between the two. It's a gamble when buying used, but if the price is right I'd say go for it.
Well, to add a serial port you would either need a docking station or a USB to serial port adapter. You would have to check the specifications of either option.
Interesting, my stylus on x220t only works when screen is in default position(not rotated), no matter if I use windows or Linux. It seams that either x230t is upgraded to allow for rotation, or my x220t is slightly broken.
@@HaisteComputerRepair Tried different drivers and settings, and I'm also dual botting linux where I get the same problem. In unrotated screen the mouse moves normally when using stylus, but in any other orientation it floats in reversed way. If I move the stylus up mouse moves down etc.
Please, can you share your x230t Windows 10 driver? ! The buttons at the bottom of my x230t screen have never been activated and cannot be used! grateful!

hey same i am looking for one any good sites to find it?
8:09 that zombie is the dying light reference.
Like on the promo art for Dying Light?
It seems like dual channel ram really improve the performance.
My t480 is struggling with csgo with a single 8gb ram
Definitely go dual channel if you have the option!
csgo needs 8 threads or more on a modern CPU now for actual competitive performance

what's the slot behind one of the ramsticks for? if you remove the ramstick on the left, you'll see a slot there behind where the ram stick would be.

how long the battery life ?
Battery life will always depend on the quality/lifespan of a lithium ion battery. It will depend on how honest the person is that you are buying from.
