This CPU is not on the official Windows 11 list. If you are looking at something this old, I would look for the Intel variant as the CPU will be much better. To officially install Windows 11, you will need Intel 8th gen and up. For AMD it's Ryzen 2000 series and up. You can bypass the requirements and install Windows 11 on anything, but if you want to play it safe look for something within that range.

The Ryzen 5 4500 isn't the best performing CPU. It's very budget focused. Long story short, you would be better off running a Ryzen 5 3600X or if you have the budget look at prices for a Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X.

Being that you have to remove the plastic piece between the palmrest and the motherboard, you pretty well have to disconnect as you will not be able to reach the heatsink assembly otherwise. It's much less cumbersome to just disconnect, just make sure you remember where to put things back. Take pics or use my video as a guide.

If I happen to build with that combo again, for sure. Probably not soon, unless that hardware specifically comes my way.

I would say go for a Ryzen 5 5600X, AM4 B550 (PCIe 4.0) motherboard, and 3600MHz RAM if you can.

You could probably get by on low settings and lowered resolution, but this hardware is a bit long in the tooth for gaming like that.

For gaming I don't think you will notice much of a difference between the two, long story short. For rendering and editing, the 3060 has more VRAM, which does help. I would say go with the best deal and keep saving up for future upgrades.

@@aurobindonandi5064 I would say go with the 3060 if it looks to be in good working condition. Don't worry about the PCIe 3.0 right now, but keep in mind you can upgrade to a B550 motherboard with AM4 to get PCIe 4.0 speeds. The difference will not be that big, or at least not something to fixate on. You will be fine with the 550W PSU for now.

@@aurobindonandi5064 What currency is that in? Honestly, if you have a use for it and you have the budget I would just go for it. In the future, you can always sell that same 3060 to help fund the purchase of a new graphics card.

If the battery is in good condition I would imagine you would get several hours. Mileage varies with used batteries, though. So, it is best to manage expectations.

I did not know that. Every X230 I worked on or sold had that same logo. Perhaps I did read it at one time.

Do you have a fast internet package with your ISP? Apps or software running in the background while gaming? Set the settings to what you see in the video in Performance mode.

It's going to be hard to source 32GB DDR3 SODIMM. I got lucky a few times and had that amount preinstalled in some ThinkPads I ordered, but it's very expensive compared to the benefit you will get. I would stick to 16GB RAM or consider upgrading to a ThinkPad with a quad core or better CPU and DDR4 RAM options if you are wanting better performance.

If he doesn't need any files backed up, you could try just reinstalling Windows. Are you running a hard drive or a solid state drive?

It's specific for the T470 and T570 (probably another model thinkpad as well). My best recommendation would be to just look it up on eBay and check out the part number stickers on a listing that seems reputable

I believe you are limited to 2.5" SSD's

I don't think it would be a great experience in 2025, but maybe on lowest settings and low resolution.

I am thinking you would be able to manage 120+ fps at 1080p DX12 if you keep the settings at low. On the smaller display panel it still looks pretty good, I think.

This would not be a setup I would recommend playing higher end games on high settings. It's meant to be a budget setup for applicable games or starting out and then building upwards.

This is for the T61, not the R61. That likely accounts for the differences.

I totally agree. Updating to the 5600 would be a great idea. Also a AM4 B550 motherboard if you don't have one already, so you can have the added PCIe 4.0 speeds.

@HaisteComputerRepair I was thinking about b450m-K , personally I don't mind the pci-3, from what I heard from others, the difference is like 1 fps or something like that, I think this motherboard will still go strong for 5 more years or so, + it's way cheaper.

@HaisteComputerRepair like..this build runs cyberpunk without any problems on high settings, it would run every game out there if it wasn't for the bad optimizations..let's be honest, the devs got lazy af bc of dlls and fsr and all that ai bs.

This would be a solid upgrade from that 2 core 4 thread i5 7th gen CPU. I would stick with the AMD variant of the T14 gen 1 and gen 2 if you are looking at them.
