As a 80s kid, I was on the prime of RTSs! I can say that TA was one of me most underrated RTS, I love to see it reincarnated better than ever! Keep them coming please!
Indeed. And then its successor, PA, is also criminally underrated.
Played the hell out of it. If I remember correctly, TA basically invented stuff like CTRL X Shift X grouping of units and patrols and tons more. RIP Cavedog Entertainment
@@catbert7 I've kickstarted PA, but I never started to really like it. The units were a bit too much like popcorn and the planets aren't as awesome as I imagined them before the game was finished. But I am happy that PA does exist. It is a shame that their proposed game "Human Resources" did make the cut on Kickstarter (was their own fault though, PA wasn't even finished back then).

@@phero2 Not exactly, the first time you start seeing RTS with groups and later expanded upon was Warcraft, Starcraft, and Command and Conquer: Red Alert, then Total Annihilation. Supreme Commander really added nice management features in 2007.

Fighting the aliens in a tug of war style battle reminds me of Creeper World.
Me as well. I wish BAR also had the energy pole system like CW, it would fit the style very well and it would make the came more tactical as you could cut off armies from energy supply to kill them off more easily. That being said I still think BAR is awesome as it currently is.
@@krux02 That mechanic makes no sense since this is a successor to TA/SupCom, not a tower defense game. Although I think there's a mode like that.

You need about 2 normal fusions before having advanced fusion. Also, you should be having units patrolling the front at all times. If a wave goes through, that's it. Don't build defenses in your bases, build everything up front. Only anti air at the back coz they do go through more easily. And for the queen, since she gets immune quickly to a single weapon, variety is key.

@@masterlinktm It's just a rule of thumb. Most "pro" players will only build solars and wind turbines, perhaps some geothermal and ignore advanced solar, before building one normal fusion to get going, then a second, and that's usually when they have enough to build an advanced fusion with is really long to build. If you build it straight away it's too much of a commitment, too soon.

@@nicolasbertin8552 You make a really good point. To summarize... essentially t3 tech without enough t1 or t2 tech behind it is pointless. Either takes too long to build or too many resources to otherwise be spent on econ efficiency up OR pumping units. But like it's co-op against the chickens (raptors, ik). Maybe it matters against the harder AI and humans, but against the chickens? There's so many players and the overflow gets passed out (i highly doubt it's a 1:1 gain instead of "wasting", if it is 0% loss when sent to other players thats broken).

I do not think Winter knows enough yet to be making guides just yet. After all he is a bit of a perfectionist. So when we do get some guides from him, I am certain he will make them, they should be good.

I learned this today through trial and error lol. Figured I could have 6 AI allies during this game mode, but instead found it 6 times more difficult

Dammit man, if only they'd added the Orbital and Multi-Planetary stuff from PA this would be hands-down the best RTS. Incredible that a fan group did this much, though.

Do you know Zero-k? Very similar to beyond all reason, but with more focus on the commander (lots of upgrades). Even better command handling, map transformation and more focus on unit variety.
Well I wouldnt say its better. Its just a very similar but different game :D I enjoy both!
Both games use the same engine and and thus look slightly the same. The two games are even developed on different forks of the same repository
Zero-K is one of my favorite, if not my favorite RTS game.
And while I would love to see it getting at least a one-off from Winter, I don't think it'll scratch the same itch for him.
I think it's enough that he at least mentioned it in his overview video on the main channel.
5:15 a guy in chat said that you can double up on mex spots with teammates... you cannot. I went in and tested it with my brother. if there is a mex already place you can't place another on the same spot or around it, and even if you queue two of them on the same spot and gift one away it doesn't generate any metal.
I have been really enjoying this game. At some point, I will learn how to play it.
That feeling when your teammate's Calamity turns around and starts shooting at the raptors 3 feet from your base. You're real lucky it only destroyed a bunch of windmills.

I would like to see you do all of the single player "scenarios".
You can win a good few of them with Tick spam, which is hilarious but I find myself real bad at these games. Having a steady resource flow and the fact I'm just old enough to never have played Total Annihilation or C&C. I did try P.A. and it was awful and the devs overpromised and under delivered. Would also be really cool to see your solutions since there's so many branching paths down either unit spam (overwhelm with mass t1) or actually increasing tech level and playing the game using "strategy". You seem to have picked up on it pretty well seeing some of your content on the main channel. Might also double as a tutorial as each scenario teaches different things (or seems to intend on teaching lol) and your commentary on it might be fantastic. This game may just be the next RTS youtuber bait but I'm down to watch every video you put out on it. Plus it's FREE.

Gotta say! If you needed something to hold you over until Stormgate. BAR could be it!
Stormgate will probably be great but it will be a more of a micro-RTS, like Starcraft. TA, SupCom, PA, and BAR are the macro-RTS genre. Both sub-genres are fun but they do not replace one another. Hope he keeps casting and playing both.

against these raptors, the fire dragons maw works best (cortex) like it incinerates them higher level swarmers should be held back through walls and the fire will kill them

Great video, but why start air if there is nothing to surprise or fastly spand over the map? Wouldn't it be better to just start Bots and be bulding a ton of Nano towers to self escalate the fastest?
Maybe? Winter is still new to and learning BAR. He is bound to not be optimal.

@@masterlinktm mental converters convert energy to metal, so having an overflow of energy is what you need to have first before you build mental converters.

You should try Forged Alliance Forever. Prequel is also good if you wanted to stream the campaigns, but basically it's TA gameplay with more variety and asymmetry - 4 races, also.
I dont know why but this game reminds me of supreme commander 2...I couldnt get into it at all...
Bar seems to suffer from the early SC2 issue of the early game is very slow. It would be interesting to see some experimentation like having the nearest x extractors to your commander auto captured on start or limit the early building to a certain amount of energy/metal that is built instantly upon start.
If I may, There is options within the lobby settings to enhance this, such as allowing each commander to have a pre-built Assist drone, like we see in the video here. One of *Many things that are adjustable.. I.E. enhancing build power e.t.c
Or the Zero-K way, where you get your first factory for free with a 'plop' instant build
Bar is extremely fast paced in smaller player counts/maps
that is purely a settings issue. 1V1 can be very active from minute 1, if you go frontline you see more action, raptors giving you a 5 min preparation phase is by no means a fault of the game, it's just the selected game mode. Winter also chose to hard scale his eco on this one, so of course what he does here is mostly eco. If you want to see very early and fast paced micro battles over small advantages, I recommend checking out 1v1

Try this. Set raptor spawn box to cover entire map. Set spawn area avoid player. Disabled T2 T3 unit. Economy multiplier x3, build power multiplier x3. Disable assist drone and commanderbuilder. Add team 3 and scav AI. Disable purple smoke. Set scav box entire map. Fight horde using horde, capture beacon for high tier units but uncontrollable.
the mechanics look on point. Shame that it looks really ugly
