This game was included with one of my dads PCs. We used to play this together alot.. he even got an expensive racing steer for this game.. Game over dad, game over..
Very impressive for it's time... The most impressive part, has to be the way the game does the elevation changes. And true to Nelson Piquet Sr., it does make driving in the streets of Monaco look like trying to ride a bicycle inside of a house.
Lucky guy then. I always played with keyboard, untill GP4!!! And it's interesting, how i was always very quick in Monaco, on "GP" and now days, with a gamepad in PS4 "Sims", i really suck, on this track!!
i'm trying to use a, z, :, ;and space to shift and i can't cordinate my hands. How did you do the problem is when i use space for shifter that i don't know wich finger i've to use haha
Monaco was always hard in GP2, partly because the wheels weren't part of the cockpit view. I also remember the gearing meant that nearly every corner was taken in first! Great days!
I loved this game when I was little! In fact, I had a steering wheel to play it with. It was so cool! Something that truly bothers me even to this day is that track, "Pacific", on the course list. It was one of my favorite tracks and I still don't know which circuit it was meant to look like...
@Droopyl33 The video is made from a replay, and when running the replay, recording the video, the graphics was turned up to maximum. I think I did the video with DOSBox on Windows XP in 2009. I tried to configure DOSBox so the replay run in real time as much as possible, but I did not spend too much time on it.
The game looks very much like Monaco Grand Prix Racing Simulation 2 on Dreamcast (textures, sound, aesthetic). I wonder if Micropose made a deal with Ubisoft to share some assets.
1:20.230-1:18.560 are Michael Schumachers pole position setting Q1 and Q2 times from the 1994 Monaco Grand Prix (which is featured in this video.) So pretty damn realistic for 1996 considering this record is a 1:13:979.
quite good but was it the original game at 100% ? without any add-ons ? And what was the type of computer(processor) ? I have the impression that there are more frames per second than on my computer so it could be easy to go faster...
It's not me driving. My best back then was 1:14.4. You can always get faster at a track. Just do more laps. How are you able to drive that old game now?
Yes, I've just dug up a Pentium II with WIn 98 some week ago, just to play again to GP2! I control the game via a Thrustmaster formula T2. My fast laps on each track are about 1'' to 3'' faster than the game (original 1994 levels) which is not so bad I guess. I'm working a lot on the car setups, but then I reach a point and I don't know how to go faster.
Awesome!!! You can download replays here www.grandprix2.de/hotlap/GP2NoHelpHotlaps/gp2nhh.html , then just watch a replay, and after watching then the setup used in the replay is your setup. I don't remember exactly how to get a replays setup, but it should be something like above. The problem with hotlap setups is that they are optimized for the driver's driving technique, so if you don't work your wheel, gas and brake the same way as the driver who developed the setup, then it could be undriveable. I think my setups are driveable, though :-) . I have a couple of replays on that site above.
oh my goodness!! I will watch the replays as soon as possible and try the setups. Yes I know what you mean, each person has his hown driving style. The problem is that I still use steering help (but not opposite lock help) and i think there is the big difference.I tried to drive without steering help and it seems it is quite impossible for me...
@@Bartospeed 5 seconds sounds a lot of diference... I made my lap going tonrhe limit all the time... In interlagos for example what was your best? I made 1.15.229

The setup is just perfectly adjusted for the simulated car and the track. With a different engine, it would not be advantageous to use 6 gears for just 90 km/h (280-190). But here it is... For example, the 2019 pole lap: th-cam.com/video/Ej8n56fkgWY/w-d-xo.html That's a lot of gear changes as well... :-)

The simulation too

I don't dare to remember how many hours, i spent on this!!
Osprey11 I drove it with wheels and pedals, Thrustmaster, and so did Ian who put down this amazing lap.

The real F1 today doesnt sound as good as this... So sad

I remember many drivers saying that they didn't like that circuit as it was originally designed for motorbike racing.
Wow, game looks very good, the track detail, and the animations in the replay. And it was released in '96, holy shit. I was in kindergarten in 96. 0_o
Incredible driving.
Indeed, it is. Thank you.
those were the McLaren best colors ever

From the cockpit I thought it was a Minardi
Apexspeed at St.devot 173 km/h.
My car always broke down at Monaco while leading. If I was in the middle of the field or dead last the car had no issues. Go figure.
Best game for its time
1:06 ouch block
No, it's not automatic gears. Automatic gears were incredibly slow in Grand Prix 2.
great game - great drive-ayrton forever
@SpiralPegasus, a quick google on "pacific grand prix" will give you - Tanaka International Aida circuit (now Okayama International Circuit).
That was no keyboard run :P (But where did all that lag come from..?)
Great throwback and lap!
Great Time, dammit
You beat me with a lightyear difference ;-)
Well, actually it's the creation date of the replay file, so it should be correct. You create the file right after you've done the lap.
173 km/h in the first corner? second gear at 190 km/h ?? this is too weird
yes it is, even 2 years later
Ted Bang would be proud...

I should've asked google first.

Someone play this in logitech G27 wheel? How can I calibrate the wheel in the game? I tried but i didn't make it

It's Aida
Cockpit view is a Benetton...
There was only 1 cockpit view during the entire lifetime of Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix series.
MK3424 As far as I can remember the cockpit’s rims had different colors on each car in GP2.
Yeah but each cockpit rim matched the car you drove. A simple colour palette swap.

Smallest gear ratio ever.
The time is not real, was impossible to make less than 1.18....
A lot of drivers back then did well below 1.18. Maybe you drove with the automatic gear shifter? It was known to be very slow.

automatic gears, shame!
Nope. Automatic gearbox was deactivated.
