The 2nd story is the perfect example of why parental punishment should be encouraged instead of frowned upon Weak parenting creates weak and bratty people.
Depends on how you define "parental punishment". If it's just grounding or something along the lines then it's fine, but corporal punishment has been scientifically determined to be the cause of many psychological issues further in life.

I personally believe that upbringing can heavily determine the person you become. My parents did give me gifts whenever I did something good as a kid, but when I stepped out of line, they let me have it, spanking and grounding being chief among the punishments I received. Because of that, as an adult, I can determine right from wrong, and know to respect people's wishes and boundaries.
I think when growing up it's both Factors, my older half-sister was raised by my Dad (he is a extremely good and selfless man) and she can be a really good person like him. But there are a very rare few times when she is a selfish asshole towards our Mother and she says my sister gets that from her dad who was also very selfish.
It really pains me when you have someone with discipline tactics but the other parent is submissive to the child while dominating against their spouse. What makes it worse is one such couple the mother started looking at ADHD as early as 2 years old when Toddlers are Toddlers. She didn't discipline the behaviour but instead played the keep them quiet routine. At times I noticed my Cousin, the father, embraced the Time Out routine which worked. Couple of years later at my younger cousins wedding he tries to stop them from playing while eating but she intervenes and it becomes a bit of an awkward situation on that side of the table. It was better when they went out after dinner to use some energy.
That stupid, entitled family in the first family! How dare they take over OP's house and not leave when he needs them to! Good riddance indeed! Glad he easily got rid of them for good.
In my personal opinion Petunia deserves jail for not just stealing the cats that are essentially her surrogate sister's babies but for essentially taking them to a shelter to have them put down ie killed for no reason as well as giving death threats to the poor furballs because seriously those cats did not deserve to be essentially kidnapped I mean it's wrong taking someone's pets away when the owner loves said pet as if they were their own child makes it even worse as in their mind it's like child adduction
