Thanks for the rundown Dave, I will say I'm glad I made the decision to get Softube Console 1 mixing system along with my Faderport 16.... they all work great together with my UA Apollo X4 and Studio One 5....
I am glad I was able to help you with the decision making process. Everyone's workflow is different and its great we have lots of choices with all the gear that is now available.
They probably figure we don't "need" the frequencies on the GUI since they're on the scribble strip, but I definitely agree with preferring to see them in both places
You've done a really great job with the functional description. Once I got the thing at home, I was really pissed off. $1300 for what? I'm still trying to answer that one. 360 is very cool, but what's the point? I can handle a mouse/trackball and shortcut keys much faster the fooling around for this thing. Now, the UC1 is an entirely different matter. I love it. But the 360 software ... idunno. Maybe your next video will show me the advantage to the UF8. If I could sell it I would.
Yea, surface controls units are not for everyone and some people find it faster with a mouse and keyboard. For me, its more about a good plugin controller than anything else. Unfortunately, no one yet has made the ideal plugin controller.
UF8 is good for me, don’t have to remember a ton of shortcuts with multiple key combinations instead a single button action now. Faders are way better than using a mouse to click/drag values up/down plus more precise. Being able to look down on the UF8 and not having to even look at your DAW is huge advantage, combined with the UC1 can mix without my monitor on all by ear. Automating parameters with UF8 also is so much better than without out. Many more advantages over mouse/keyboard in my opinion
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasythe best plug-in controller design would be the Akai MPC actually, it’s all touch screen and V Pots. Only thing they missed was a physical fader other than that it seems like a good implementation to follow
Uncle Dave, any idea why my tracks in 360 are a totally different order to the tracks in my daw? I am using Luna and ssl is first instance on daw tracks? I’ve looked on internet for quite some time and can’t find a thing. I am sending tracks to group busses as I learnt in your course. I don’t know if one puts ssl on those. Don’t know if you’ve heard of this bug?!?
hi Dave another good video. The UF8 with the SSL 360 software looks so unneccessarily convoluted and slow. Remembering which Layer which Quick Key just looks cumbersome. I agree about scrolling the 360, that was better in v1.3, they had a zoom in out function so you could see the entire channel. Depending on your monitor resolution the v1.4 360 can be fully viewed on a 1440p or 4k monitor but not on a 1080p monitor. SSL could fix this by having a collapse/expand all button next to the Dynamics and EQ section so that you don't have to keep scrolling. They could make the GUI better as well. Look at all that wasted space just above the fader. I'll stick with using the 360 with my touchscreen as its direct interaction.
I agree with you! I think the 360 software is a good idea but needs work. I think it could be very useful at one point. Let's see if they provide any updates in 2023
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasyhi Dave. SSL have released a new 360 update, version 1.7 now comes with an additional plugin called Link, it's a VST wrapper that now allows you to use VST3 plugins mapped to the SSL hardware. I don't throw this term able often but this is a game changer. 360 now works amazingly with my touch screen monitor. I'd encourage you to take a look at 360 1.7 if you still have the SSL controllers

Boom , just like that uncle Dave day.
I'm here...LOL
Hey Dave, great video. BTW the EQ Frequencies are shown on UF8 in yellow on the channel display when you're in Plugin Mixer mode!
yes, yes. correct!
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy and curiously, the channel knob on the UC1 does select the relevent channel in the plugin mixer 😁

Not sure. It's probably a Luna thing.
How would you compare this to the FaderPort… especially with Ableton Live or Luna?
no idea. I dont use either of those DAW's
