I had the privilege of seeing Leon Redbone and Dan Levinson in concert at the Roxy theater in northampton PA around 1994. Leon lived in Bucks county and used to play a fair number of shows in the eastern PA area and was well known and adored. The Northampton show actually took place during an ice storm and the theater, already sold out, was without a single empty seat such was the love for his talent. The performance was magic. I've never seen a better show, and I only regret I never caught another one of his live shows.
The way he created an atmosphere was magical. The banter with the audience and band, the clothes, the manner of presentation, the music, they all combined to take you out of the present and into some comfortable mythic American past. A genuine master and a genius performer.
Leon was a unique character on and off the stage. Very underrated and always entertaining. Say hello to Louis , Jerry Roll and Fats Waller. We'll miss you.
One of the things I love best about these live performances is seeing how much Mr. Redbone genuinely enjoyed the music. There's a joy to his playing that you don't always see. He really got a kick out of the music he was performing.
I’m so thankful that I got to see him twice in redkey Indiana in the early 2000’s at the redkey palace theater ! He had said on Johnny Carson that redkey was one of his favorite places to play.
You my good man, are a National Treasure. From Vancouver, down to Miami. From Diego to Maine, Toronto downta Baton Rouge. You made us smile, and understand our self worth. Sure am gonna miss knowing your here sir.

now Leon R´s a gent who brings a historic musical living room acousticly ticklin with big band at the back of the mind...no Madonnas ever done that...nor MTVs plugged or not...Thank you very much for sharing this!
WHO'S GONNA CARRY ON? Now that Redbone's gone and Jimmy Rogers died back in 1933, who's gonna carry on that New Orleans jazz sound? There's no one left! That's what I liked about Leon--his Jimmy Rogers New Orleans jazz sound.
Mr. Redbone, you have been my favorite musician and performer for more years than I care to count. I don't know if you read these posts, but I wish to simply say that you've brought many smooth moments to my life. Great songs. Great selection of musicians. Great arrangements. And your classic voice, bringing back memories and history. Wishing you the best in your retirement to the Lazy River. If you ever are out on the West Coast, my home is yours. Good whisky and cigars on the porch of a rural mountain cabin.
This is a wonderful take, thanks for sharing this, it's like having him in my backyard, putting this on at home. And they play, and he sings and sobs, so good! His voice really at his best, despite coughing and grunting, the layback setting...wish I was there!
Marvelous performance, Leon. You're always surrounded by such versatile and talented musicians. Thank you for sharing this show featuring so many songs I've never heard you play. We wish you a long, healthy, and happy retirement. Thanks for the many years of entertainment you've provided. Hopefully you'll be able to post other great shows.
It's sad that our culture doesn't push more legends and one-of-a-kind, unbelievably talented, unique people like Leon front and center, instead of people like Niki Manaj and their ilk. If anyone deserved to be filthy rich and famous it was Leon.
The name of the venue is Duke Island Park, and it's about two miles from my house. Somehow I didn't know this gig happened! Saw him a few years later in Rahway NJ and he was amazing.
Never have I seen a performance of yours that I did not enjoy to the fullest! Thank you very much for sharing. Enjoyed your music for many, many years.
Love to listen to you...especially If I could Be With You (one hour tonight)...your whistling is incredible...sorry I was never able to see you perform in person...would love to have met you...if you are ever in the Southeastern part of Pa (near E. Norriton) it would be a pleasure to meet you...all the best in your retirement...
i love leon and have done for many a year, when artist play at venues like this its open season for dissenters, its a bit like someone telling you what you are going to eat rather than asking what you want to eat "bon appetitte"
Im a huge fan of Mr. Redbone and have been since the 80s. So wish I would of saw him before he retired a couple years ago. Anyways,in your track listing the missing #4 track is "Goodbye Charlie Blues"
Hard to believe that this maybe the ONLY full length filmed concert of Mr Redbone.

Style, Leon Redbone Had style! Damn I miss that basted. The definition of smooth.

Revisiting this on the 21st anniversary of the gig. What a masterful performance.

Glad you enjoyed it!
I loved to hear him whistle!
@ 35:30 ❤
He was the best!!!
Leon Redbone is STILL awesome.;)
The great Dave Le Long pointed me in the great Redbone’s direction. Thank you Dave, I owe you a pint
The great Vince Giordano on tuba, string bass, and bass sax. The equally great Jon-Erik Kellso on trumpet and Dan Levinson as well on reeds.
He kept alive the music from the past before he was born, and did a great job at it. I saw him live once in the early 70's, I think in Bryn Mawr PA
He was centuries old even then.
Like a fine whiskey
I wish I had seen him play live, i should have tried harder. Absolute legend ❤
He died in Bucks County PA but nobody seems to know where he’s buried. Of if he was buried at all.
Yup. He lived in New Hope.
Where was I when all this was going on?

Thank you so much for uploading this. These videos mean so much more now that he has retired from performing.
The name of the venue is Duke Island Park, and it's about two miles from my house. Somehow I didn't know this gig happened! Saw him a few years later in Rahway NJ and he was amazing.
RIP Leon.
R.I.P. Maestro.
I saw this man and Tom Waits in a very small performance at a conference room of a Holiday Inn, what stupid luck.
I have seen them both about 40 years ago here in Western Massachusetts. Both men put on truly unforgettable shows.
@@markopolo244 That's when I saw them but in Shererville, IN, a suburb of Chicago.
yes this is the real stuff⭐️
one needs to be lucky☘️☘️☘️
I LOVE THE SOUND, REMINESME OF THE 40s
Never have I seen a performance of yours that I did not enjoy to the fullest! Thank you very much for sharing. Enjoyed your music for many, many years.
"The stain lifter, that's All." Leon is a national treasure. Even tho he hawked laundry soap, at least he did so with STYLE!
Needed to make a living.
It's worth it: he got to continue recording music for us to enjoy!

How wonderful this audience had the chance to be there for this. Would be good to have the video taken from in front of the audience though.
this is great !

#10 is Police Dog Blues (although understandable if you didn't recognize it!)
Much Love...
💖💖💖💖💖💖
Does anyone know the name of the song that he whistles? I’ve heard it before, many moons ago, but just can’t remember what it is.
RIP Mr. Redbone. sadface.
Some songs are played twice on this recording.
Im a huge fan of Mr. Redbone and have been since the 80s.

Anyways,in your track listing the missing #4 track is "Goodbye Charlie Blues"
Do you meant track 5?
Leon Redbone Tribute Channel sorry..... yes,i meant track 5
❤
🎶😎👌
Are there ghosts playing the tuba? (or whatever the bass brass instrument is?) There seem to be instruments on stage with no one playing them?
Ah he's standing behind it, caught a glimpse at 7:30 ish
His musicians are on stage with him.
And the name of that Polka is ?
redbone
Polka Dziadek, A Hupfata, Dziadunio Polka, Vanaisa polka, Grandpa Polka, The Clarinet Polka
Why aren’t folks up dancing??
think i saw this guy in new orleons
thats probably the ugliest stage with probably the best musicians on it
Love the performance but I could do without the audience talking and carrying on.
Ben Goff It adds Character.
Terrible camera operator!
Barking dogs and roaring motorcycles for backup. What a horrible venue for a great artist.
