I drove OTR 4 years, seen a few bad truck accidents where drivers didn't make it. It's not a game out there. If you like to be on your phone, in my opinion you shouldn't be a truck driver. I've been driven lowboy & end dump for 8 years. It don't matter if I use chains & or straps , after I go a few miles, I pull over & some times they are loose. After tieing down then you go a few miles or so the load settles in & you load securement devices loosen up. Another pointer is watch you straps - chains in your merrors .Also when you do you PTI ( pretrip inspection) check you , also after you fuel do a walk around kick - check your tires, load , load securement as well. Good luck out there new drivers ,drive safely & keep the shiny side up & the nasty dirty one down.
Man you’re so calm and great as a trainer. I love the way you use the flip, tuck, thumb, chop & karate chop, makes so much easier to remember. Thank you sir
Thank you, are you going through the training now?
I just graduated on December 12th w/ class A & hazmat and tanker end. . Looking for a company now to work with.
@@Psycho--il4gs you’re looking for flatbed?
I will be starting Flat Bed trucking with Trans Systems in about 10days or so and I am a 47 year old woman. I can only hope I get a trainer as thoughtful and as well suited for training as you are!! I am super excited.
@@lapdogg thank you for your kind words and you’re going to do just fine. I’m not familiar with that company, but I’m sure you’ll be able to excel in whatever you put your mind to.
That's one thing iv never done is twist my straps but I see lots of drivers do it. Amazing how many different ways people secure their loads.
Super true!!
I start orientation Dec 11th. I hope I get a trainer like you. You are good at what you do and appear patient. God bless.
Thank you and I try to be as patient and understanding as I possibly can, and my students generally do very well
I got my Class A permit and applied with Swift to see what they have to offer. They have a terminal located 45 minutes away from my house. I'm seriously thinking about leaving law enforcement. I always appreciate your content.
Seattle WA and Portland OR are losing lots of cops. $100K+ with beautiful green surroundings, if you're into that type of thing. Ooh ya, plenty of ridiculous liberals however.
Swift was a great choice for me and you will do fine.
@ 1MinuteFlipDoc no amount of money is worth being a cop in any Liberal run city lol!
TMC would be good for you.
Good to see you still helping train good driver's 50!
I’m definitely giving it a try
Good stuff here. Exellent trainer.
Great stuff! I’m currently at the end of week two of orientation/ securement training. Had the honor of watching Melton’s Veterans Day ceremonies today. Looking forward to going out with a trainer next week!
I really hate to miss that ceremony I did see a new veterans decorate a truck out in the parking lot. Hopefully I’ll get to see you before you leave out with a trainer
I’ll tell you that what you learn in Melton orientation is basically useless. When you get on a trainer truck, they’re going to show you their way. Only reason I say this is because I’m currently on a trainer truck we had a load just like this and I was told to not put twists in the straps… just get through orientation and training and do what works for you brother.
@@christerry3946 Just keep in mind, there’s more than one way to skin a cat and you’ll find which way works best for you
Great video! Thanks for the demonstration and be safe fellas!
Thank you very much
Just subscribed. First vid I've seen of Mr 50... I'm liking it 👍🏻
Thank you 🙏🏾 very much so much more to come
It’s like music to you lol I can dig your training!
Thank you
Thank you so much
Good video! I learned a couple things. Thanks!
Thank you for watching and I’m glad to hear it helped you
Awesome work! Gettin it done 💪🏼
Glad to see another awesome upload!!!!
Thanks for sharing!
#Awesome
Thank you very much
like your style of training Sir.
Some states require you to put the straps inside the rub rail. If something was to side swipe your trailer your straps are toast. Otherwise good video. I do my straps a bit differently. I’ve been driving for over 20yrs now and never seen it done this way. I’m from Illinois and they will ticket you for your straps not being inside the rub rail. I was also taught that a twist in your straps will weaken the strap. To each their own. I’m not knocking you’re technique, I just do it differently. Be safe out there driver.
I really enjoy experience drivers who have a different concept and it’s extremely appreciated. I agree with you on the placement of the straps and I didn’t get it why our company wants us to do it that way, but I follow the rules and teach it the way they want. Also, hooking the strap beneath the trailer lets the tarps ride much better than Putting the straps on the rub where because it pushes the tarps outside the rail gap and allows air to get in.
Get it Cape Coral!
Nice job!
Wow this video is helpful with learning how to use the straps
Good stuff 💯 👏 👍 💯🤜🤛
Thank you very much
I have a question. Forgive me if this is a dumb question. Wouldn't it be safer to have the metal end of the strap on the outside of the rub rail? That way if something does end up rubbing against the side of the trailer, it's not risking cutting a strap? Also at 7:56, the strap has a twist going into the winch. Doesn't that make it easier for that strap to come loose? That winch right over that trailer tire seems like a disaster waiting to happen as well. If that tire blows for whatever reason, it's gonna annihilate that winch and then you got a loose strap and if you hit a bump or some uneven ground and the trailer dips in that direction, your risk the winch cutting into that tire.
All good questions,
I don’t like straps on the rub rails at all but that’s policy so I do it.
Twisted straps going into the winch doesn’t effect the Safty of the set up at all. I will sometimes do that to put a twist in the strap to prevent vibration.
If a tire blew many things can happen but a tire causing damage to the straps or winch really isn’t likely. Possible but not likely.
If I hit a bump on hole so big it would collapsed the airbags to a point the tire will make contact with a winch I have bigger problems for sure. What really happens is guys pulling off before the trailer bags fill the the tire can rub.
I’m going through the application process as we speak
Let them know you with me. Let me know if I can help you
@@50plustrucker I’ll mention your name
Each bundle does NOT need 2
But it can’t hurt
Why the twist in the strap in general. I was always taught to have the strap straight cause the twist can cause it to loosen
The twist is to prevent the straps from vibrating in the wind
This looks hard🤣
It probably took him a few times for before become real good at even when I worked at a casino doing security work my trainer taught the more you do the more you get better
I thought the straps were not supposed to go on the outside of the rug rail for the protection of the straps from being damaged or cut. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I thought I was told in the past.
I guess either way is fine it’s just personal preference
Every time he gets to the end of the strap he is flipping it over twisting it.
Sorry I didn't read all the comments, but what's up with the outside the rub-rail... Thought this was a no-no...?
You would think so but that’s the way Melton wants it
You dont roll the straps up the other way? So if it doesnt make the throw it will unroll
Definitely yes but right now we’re just learning the basics and this is a short load. If the loads are tall, definitely do it the way you’re suggesting.
I heard melton made it to where your trainee has to be with you the full 3 weeks now no matter what
I’ve never heard that but if I find it’s true I will let you know
Case by case basis. We have rehires and fast trackers in my class. Some are going straight to a truck, some are going to a trainer.
@@citizenspeed yup just gotta be careful about that hearsay
Yes sir, I agree 👍🏾
@@citizenspeed makes sense because I’m with a trainer at the moment and he said I a fast learner to the point where I will only need 2 weeks… but other told me other wise
You didn't show what you did on other side of trailer
Thanks for watching my friend, did you watch the entire video? If I can answer any questions I will be happy to share with you.
Estan chuekos los estrapas
Maverick transportation > Melton
Excellent choice either way
I'm starting orientation end of the month. Can I request you for a trainer?
Just let them know and maybe it will work out but you have to at least let them know
Why do the straps need a twist?
Cuts down on vibration from wind 💨
@@50plustrucker i thought it added to it.
Putting the straps on the outside of the rail is bad, it could get cut
That’s a real possibility
Don't twist yr straps
Why not
Bro can you be my trainer
Are you coming over to Melton?
Yes I'm here now I got one more week
But I want you to be my trainer if you can
@@dieselwaynetv1358 The only thing you can do is request and if everything works out it’s going to happen but you do need to let them know that you would like to ride with me
Cool thanks man
Huge wast of time strapping like that
Maybe but don’t forget this is a part of a learning process. It definitely gets easier and quicker but you have to teach a concept before you can teach speed if you wanna be a successful teacher.
Wtf are you teaching?? Bro, you dont need to hook the strap under the rail, then throw it, just throw it then hook it, you dont even need a twist on a low load like that. Man, you made that so painful to watch, he is going to have bad pain quick because you arent showing him how to work smarter. I respect Melton drivers, but man this could be better.
Thank you for your insight
Sir you are no trainer!!! Your methods are a joke
To each their own.
You haven't watched the video then. I learned a lot and I was just watching...
@@JP090210 thank you very much for your response, I really appreciate you
The only thing meltin at melton is your work ratio to pay😂 Sht for all that work a. to 5 job pays the same. Get your own authority or owner operator or forget it. These big companies take advantage of poor people.
Yea worked there for 2 years and yea ain’t worth it. Not trying to get sued here but MELTON ain’t really what it’s cracked up to be. For a starter company yea ok but if u even have 6 months of experience u will be getting used and abused
