most color does this, it's called a warm red, because it's leaning toward orange. colors are entirely perceived by how our eyes perceive light reflected off surfaces, none of them are ever really a perfect primary color, and it's very hard to achieve, and even if you do, people tend to see an off color and not exactly what you see. Also computers and cameras don't relay colors exactly, they only relay the reflection of light onto the recording, and our eyes have to complete the image when we look at that rendition, with only that light and any light in that room as reference, but also including the blue light mixed in from our phones and screens and any surrounding light or sunlight, and thats a lot of light reflecting off one image into our eyes, there's almost no way it's the exact color she was seeing, to her it's probably not nearly as orange until she attempts to mix it with cyan. A lot of people will argue that a very reddish orange is totally red, because they just don't catch the subtle difference with their eyes and they can't see a difference that minute, but some of us can. The red is red, but it's a very warm red that leans orange instead of true neutral red which would be very hard for people in factories mass producing it to achieve, they probably went with whatever was the easiest and closest to a vibrant red in quality control, and didn't care if it leans orange and can't make purple with blue since blue leans away from orange in all cases. Also why you can't mix it into cuan, a green blue color, and get purple, it's like mixing orange with green.
It really is an orangish-red. She said that you can't obtain red with the food colorings unless you buy it but that's not true. If you mix yellow and magenta in more or less equal amounts you should have a pretty decent red. Keep in mind this video uses the same colors as a printer: CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key for black) so if your printer can make red so can you! The rest is just some experimenting. Take this as a reference for more or lees equal amounts of each: Cyan and Yellow make green Yellow and Magenta make red Magenta and Cyan make blue If you want to make purple you just add a bit more magenta to the blue. If you want to make orange you just add a bit more yellow to your red. That's how color theory goes in painting and printing.

I thought the fading was due to a loss in moisture, but light sensitivity makes so much sense. I use Americolor gel colours and I noticed the True Red and Forrest Green colours fade - I'll mix it, roll it, finish my cake, and come back later to a duller, paler cake. If you're putting a sheen coat over the fondant it brings the colour depth back, but you can't have a matte finish at that point. I never thought of flavouring fondant, I've been making marshmallow fondant from scratch (ie, melting gelatin and sugar, blending to fluffy marshmallow texture then adding powered sugar) to control the flavour, but mixing peppermint essence into fondant is such a great idea. It would be so hard to mix in the bag, it would take so much longer.. if you are really concerned about colour getting on your hands, you can always use gloves. This video is gorgeously done. Super impressive. The one color you didn't mention that I find super, super helpful is champagne. You can add it to just about any other color to make it less vibrant. I tend to like a lot of pastels, but to make them look more Laduree and less "It's a girl!" I find myself adding champagne to a lot of my fondant/icing/gum paste/whatever. It's the easiest way to add depth, richness, and complexity to just about any color. It's also very subtle and very neutral, so it's pretty difficult to really screw up any given color you're working on. It's also a very useful color on it's own. I tend to like it when I'm doing anything white on white. If you add just a tiny bit it creates a really nice, subtle contrast, say, for a basket weave with multiple textures, or if you want to add a center to flowers. You get the effect of white on white, but with more depth. It's my favorite, favorite, favorite gel paste color.
Your videos have seriously upped my baking game, especially cakes. My nieces and nephew now specifically request my cakes for birthdays! Thank you so much!

Hi Ann, the red color being different and fading is the same with colors for printing media (papers, magazines, posters etc.) When I was young I studied graphic design and the printer guy learned me a few tricks. On print there are tiny dots (called Raster) and the print media are angled in different degrees - cyan is 15, magenta is 75, yellow 0 and black is 45 degrees angled. If you want a vibrant red color, the magenta plate should be switched with the cyan (the angled degrees). It may seem like it doesn't work, but it actually does. Most supermarket adds are printed like this, because we tend to prefer meat that looks red.
I agree that this is the VERY BEST colour mixing video I have ever seen, and that is a lot. Very Cleverly animated, beautifully presented and easy to understand. Your in depth knowledge is wonderful. Thank you for sharing. I will now check out your website and other videos.
Yeah that "red," is definitely more orange than red, which is why it made that brown colour with the blue (when complimentary colours mix they make that grey/brown colour). And I thought I'd point out that a primary red (not the store bought/ready-mixed stuff) would make a purple, which is why the pink works better. Oh btw, loved the video! That stop motion must've taken ages 😂.
@@usele22_reptile69 th-cam.com/video/NVhA18_dmg0/w-d-xo.html Educate yourself and don't believe the lies that are passed down to you... it's magenta, cyan, and yellow.
@@gimygaming8655 Primary red is more of a pink. Vermillion probably is the standard red you'd normally think of, again more orange than red. No clue how blue isn't a primary colour though, obviously the normal primary colours are blue, red and yellow, and the primary colours of light are blue, red and green (light works differently to physical colours, if that makes any sense? Like red light + green light = yellow light, but if those were paints it would just be brown because they're complimentary colours).
@@usele22_reptile69 if you mixed cyan, magenta and yellow you wouldn't end up with a dirty muddy brown right off the back. You didn't even watch the link.... your reply confirms that.

When I was making a Thomas the tank cake for my nephew the blue fondant faded over the hour of the party. It didn’t fade a lot but it faded just as much as the progel one
These videos are always so thorough and well made. It shows how much effort goes into each of the videos over top of all the baking. Hats off to you for doing that Ann. xo
Why would you ask a non-muslim a question about muslim beliefs? Ask a scholar who has studied & practiced islam for more than 10 years. These are the people who you should seek when you have question regarding islam or muslims. And to answer your question, no, muslims can't consume octopus.
The reason why red doesn't make purple with cyan is because cyan isn't blue. Pink is to cyan as red is to blue, which is why pink works I would still use pink and cyan as your base colors though, they're brighter and more pigmented so you'll have less of a chance to get a muddy color. Or maybe there's another reason why Ann recommended them instead. I know how colors work on paper but not fondant 😅
Juusan013 I don’t get why she says you can’t get red, since printers use yellow and magenta to make red, and she shows how to make orange by using more yellow than magenta.
There are a number of reasons red doesn't really work, for mixing, or why it's difficult to get an attractive bright or deep pink with red coloring. 1. Most red dyes skew towards brown. Adding brown tones to red makes it look richer and like what we think of when we think red. Most things that look like a super intense red have strong hints of other colors. 2. You want to mix colors with the same intensities. When people think of a primary yellow they think of Big Bird or canary yellow. When they think of a primary blue they usually think of something a shade or two lighter than royal blue. Royal blue and canary yellow aren't really the same intensity as red, even if it's a pure red. Magenta is roughly that intensity. There are other reasons, but those two are the simplest.
Adding my comment so the algorithm recommends your channel & videos more. You put in so much work to your videos and they're always such a delight to watch! You definitely deserve more recognition
Why don’t you just take Yellow, red, blue, black and white Then you have all the base colours Red and white make PINK And then you don’t have to by the pink food color

I will now check out your website and other videos.
4:35 the 1ml dye foundant looked like tomatos 🍅 lmao 😂
Finally an artist that knows the true primary colors!
Are you getting your daily mold?
Yeah that "red," is definitely more orange than red, which is why it made that brown colour with the blue (when complimentary colours mix they make that grey/brown colour).
And I thought I'd point out that a primary red (not the store bought/ready-mixed stuff) would make a purple, which is why the pink works better. Oh btw, loved the video! That stop motion must've taken ages 😂.
That's because red and blue aren't primary colors
@@gimygaming8655 yeah they are

Educate yourself and don't believe the lies that are passed down to you... it's magenta, cyan, and yellow.
I love your hand writing Ann
😁
Good Job, I know I'm late because at first it says, the video is unavailable, Owner has kept it private.
This woman can be my school teacher and I won't tire going to school everyday 😁 she's very optimistic and light. Her voice can make a boring rock look interesting.
Hi Ann this video is going to be very helpful! I’m really excited I have my first shift of work tomorrow!!! I also have a friends bday party and it’s supposed to be a pool party but it’s freezing so I don’t if we will be swimming haha I hope you had a good week❤️❤️❤️
And here I was thinking that I knew about color theory and mixing.
This video is AMAZING! The explanations are great, you give us the exact quantities of everything, it is so useful!
AND the stop-motion animation you did there with the different fondant-parts and the mixing made it soooo much cooler! I love it!
Love this video Ann how you and the fam keeping ? Bit of a storm here in Ireland till u next video lots of love from Ireland Seamus xx
This video is so great! I’ve been searching for something like this for 2 days. I needed some tips concerning colouring the foundant, but not even 10 videos helped me like this one! Thanks a lot for your time! ❤️
When I was making a Thomas the tank cake for my nephew the blue fondant faded over the hour of the party. It didn’t fade a lot but it faded just as much as the progel one

These videos are always so thorough and well made. It shows how much effort goes into each of the videos over top of all the baking. Hats off to you for doing that Ann. xo
Rest well Ann! Must be hard editibg videos😍😂
Mrs.* (cause im 16😂)
I just love how much effort you put on this video, especially on that stop-motion part.

*OMG ITS THE NOW NOW*
So much effort goes into these videos!! They’re amazing
Since u r a great chef 👩🏼🍳.... u have great knowledge of food .. can u plz tell me is octopus ok to be consumed by muslims ??🤔
the_cat _lover I think so
Yes it is.
Why would you ask a non-muslim a question about muslim beliefs? Ask a scholar who has studied & practiced islam for more than 10 years. These are the people who you should seek when you have question regarding islam or muslims. And to answer your question, no, muslims can't consume octopus.
I honestly never knew you could flavor fondant. Big reason why I always watch your videos. Fun and I always learn something. Love it!! Your the best 😊
The reason why red doesn't make purple with cyan is because cyan isn't blue. Pink is to cyan as red is to blue, which is why pink works
I would still use pink and cyan as your base colors though, they're brighter and more pigmented so you'll have less of a chance to get a muddy color. Or maybe there's another reason why Ann recommended them instead. I know how colors work on paper but not fondant 😅
Juusan013
For pigments or dyes (like food colouring), the primary colours are yellow, cyan and magenta.
@@ragnkja Thank you 😊
Juusan013
I don’t get why she says you can’t get red, since printers use yellow and magenta to make red, and she shows how to make orange by using more yellow than magenta.
@@ragnkja Theoretically you should be able to, in paints it works. Maybe it's hard to get a true red when mixing pigments?
For the first one she could of put on gloves and mix it
I think I've used fondant once in my life but I just enjoy watching you. I find your videos quite relaxing.
Plus I enjoy colour theory
I love wilton the colour right kit was just rubbish
Your stopmotion clips are so impressive! Thank you for putting in so much effort into all your videos❤
Why don’t you just take
Yellow, red, blue, black and white
Then you have all the base colours
Red and white make PINK
And then you don’t have to by the pink food color
*looks on a color wheel*
I thought it makes pale red ;^;
Doing those stop motions take forever! She is someone who truly try’s
19 like ❤️💙❤️💙💙❤️
the stop motion mixing was so satisfying to watch i’m in love
I know what it feels like, Ann, in Toowoomba it is freezing (IN THE MIDDLE OF SPRING) like why... in winter it was super hot and now it’s super cold! This is great quality! Great video!
WOW The stop motion work is amazing. You have alot of patience. You need an award for all the work you do
