Dhundiraj Govind Phalke (Marathi: धुंडीराज गोविंद फाळके), popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke (Marathi: दादासाहेब फाळके ) (About this sound pronunciation (help·info)) (30 April 1870 - 16 February 1944), was an Indian producer-director-screenwriter, known as the Father of Indian cinema.[1][2][3] Starting with his debut film, Raja Harishchandra in 1913, now known as India's first full-length feature, he made 95 movies and 26 short films in his career spanning 19 years, till 1937, including his most noted works: Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri (1914), Lanka Dahan (1917), Shri Krishna Janma (1918) and Kaliya Mardan (1919).[4]
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for lifetime contribution to cinema, was instituted in his honour by the Government of India in 1969. The award is one of the most prestigious awards in Indian cinema and is the highest official recognition for film personalities in the country.[5] A postage stamp bearing his face was released by India Post to honour him in 1971. An honorary award from the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Mumbai was introduced in the year 2001, for lifetime achievement in Indian cinema.[6]

*You have a really good observation.*
This film was purposely shot like the way they used to in the beginning of Motion Pictures.
The camera movements in this entire film is like it was in those days, with some exceptions, actors and actresses would move in and out of view, much like stage actors. It was director's idea to shoot the film this way.
    This film is a classic.

Thanks a lot, Jaby. I came to know about this movie after watching your reaction on the trailer.
I could not stop myself from watching the whole movie right away. And I'm writing this comment after watching it with subtitles (I don't understand marathi language), and what can I say, what a beautiful creation this is. I liked that there is no negative emotions at any point in this movie, and every character is so innocent and supportive, ans still it's able to hold you throughout the movie.
I would like to see another movie of this tone, but sadly I'm not aware of any other.

This is one of the best movie ever Jaby. Dadasaheb Phalke is the reason we have bollywood today and you have your channel Lol. I had no choice but to go to the theater to watch this movie with all my family 8-10 years ago. I didnt want to at the start as I was only used to watching hollywood and superhit bollywood movies. I had no idea what this new local marathi movie was all about and thought it would be a dark and depressing movie (which I hate) for some reason. But turns out it was one of the most inspiring and well made movies I ever saw. I was pleasantly delighted in the end to have sat through the movie that day reluctantly at first by listening to my family and will always have a good memory about this. To this day this is one of my favorite movie. Cheers

This is a historic movie , where you cab watch how was India's first movie was made and how much Dadasahab Phalke struggled to make a movie in 1913. He was the father of Indian cinema. He trained his son and wife to do editing for his movie " Raja Harishchandra" hence the movie's name is " Harishchandrachi Factory" . He also experimented with stop animation. Where he filmed a growing plant. It's better if you can watch this movie and understand why Dadasaheb Phalke is called the father of Indian cinema.

Movie is inspiring and amazing, I watched it when it came out. Surely recommend everyone to watch it. It's not a serious intence film but light humour film explaining challenges they faced during those days in making a motion picture.

People in India count "Dada Saheb Phalke Award" as the only real award. There is no award money.
