- February 15th 1999. Tony Blair is Prime Minister. Leicester City still play at Filbert Street. In two days the team will reach the final of the League Cup. Gary Lineker's family still have a fruit and vegetable stall at the outdoor market.

Changed so much, Leicester is now like a Ghost town, RIP Leicester! Just loved the good old days in Lewisis, Woolworths etc
The middle area of Highcross looks so abandoned since a majority of the shops closed down, I have so many memories of walking Debenhams and House of Fraser.
Brings back memories. How things have changed.
Great video, cannot get over how much the town centre has changed in 18 years. walk around Leicester now and it's a different place.
Rob Grassby no it's not .....still the same Victorian town ... don't be fooled by the modern buildings. Leicester is still in many ways a very medieval Victorian city ......starting with the people (no ethnics )

Went to the poly in 1980, stayed in de Monfort square, up the new walk. great town, good times.
Still remember “The Globe” pub, st. Martins records, the hippy shop “ The Very Bizzare”.
Bloody hell, I feel old.
they're still there.. I think bizzre has just celebrated 40 years in the same spot.. I think.. globes still on the corner too.

The first generation blackberry phone was around then with internet and email access but very archaic by today's standards.
I did notice NOBODY was holding a mobile phone at all. - that's one contrast you see of these old videos.. everyone was talking to each other face to face.. having actual human conversation.
