  • Forget paying a company to fertilize your lawn and save some money! The Scotts Step 4 program is a perfect setup for a new home owner, beginner lawn enthusiast, or someone who doesn't have much time to get into the science of it all. They have a saying for when to throw down the Scotts steps (E.M.I.L.) Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day. Pretty smart and basic for your weekend warrior. This season I have teamed up with our local Great Lakes Ace Hardware and they are going to be helping me revive one of my managers lawns from the pizza shop. He is 20 years old and has bought his first house! Pretty impressive in this day an age if you ask me! Coming from apartment life, he has no idea where to start, no equipment, but the drive to have the nicest lawn on the block in his new subdivision. Come along on this journey and watch the lawn transform from a thin weedy lawn to a thick green (potential putting green) master piece. Hit that SUBSCRIBE button and turn on the notifications to see when to put down these products ahead of time. Links below are Amazon affiliate links and others that help my channel grow.

      Ya I know. I personally have used it at the end of August and beginning of September when it's good to throw down the green up products. After I recorded the instore they had mentioned EMIL and how they tell their customers to do it. It's an easier way to remember. So i mentioned how I do it and what was mentioned to me in store. Sorry to be confusing. Just trying to make everyone happy!

  • @dane8122
    @dane8122 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can also use step one in August - September with the lawn food step 4 if I'm not mistaken... according to the bag on step 1, applying it in late August, early September allows for poa annua and chickweed control. If you are a bermuda grass person like myself, you have to absolutely use step 1 for seeding if you are going to apply this in the spring.

Do u ever use liquid that attaches to hose or are the granulated the best? What about violets in lawn ? What about milorginate iron? What about fungus? I’m taking all this on myself as my grass company went under! I can do this! It just takes so long-Our grass is established.

    • @TheNeighborDominator
      @TheNeighborDominator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes same time. I water it in, best is to try to time it before a rain. That's my favorite. I mainly use liquids because I live on the water and can be more accurate. Violets in the lawn, ortho makes a hose end sprayer that works pretty well. I did a video on those. Milorganite is alright, great for beginners. It's a slow release nitrogen and will give you a good green up and last a long time. Fungus, I would use liquid not granular but they do make a Granular. If you want to email me at clint.tnd@gmail.com I can get more in depth. I hope this helps!

    Hey, had a question! We have a new lawn (cool climate WA state, graded w/ 2inch of topsoil and hydroseeded early summer 2023). It had a good first season of growth but the winter caused a decent amount of die-off as we didn't feed it before Fall (renovating a house). I got a late start this Spring and didn't apply a pre-emergent, but did apply Step 2 mid-May. My question is- since we now have weeds coming in, would it be better to apply Step 1 around July 4th so we can then de-thatch and overseed, or would you recommend Step 3 and save overseeding for the fall?

    I just completed #2 of the 4 steps and am affraid to go any further #1 was fine..the yard actually looked a little greener.
    #2 not so much. Like MANY other REAL reviews, there are now big burn patches all over the yard! And yea the directions were followed.
    I have come to the conclusion that spots that get alot of direct sun are affected the most. The small shaded part of my yard has no damage at all.
    I am now trying to water frequently in hopes some of it will recover. Becauae IF NOT.....I am not simplyy asking for a refund...but I am taking it to a small claims court to recoup the cost of repairing the lawn.

Cant even put down pre emergent yet. I'm going over grub killers in the next video. Should be a good one!

  • @JJDon5150
    @JJDon5150 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just saw this video. I moved into a new house about 9 months ago, but never fertilized the lawn. I want to start now with Spring being here (Northern Virginia) and it warming up to prevent future weeds and repair some spots on it. Since I haven't been fertilizing this whole time, do you think Step 1 for Seeding or Step 1 would be the better choice? Most of the grass is still green with some occasional brown spots here and there. I do have a section of the lawn that has a ton of weeds in it, but I think there is still some grass there. Wondering if I may need to reseed that pesky section in general though?

    • @TheNeighborDominator
      @TheNeighborDominator  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on what you want to achieve. The step one for seeding is not a true pre emergent. It has a preventer in there that will not let you over seed. The one that allows you to seed helps prevent some weeds while still allowing you to overseed your thin spots. A big question is what type of grass do you have? If you have a grass that regenerates and fills in on its own then I would use the regular step one...

    • @TheNeighborDominator
      @TheNeighborDominator  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are over seeding you can use the light blue bag. It has Tenacity in it which will allow the seed to germinate and help get rid of weeds. If you have a lot of weeds it's going to turn them all white which will.be an eye sore but that is what the products does. If you were to use the other step1 it has a pre emergent "weed preventer" that will not get allow seed to germinate. Using the step 2 to get rid of weeds can help but it also has product in it that will prevent seed from germinating. Are you trying to get rid of weeds? Also if you have a lot of weeds and you do get rid of them, the lawn will appear thin and you will have to overseed. I guess what are you trying to do?

Does the baby store sell recliners? They do, but it's just well packaged garbage. You need to go to the lazy boy store that specifically sells them so you get quality. And for seed at ace hardware. @@acetreyner2906 when laying seed down you want to ruff up the area before putting the seed down to get good to seed to soil contact. Then put a starter fertilizer on there and cover it with peat moss and water. Keep it moist. Water 2-3 times a day if possible. Don't soak it. After it germinates and you mow it a few times then jump on the scotts program. You can actually use the light blue step1 with seed starter in it!

      If you're soil temps are around 60 you are good. We are just getting there in Michigan. It's been a cold spring

      @@dragin79 sorry for the late reply. I'm normally on top my game. I've had to work everyday this week. Make sure to stay tuned, I'm releasing the steps out a week before to put them down as a reminder to everyone. Grub killer is next week! Video will be out next Friday.

      Have step one down and have some mushrooms already popping up. Front yard looks better than the back where it is very patchy.

    Dominate the neighbors?

    • @TheNeighborDominator
      @TheNeighborDominator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just a phrase in the grass community when your property line is greener than your neighbors and you have the best lawn in the neighborhood. My kids at work came up with my name because I would always talk about how my lawn would dominate the neighbors and they didn't care to hear it so they made an Instagram for me with the handle "The Neighbor Dominator " 🤣

    Great Video But I will never do business with Scotts as they are a scam company offering Rebates but you have to fight for the rebate money . Never again will I buy from them. Terrible Company
