So there's not really anything technically wrong with this, considering you paint something for the paint to stay there? I get plastidip is meant to be easily peel-able, but from a consumer perspective...I'd rather save effort in preserving my paint than removing it. If it's gonna last a few years and be easier to take care of, I'm not gonna mind spending some time removing it when the time comes.

    • @Darlemonte

It's been proven that if you apply enough it comes off fine.

i have just a small wing/duckbill to do for my car and im on primer right now, i plan to do black plasti dip and then clear coat it to hell and back...since itll never get removed anyways.
Reason is i like plasti dip the way it fill small imperfections and always give me a consistent finish...it's easier to work than paint that's the main advantage here.

I have been using 2k clear coat over plastidip on my wheels and interior trims for years and I can tell you that this guy didn't put enough coats of plastidip, probably intentionally to prove his point. You do 5-6 wet coats of plastidip and 3 of 2k clear. I can peel that off any day. Yes.. not as fast as only using plastidip but it is totally worth it as the paint will look real nice and very easy to clean, unlike plastidip alone acting like dust magnet. Also, wait no more than 5 minutes between plastidip passes and 10 mins between clear coat, all wet coats... this will make your wheels look wet and smooth like a baby's butt. Just buy a case of paint and practice on something.

Now after seeing this, wouldn't the 2k seem more durable? With just a glossifer, the plasti dip would just come off easily by a simple peel. If it comes off easily, that would make the product less durable? I am looking at plasti dipping my wheels and keeping it that way. The 2k made it difficult to peal since it dries hard. That usually means it's more durable because it holds up better. Rock chips, pressure washer etc...Just need some clarification

I think this could still have its practical application, when you have a set of mint chrome finish wheels you can still apply mutiple coats of plastidip and then 2k paint then the wheels are paintable in normal high gloss paint as many colors or coats as you like over time then when done even though it may take you a full day off chipping away to remove you would still have the original unscuffed hi mirror finish

4:30 easy i can answer that question. The clear coat is not only a gloss shine to it but it's also like kazy glue. Once it hardens its becomes a solid and since you sprayed it over the plasti dip it solidify it as well so now instead of being able to pull it like rubber it's become hardened. Probably dont use it on plasti dip unless you plan on making that dip a for ever color

But I must say if you don't spray it on right then youre gonna get some orange peel or areas of overspray and it'll look gritty or somewhat flat. But overall im happy with both products I think the 2k prolongs the life of the plasti dip.

The beauty of plasti dip is that you can remove it & change colors at ease without having to sand off a clear coat ..

good sir of DipTheeCar, how much weight does dipping 4 wheels add to the unsprung weight? 1lb total? im being really deep picky, but i grew up using chopsticks picking at singular kernels of rice to get my bowl clean. also i love picking scabs, WE ALL DO, says G. Carlin!

Im still peeling but its taken 2 days to to get the bumper and trunk done
ya live and ya learn what to look out for when buying stuff from dealers

Luckily I did my research on TH-cam and found your video, I was about to clear coat my plastidip for that glossy look but I had some doubts than found this video even if it's 3 years old, it is still valid. Thanks.

Do you have a side by side comparison of day 1 glossifier next to 2k clear coat and then 30 days later of both? Before the peeling of course.

Isn't that why Auto flex exists? Giving you the peel features of dip and strong protection of clear coat.

I recommend that you paint with permanent paint the plastic dip to the passage of a couple of weeks it begins to lift

So what if we were to buy your dip dissolver product then use power washer? I’m sure that would work in getting it all off pretty quickly.

  • @70thomson
    @70thomson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The clear coat does not penetrate through the plasti dip, so it shouldn’t affect the adhesion any different, this is simple painters knowledge.
