  • Better quality video demonstrating the look and functionality of modern headlight units and LED marker bulbs installed on a 944. Please note, the fog lights are still filament bulbs… for now.
    The integrated turn signal in the headlight unit is something that I think is very beneficial considering how small these cars are and how low the front bumper signals/ marker lights are. During the day it’s easy to see the indicators especially with led bulbs installed. But during early morning/ dusk/ early evening/ and in overcast weather, having the ability to add another source of indication has been very helpful I’ve found. With the DRLs on in those instances help the car to stand out in traffic.
    My own personal experience is that since adding these modifications to the car, people pull out in front of me less often, and people give me more room when I’m merging lanes. Just my .02 and thought I’d share.
    If you notice a lot of similar or repeated content lately bare with me as I’m trying to reshoot higher quality versions of videos I’ve done or made in the past. Thanks to all those who subscribe. TFG will be undergoing some exciting changes in the future.

    Big improvements all round✅
    Especially the headlights and I have a 928 and as mint as my car is the headlights are very poor
    Even the later 928’s are no better and they were 8”,plus very expensive to buy (if you can get them)
    LED is the way to go✅

    Did some more research on this and it seems you might have the same issue as others with LEDs - notice starting at 14s in the video when you have your light switch on, that the turn signals don't work correctly - they go from dim to bright, not off to on. Definite safety hazard as an oncoming car wouldn't be able to tell you're turning.

      @TakeFlightGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feed back, but that’s actually how the normal and original circuit works as the stock bulbs in the bumper originally are dual filament bulbs. So when the parking lights are on, they don’t go from on to off, the parking light remains on while the second filament shines when the signals are engaged.
      The bulbs I have installed in the turn signals are a dual filament style circuit. The LEDs come on with the parking light, and when the signals are turned on, the driver in the bulb engages the signal circuit and shines them at a brighter intensity during the flash. That is how the factory lighting is set up, just in this case instead of a dual filament bulb, they are LED units. Both of my 944s front turn signals/ marker bulbs worked this way.
      When the parking lights are off you’ll see only the turn signal circuit is working and they flash on to off.
      Now to add your point, without their being any other signals on the front of the car, that’s exactly why I wanted these halo style headlights which have a turn signal circuit integrated into them.

    Three more Q's that can help others coming here: what year is your 944? Which relay part# did you use? Does your dash indicator light up properly for the turn signals? Or it's dim or doesn't light up at all? Thanks!

      Dash: the turn signal indicator functions properly and there are no issues. I believe it has also been swapped out for an LED as I have LED in dash lighting.
      Hope that helps!

      Amazing, thanks! I think the key piece a lot of people are missing is the LED dash light. I believe if you keep regular incandescent dash turn signal it doesn't light up properly, but with LED dash seems to work fine. I have all the same components as yours arriving today for my '84 and will test it out and report back. I also have full LED dash already 😀👍

      @@afeudale Awesome! I hope everything goes smoothly!
      Remember if you hook up the turn signals, tie the DRL part of the circuit into the side marker light on the lower splitter, and use the power from the front turn signal only for the turn signal. I made a video of what I did on my ‘83. The wiring harnesses that I made should be the same, it’s just rather than using the DRL and the signal from the light on the bumper you’re separating them.

      Just finished swapping out all the bulbs - I don't have the halo headlights, just regular H4 Hella LEDs, so didn't have to splice the wiring. Unfortunately, I can't do full LED turns - at least one bulb from each side (front or back) needs to be incandescent. Reason being is the dash indicator requires this incandescent bulb to get it's grounding. With LED's, there is no such direct ground. So basically I did full LED's all around - side markers front/back, brake lights, park lights, reverse lights, license lights, headlights, dash bulbs. The only incandescent are the front corner dual-filament 1157 bulbs. Also have the LED compatible relay. I suppose the wiring for the dash indicator might be different on the '86 vs my '84 since you said you have a proper working dash indicator.

    Nice 944! How did you disable "fast flicker" for the turn signals? Different relay? Resistors?

    • @TakeFlightGarage
      @TakeFlightGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I couldn’t tell you if it was just the change in model year, or the difference in the brand of headlight. The one thing I did change was that instead of tying them into the front markers for the DRL, they are tied to the side markers. I tried that on my old car and it didn’t work, so that leads me to believe that this brand of headlight is better or for whatever reason just plays nicer with the 944. For the relay I’m just using a generic LED compatible relay from sylvania I picked up from Autozone. I’ve been running these lights for around a year and they’ve worked great!
      The brand if you’re interested in trying them out is Torchbeam. If you just search that on Amazon you should find ‘em.
