I really enjoyed that game before the addition of the OSP wrecked the balance. It sucks that ANS is completely unplayable these days, I just don’t enjoy OSP very much even if it is like playing on easy mode.

I hate osp for every damn aspect of that faction: their ships are huge and made of frckn paper, their guns and sensors are inferior, they do not have hybrid missiles, and their missiles lack EO tracker. I can go on for very long time describing why OSP sucks. In order to play them effectively you have to be limited by a very small number of viable fleet comps, which is just insanely boring.

But the thing is, more often then not I see how people in lobby just switch to ANS with the first opportunity, so it's like 4 alliance vs 1 protectorate in the lobby. That thing alone says something already. I'm in no mood to argue with you. OSP may be viable, but my point is that you have much less room for experiments with them. I have 2:1 ratio in custom fleets in favour of Alliance, and while I still have some concepts for ANS to test, I just can't figure out something new for the OSP. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.
I think a lot more inspiration comes from falling frontier. Specifically the Hano which is almost immediately recognizable as a ship like shape while still being a viable space vessel design
+ on the skybox, for sure. I threw this trailer together pretty much as fast as possible in a night with craft I had lying around, but if I make a proper cinematic in space I'll definitely look into a better skybox.
You took the best parts of space engineers and put them in ksp. Now all that gun mod needs is localized damage, as opposed to blowing up a massive structural part with a single shot
This looks like it was inspired by Babylon-5. Because one of those ships looked a lot like a Narn cruiser, and another looked like a Hyperion-class cruiser.

Love it. They're VERY similar to space battleships I made in some graphics software and 3D printed for a tabletop wargame I play with my son (rolling dice, not video game). In our case, you can just use some simple WW-1 or even Pre-Dreadnought/Tsushima type rules for a tabletop wargame, just substitute in spaceships and a hex map with a starfield background (borrowed from BattleTech Aerospace game). In my case I made my ships symmetrical top and bottom, and the "bridge" of my ship is a giant sensor dome (actual bridge is deep inside the ship center). I then threw on a giant wheel for a gravity deck (not important for combat), and some giant fins on the top and bottom to be some sort of FTL warp drive "sail" thing that my ships use to travel interstellar space. Or, as I call it, make it look cool, then explain why it looks the way it does.
Once done whole fleet and few targets and my old NASA battle ship replica with some Airforce laser from BD, the moment I switched that "por" thing to team B "she" simply mascred us.

If I'm not mistaken, I saw few different designs from some sources. Falling Frontier, Nebulous Fleet, possible the Expanse, and there is one other but I'm not sure where it's from specifically: but I know its familiar enough to be recognized that it was from another franchise or game of some sort. Just not one I can't recall at the moment.
Stock+DLC, BDA, BDA-E, and a custom fork of B9 Pwings make up the bulk of the ships. I've got Mk2 and Mk3 Expansion but I can't recall using any parts from them except the reactors.

Yeah - a lot of the bigger ships feel very yamato while the action shots of the more compact ones have really strong Expanse energy. I love it.
