Is it me or does anyone else feel sad when those ds's with the stickers came up on the video. The reason why I feel sad is because to that kid that ds probably meant the world to him or her to stylized it to their standard with their favorite stickers that possibly a past family member gave them or that little bit of money they saved up just to put their favorite stickers on it or anything like that. It makes me realize how time flies by and how life is a fragile thing and makes me long for the days of the past of seeing my family members and showing them my ds when I got it.
Yeah nobody tests stuff at goodwill lol. Like these consoles were probably owned by kids and in storage for a long time so chances are they don't work because duh kids abuse consoles.
Just btw, I ended up fixing a few more of these consoles (fixes that weren't shown in the video). I swapped around components in a few of the consoles to get stuff working. Most of these fixes are fairly straightforward (with the right skills), just gotta buy some additional components. I really enjoy making videos like this, so I'm looking forward to buying some more "untested" consoles from goodwill.

I bought a used Japanese 3ds earlier and it's got thousands of photos and videos on it. Lots of swap notes as well. Although I couldn't read it, that kid grew up with the same thing as me and it made me very nostalgic, I'm gonna treasure this 3ds
You should port the photos to a computer and save them. Maybe one day you may find the original owner. It’s a small world. (Plus then you’d have room to take your own photos)
I mean usually untested stuff is a lot cheaper in my experience. All I really have learned is you just gotta clean them well and replace a few things and it should be good to go
Found a gameboy and gameboy carrying case with a ton of games a little while ago, and everything works great. Even with some of the original manuals, they look amazing. The goodwill had a class case up front that it was in, I’d say if you’re finding stuff just out on the shelves with other electronics they probably don’t work lol. Going in person is definitely better
10:26 On the back of the GB with the unsoldered display pins there is a quite rare sticker. It was originally refurbished by Nintendo. Be careful with that when you wash it, because it's most definitely a collector's item.
The sketchy thing is that all of these consoles were supposedly untested… what are the odds that they are all untested but they all have issues? Seems like they tested them, found issues, then sold as untested lol
Idk if it helps but, I had a dark blue dsi that used to the something that the light blue one is doing, Basically I couldn’t open any apps. The small wifi sub-board went bad. My uncle swapped it with another and all the symptoms went away.
I actually used to work for Goodwill and for the branch I worked for (and I’m fairly sure it’s the same for most branches) we’re told to not test electronics because we’d either not have what we needed to properly test to make sure it’s working, or it’d just take too much time. Of course, I’m not saying it’s impossible they were tested, I’m just saying it’s unlikely.
@@spatialdiscord6457 that’s what I’ve seen from most goodwills, but I am seeing goodwills now that will test the items and actually list them as tested and working (on the goodwill auction site). So it appears to be more common for some goodwill shops to actually invest the time in testing stuff
I used to have a DS like the red and black one when I was younger, the paint was a little chipped but it worked wonderfully. I came back from school one day and my mom had painted the entire cover in glitter nail polish and it refused to turn on, I was devastated. It’s so nice to see one look so clean and almost brand new
As someone who used to work at goodwill yea just don’t shop there. They never test their electronics and you can only return them for store credit (meaning credit you can only use at goodwill stores) you don’t get your money back. Also they never wash the clothes they put out and it’s always infested with bed bugs.
Interesting that you bought these from a store associated with a charity. As someone whose Mum has volunteered at a Salvation Army store, and who has briefly volunteered herself, I know if these consoles were donated to our store, they'd go straight in the bin. In our store, these consoles not only have to be tested to ensure that they work, but have to be _test tagged_ by an electrician. Then again, Australia seems to be a lot more stringent in that regard. Probably why I have yet to see a Goodwill shop or any sign of Goodwill here in Australia.
Salvation Army is generally a much better charity store than goodwill. Goodwill claims to be charity, but they aren’t. They donate very little of their profits to actual charity. So they’re basically just taking people’s free stuff and selling for huge profits lol
The ds lite at 3:06 is the exact one I have. Down to the damages, missing stylus, and everything. That's so weird because I know I still have mine. Mine actually has a kinda broken R button though and mine fortunately charges. But it's so weird how it has a bunch of the same damages as mine

I used to buy and sell video games on ebay, and goodwill was one of the best places to buy from, but not every auction they had was good. You've got to have a feel for it, and know which lots are for a console and games from a kid that got tired of them, and which lots are a bunch of leftover junk that nobody wanted. GBA SP and DS were my favorite games to deal with, but the DS did break easily, you've got to watch for that.
I work at goodwill and what I know is we have People whose job is to test electronics. if we get a DS, we have a DS charger that we save for charging them and testing them out. the thing is we cant test everything completely, so we have a 24-hour exchange thing if there is something wrong. but we always try to test them to make sure they at least turn on. our location tries not to sell gross or broken things. if we sell something for ebiz we clean them up and then keep them in a little room. also its super weird that you got a DS from ebiz. our store rules is that we don't sell older game stuff, we only sell newer stuff. if we get a DS it get prices at 19.99 and put in our BTQ cases. stuff like wiis, xboxs, xbox360s, ps 1 2 and 3s all go in our cases. I never check ebiz as I dont really care for shopping on there. so im sure other stores just put anything on there. sadly I found out thought that most stores are not like ours. most places don't really test them or even have any policy on electronics in case they don't work. it is really annoying and sad. a year or 2 ago, my neighbors had a yard sale. their daughter i went to school with (she is younger) didn't want her nintendo ds lite. they said it was code problems... but it doesn't take an SD card (came with it) it also had a high quality hardly scratched if even at all with quite a few games, quite a few stylisus, (idk how to spell that) the stylisus were varying sizes but were cool. it also had a plastic stylus carrying case. it was a blue nintendo ds lite, with no charger, but a micro usb B worked fine. it works perfectly. i want another DSI but i left it in my school locker in middle school many years ago (they donated it to good will without telliong me) now someone has like over $30 worth of free games pre installed and my favorite cartridge and the only one i didn't complete..... the DS lite was $10 and incase you were wondering... the SD card had no nintendo stuff, just family photos and some traumatizing "stuff" in between my friends birthday parties...... in all my DSI is gone, but my gameboy advance with a normal audio jack is gone, and my gameboy advance sp speaker broke because i played my rave music too loud in "The Sims Bustin' Out" so i have no audio. the ds lite is a good substitution. has shared play, picto chat, ds cartridge and gba cartridge play, but sadly the instruction manual specifically states that you can't play Game boy or Game boy color games, which you will find out by trying to fit a Gameboy cartridge past a cartridge spacer block... idk what to think... i wanted a ds lite to play ds and gba games... but now i want my dsi back... they had the legend of zelda four swords aniversery edition for free, which i can never play again because you cant emulate a dsi e-shop game... and i probably cant get it again... its the only version like it that you can play single player! My advice? stay away from handhelds and get a pc or console.
I was just thinking, I have a feeling the next DS will just have a folding screen. I'm watching this on my Galaxy Z Fold 3, and I'm remembering the DS rumors before it came out and all we knew at the time was that it would have 2 screens, and I remember touch screens were brand new Expensive high tech technology that was just invented. I couldn't believe the new Gameboy had a touch screen!! 🤯 haha So looking from today. I bet the next gen console has a folding screen and may even be a separate thing than the next Gen switch, it could be the switch 2, but man I can see it already, it would be the same form as the DS, except the top screen is a full wide screen and the middle of the screen extends down through the hinge where it has the floor of the game and the HUD overlaid ontop , controls on either side, and a sleek sexy folding screen console. I hope Nintendo makes this now! But if they do not. In 3 or 4 years, someone will find a way to combine and old Galaxy fold screen and Frankenstein it to a DS and it also plays switch games. It's only a matter of time.
That red o3ds was probably treated very badly, 3ds slider missing, cracks near the hinge, mine just has a dirty screen and a dirty case (yes i really need to clean it)
Those DS lites with flashing battery lights are definitely knackered batteries as I had it recently with a few DS lites as well, they absolutely need replacing.
The same thing happened to my game boy pocket where the screen looks just like that.. I kept it in a garage for years and not sure how that happened with uv damage as there’s no sun or light where I kept it 🧐
I recently turned my 3ds on for the first time in years. It did the same thing with the brief orange light. I just switched around outlets a few times and it turned to a full orange light, and then charged fine
Even if all the consoles worked fine, it still seems like kind of a bad deal for a reseller. If you’re getting into Nintendo handheld consoles refurbing and reselling, you should start off with 1 or 2 cheap consoles and get a feel for the market and learn how to repair at the same time.
It has been years since i seen a OG DS. Though the only thing i hated about em was the fact you could not use the Link cables when playing GBA games on them
heck I'd take that Namco Museum any day of the week. I grew up on pacman fever. I think it's one of those once you catch it you have it for life kinda things..
I had the same problem on my dsi btw it’s not just the camera app its every app/game that you try to boot its caused by a broken WiFi board or a wifi board with a loose ribbon cable in my case the ribbon cable was just loose
dude Ill save you the trouble in the future dealing with batery acid corrosion cleanup. Vinegar and a brush is all you need on those terminals. I tried it on a radio that had the same and it cleaned right up You can also try that in conjunction with a little sand paper to help polish up the terminals.
On my dsi xl too. Tried to fix it. Mr and my father did but now a the screens (the bottom screens only flashes white then goes black the upper is staying black) broke. Sadly new parts for ds consoles are pretty expensive. You could buy a new one from it, but I don't want to bc my father buyed this dsi for much money back in the day. And it means so much to me still. So how do I replace screens savely. If it's the screens Idk. :(
I feel like the majority of people who don’t want their working DS would sell it, not donate it. When I see electronics at goodwill I’m skeptical. My fan from there is amazing but that’s a very rare occurrence from my experience. I don’t live close enough to a goodwill to make returns practical
I found out the 2ds is a very shitty console. It's like nintendo ruined Them and than put some kind of stuff on the chips. I have had 4 different 2ds boards and they all have it. Like they made a mistake and than had to repair all the boards. I remember Nintendo sold the 2dsses for cheaper at one point with a free game also. I'm thinking this is because Nintendo knew the boards would break easy in the future. I have never seen this kind of stuff on Any other Nintendo console. Alot of the time the 2ds wont start if the screws are not put in tight. I think that's why the stuff is on the chips for pressure because they made some kind of production mistake. Replacing parts is easy for the 2ds that's right though. But I would buy a different model if you ask me.
I have the same problem with one of my old DS’ that the first one and second one did. U plug it in, light flicks on for a second but then goes off after
I have a pale pink ds lite that worked for a bit, but I accidentally punctured an already faulty ribbon cable and went from a discolored top screen to total lack of power. But I don't have the heart to get rid of it, I would love to be able to use it again some day.

I hope Nintendo makes this now! But if they do not. In 3 or 4 years, someone will find a way to combine and old Galaxy fold screen and Frankenstein it to a DS and it also plays switch games. It's only a matter of time.
They’ll name it the Nintendo Switch Fold (foldable Nintendo Switch with clamshell design). The successor to the OLED one.
Just a recommendation, soak battery terminals in vinegar. It actually destroys the corrosion compared to isopropyl
When those DS lite and especially those DSi came out....whew, I could feel my back breaking from how old I feel.
i am just waiting for a gamestop refurbished ps5, hopefully you will do it
That red o3ds was probably treated very badly, 3ds slider missing, cracks near the hinge, mine just has a dirty screen and a dirty case (yes i really need to clean it)
God the light blue dsi brought back so many memories
I never bid when they say it's untested, so sketchy...
Elliot has fixed a ton of these
15:54 the flashing light glitch happened to my DSi too and I haven't figured out how to fix it! :,(
Love the stickers that you use 😆
Nearly every time I've bought from goodwill I've regretted it
A Goodwill employee recently told me they don't test their electronics, they merely check to see if they turn-on.
I spilled hot and sour soup on my ds lite back in the day. Every time I see the dirty ones you’re handling I think of how nasty mine still looks 🤣
13:59 birthday jingle startup on the ds lite
Those DS lites with flashing battery lights are definitely knackered batteries as I had it recently with a few DS lites as well, they absolutely need replacing.
Ended up not being bad batteries. I fixed one of them later in the video
@@jrob0021 Maybe it was just the ones I got that had it perhaps but it was a good fix.
I just switched around outlets a few times and it turned to a full orange light, and then charged fine
omg i have that nintendogs skin on my DS!!! I ended up taking off the inner stickers because it caused the system not to close correctly. I love it sm
Even if all the consoles worked fine, it still seems like kind of a bad deal for a reseller. If you’re getting into Nintendo handheld consoles refurbing and reselling, you should start off with 1 or 2 cheap consoles and get a feel for the market and learn how to repair at the same time.
16:12 that screen looks like it was in the cold too long.
It has been years since i seen a OG DS. Though the only thing i hated about em was the fact you could not use the Link cables when playing GBA games on them
I am a huge fan of you Jacob! I LOVE your videos!!!
Gameboy pocket can be fixed easily just you need a new polarizer layer on the screen
"Untested" is eBay speak for "I have tested it, and it flat out doesn't work, but I don't want to invest any time into fixing it"
This man violated those game slots😂
heck I'd take that Namco Museum any day of the week.
Goodwill used to have good deals, but it’s sad that they don’t really anymore
The bottom screen on the DS Lite was notorious for yellowing overtime, at least from my experience
Great and fun video but $30 for a non-working console is too much.
Chuck some IPA down the start switch on the Gameboys if there's no power and corrosion in battery bays isn't the issue
dude Ill save you the trouble in the future dealing with batery acid corrosion cleanup.
Vinegar and a brush is all you need on those terminals.
I tried it on a radio that had the same and it cleaned right up
You can also try that in conjunction with a little sand paper to help polish up the terminals.
The first console is probably a fuse issue. I had a black DS Lite 11 years ago that had that problem. f1 fuses are a common issue on ds lites.
Gameboy pocket was the first Gameboy I was given. The red one, too.
I feel like the majority of people who don’t want their working DS would sell it, not donate it. When I see electronics at goodwill I’m skeptical. My fan from there is amazing but that’s a very rare occurrence from my experience. I don’t live close enough to a goodwill to make returns practical
To me the 2ds is easier to repair then a ds lite. Mainly because it doesn’t have a hinge and the top and bottom screen are on the same panel
@@HD-wf3bp i see.
Damn.. ive been searching for a 2ds/ds for a long time.. cool that u got a lot of them so i can decide which im gonna buy😎
sheesh i actually got a ds lite for 14$ prestine condition no scratches only problem was top lcd had dead pixles
This is really evident with the fact tht if it doesn’t have a charger it’s automatically listed as for parts
I saw that the 2ds has water damage next to the flex cable you pointed out
Yeah I did too
All OG Xboxes has/had the clock bomb capacitor. A lot of them (clock capacitors) have since been disposed of.
19:09 The colour of that 3ds is smexy
Buys handhelds from a company that sales people's second hand stuff as as-is merchandise. Some of the handhelds dont work and he calls it a scam.
dont know why everyone thinks its a battery problem over it being just a poor connection/voltage control in the charger port
I have the same problem with one of my old DS’ that the first one and second one did. U plug it in, light flicks on for a second but then goes off after
Another way you can test the ds cartridge reader is if the Nintendo logo comes up on the boot screen
the hinges on ds lites are very fragile and its always the hinge on the right
Use pure white vinegar on the corroded contacts, it neutralizes and dissolves the corrosion
Imagine he bought a mc Donald ds
14:48 for scientific research... : )
I have a pale pink ds lite that worked for a bit, but I accidentally punctured an already faulty ribbon cable and went from a discolored top screen to total lack of power. But I don't have the heart to get rid of it, I would love to be able to use it again some day.
The same thing happened to my brother's Gameboy pocket, just a result of the screen deteriorating overtime.
Do people hand consoles into Goodwill if they're working? Untested just means "something is wrong with it, we just don't know what".
i know why that top screen is messed up, if you go into the batterie compartment there are two small screws that adjust the screen.
The gameboy pocket issue is a burnt polarizer lens
I wonder sometimes if there's any person watching these videos came across their gaming consoles or systems.
Probably at some point, considering all the consoles I’ve had on the channel lol
I remember my OG dis, it was the blue one in the video, I miss it lol
The reason why that red DS is so good is because it’s a broken Beta64 one.
Some of them could make a gameboy macro mod!
Jacob take your phone camera and zoom in on the ribbon cable. It might work 🤷♂️
Bro the yoshi one had a skylanders sticker
