"Our Spot" The same place Cloud lives in just to feel close to Aerith in Advent Children.......they really added so much context to the church in such a clever way and it makes it all the more important in AC later on

People don’t realise the Japanese cultural nuances of this scene… 1. In Japanese they usually use ‘suki’ meaning “like” to confess romantic feelings, if you watch romance anime you’ll know that characters usually miss a love confession because they confuse the normal admiration ‘like’ with a romantic ‘like’. So when she says there’s “liking and then there’s liking”, she’s telling him she’s aware of the difference and she’s shy to tell him which one she means. 2. 1:45 when Aerith says “thank you” Cloud looks taken aback. If this is a direct translation from Japanese, saying “thank you” in a romantic context is similar to saying “I love you”. Yuna says “I love you" in english and "Thank you” in Japanese to Tidus in ffX as well. Which would explain his reaction and why she tries brushing it off quickly in embarrassment. Cloud, don't be so dense and insecure, she is confessing her love to you right now 🫠

"Whatever happens, don't blame yourself." the look on Cloud's face right then, I think that is when it settled in his mind that something terrible was probably about to happen and that he realized that nothing he could do in the end would stop it. Whoever animated the expressions on the character models did a damn good job. Legit moments where Cloud looks like he has a single thought in his head, and then moments like this one where you can see the chaotic storm of emotions on his face. People said they made Cloud crazier than in the OG game, I think they just showed the stuff they always meant to show in the OG FF7. I could see Cloud being this broken from the beginning.
I agree with you that they’re just showing what they tried to portray in OG. And poor Cloud. After Zack’s death was Aerith’s. He’s not doing too well. Especially mentally.
@holographicwing In this version he's very nonchalant about Aerith asking him if he wants to do this another time. In the high affinity version when Aerith asks him "oh? Next time?" He responds by smiling softly and saying "yeah. Next time". Basically in that version he's actively looking forward to it and genuinely wants to date her again.
@jinnimoo aww that's adorable. Cloud actively calling her his friend is something Aerith probably loves to hear. She might like him romantically but ultimately i think she's happy to be his friend especially after wanting friends for so long.
Kinda breaks my heart now thinking how in Advent Children movie Cloud of all places lives in Aeriths church, which is their “spot”, their “place” as she sings in the official soundtrack. Also, although the game is not over yet, Aerith reassures him that they don’t even need a promise that they will reunite because it is a fact that they will.
Cloud and Aerith will reunite in game three and game three will have a title of its own and it won’t be called Advent Children and Kitase confirmed it won’t have the same ending as AC, remake/rebirth aren’t the same as the original game, rebirth gives so many hints that Cloud and Aerith will reunite.
He already did save her if you watch her death scene I will keep it short When Cloud deflects Sephiroth sword look at how it landed, straight up, Cloud saves Aerith, Aerith death scene, look at Sephiroth sword, it’s sideways When Cloud tells Aerith I got this he lays her on her back, look at the others it looks like they are frozen in time, not moving After the fight, Tifa runs to Aerith she is laying on her side, Cloud is approaching, as soon as you see one of his boot, pause, zoom in, Aerith is still laying on her side Cloud approaches Aerith is laying on her back and as he walks through the whispers the others disappear People can’t see this or ignore this because they just can’t get over this fate thing. She did die in the OG timeline but was saved in a different one. Remember Cloud laying down on the bed and he saw Aerith laying on her bed in coma, he can see different timelines which is why he sees the rift in the sky and why he could see Aerith in the end because he was injected with Jenova cells and mako.
Yes! The sword landed on the tile when he saved her in our timeline & on the concrete when she died in a different timeline. My theory is she only died because Sephy is merging worlds and he says the main emotion in most worlds is loss right after it's showing her dead. I think she died in most timelines so when merging worlds together the sum average of what happened in all worlds is the end result. In a Sephy one world reunion world she's dead. But at the end of the next game Cloud's gunna defeat Sephy and make all the worlds go back to their individual worlds & everything that was supposed to be will go back to what it's supposed to be. In our timeline we're playing, she's alive. ❤ Such a masterpiece.

The entire theme of the game is leaving the past behind - seems like most gamers can't do that as well as the characters in the game do.
This scene utterly made me break in tears and the game didn't get to me that way by that time. Seriously had to pause and take a break. I don't get why you can dislike this. It's beautiful, pure and Aerith made the ultimate sacrifice for love. Legendary

I don't ship Cloud with Tifa but I do at least see them liking each other (you can't really say they don't) and I admit yes, they did have that kiss on the Gold Saucer. But the Gold Saucer date stuff I feel is intentionally written to be service to the player, not the plot exactly. Because think about it, if Cloud and Tifa canonically kissed before this scene, then this is just a giant slap to the face to her because Cloud is saying (regardless of relationship status btw with minor changes), that he would still go on another date with Aerith and this is a story chapter that is NOT optional.
I read a description summary of the story of FFVII that said it's basically about Aerith teaching Cloud to lighten up. I think that's exactly what it's about.
Aerith ignore Cloud’s cocky attitude. She teaches him that it’s okay to be yourself and people will love and accept you for who you are, since he’s felt ashamed that he didn’t make solider, she breaks down his walls he built up for so long, because she knows how it feels to grow up feeling lonely, I never seen Cloud smile as much as he does when he is with Aerith.
@@vaasmontenegro3728Its stuff like this and eventually Tifa not judging Cloud for hiding the truth in the eventual last bits of the game that makes me shed a tear. Especially in remake it just feels very realistic how Cloud is portrayed as someone who is seemingly cold at first but learns to embrace that humanity and finally accept himself to support his friends that really makes this story so great. Its really helped me to let people into my life again in spite of past doubts and get that same sense of happiness.
i just realized that there's small differences of dialogue in this scene, i assume it has to do with the level of affinity you have with aerith. he can either say "why not?" (probably low affinity) which makes the scene a bit more ambiguous or "yeah, next time" while giving aerith a reassuring smile which insinuates that he wants a next date with her (probably high affinity).
In wonder why there is such a difference this far in the game. Thought all that affinity thing should have ended at the Gold Saucer. Why bother making cloud respond different if it’s all gonna be the same straight after?
in the low affinity, i interpret it as typical cloud doesn't realize his feelings for aerith but still wants to be around her, hence he answered why not like it is normal for them to go around for a date. But in high affinity, he knows his feelings well and looks forward to the next date.

According to what you said, the difference in attitude is little and the result is the same, so why go out of their way to make a difference at all? I wonder if this implies that this affinity thing may also play a role in the final outcome in the third game, you know whether aerith lives or dies. Really hope that’s not the case though.
The whole affinity system sucks imo. Cloud is way too often ooc, and they did a better job in remake. It just doesn't make any sense that it matters in this scene unless they just want more ppl to buy P3 since it's more ambiguous in LA. Hope that they'll remove it for P3. 🤦🏼
As Max said, this IS the BIG LOSS! not the scene that we got. and I'm so happy they did this scene. It hits you hard more especially when Aerith gets the chance to confess to cloud knowing there's no way she can live through this.

Aerith really had Cloud looking forward to a future with her "perhaps you should give me a harder one NEXT TIME?" Glad even Aerith caught that People dont realize or simply forgot that Aerith flat out warned Cloud to not to fall in love with her, which made him frustrated beyond belief as he felt rejected by that alone, as well as being compared to Zack. Aerith also holds blame in the lack of intimacy she is able to share with Cloud during the game because she constantly pulls him in two directions (she flirts with and wants to love Cloud and for him to love her back romantically but in the same breath, she will also tell him no and that bad things will happen if they do and to not blame himself WHEN the worst happens, which only frightens Cloud more so he feels he has to be even more stoic and protect her even harder each time. In Cloud's mind, if he protects her properly she can have a future with him because Aerith will have no fear) Thats why the carousel scene was so poignant and felt canon unlike the Tifa scene. With Tifa, Cloud was acting unlike himself and it felt like a persona he had as this unfazed, badass swashbuckling hero who says the one liner perfectly and sweeps the girl off her feet. He literally extended his hand, pulled her in and kissed her. Cloud wouldn't do any of that, at least not after Advent Children and even then, he would probably do it differently. Cloud with Aerith is who he really is. Cloud has always been the bushy tailed, shy, awkward but idealistic and brave type. Even in regards to romance, he wouldn't even be able to express himself so boldy, hell he didnt even reveal who he was to Tifa when he was a Shinra infantryman out of embarrassment for not being SOLDIER 1st or 2nd Class. Cloud finally saying "give me a harder one next time" shows his massive growth with Aerith on a romantic level qnd he was even egtting into the energy of the date near the end before he cpuld sense sometjing was wrong and pressed Aerith for answers, which has always been the microcosm for their relationship. Cloud and Aerith are legit soulmates and even Zack could see that.
You know the real him so well don't you 😂 maybe he finally thought ah f it im on a date with her and ill take my chances. People can change, as he says. It seems pretty easy to influence Cloud, like when the old lady told him to really listen when Tifa talks. So maybe he was talked into taking bolder moves by someone. Either way a lot of people say his date with Tifa was something special, even Cleriths. So I think you're the only one seeing that hero facade thing. He hugged her first bc he can tell she was feeling sad they missed out on being together for the last five years or whatever.

All I know is Cleriths are still denying he ever loved Tifa and invalidating everything Cloud does with her (even the kiss, wtf?) But I can see him getting bolder and reciprocating to either of them, just not anything overt (besides the kiss).

I think that's partially the reason why she didn't just come right out and say I love you to him as well, she wanted to confess to him in a way that didn't completely rip his heart out later on so she almost said it kind of sneakily That and the Japanese nuances someone else mentioned in the comments as well, I think it's a combo of all of that

I always cheered for Tifa X Cloud because i felt that Aerith never stoped liking Zack. But man, after this game and the scenes between Cloud and Aerith, it's more claryfing that they love each other. And her death hit me a lot harder that i expected. What a masterpiece my god.
0:30 I don't like how the developers animated him in that moment. He doesn't move at all while saying 'I mean, why not?' It looks a bit too stiff to me. A few seconds earlier, he appeared more 'lively' while talking. Additionally, when Aerith is confessing to him, he is already facing her, and the position he takes is only when he says 'yeah, next time.'(from the high affection scene). So, in my conclusion, the scene was initially animated with high affection towards Aerith, while the 'why not' part seemed squeezed in to fit the other routes. Boom.
'Next time give me a harder one' Okay I dont want to start silly theories or anything but I feel like at the end Cloud will dive into the lifestream to save Aerith because in this timeline he knows how to find her
I hope you're right. I want them to be able to have a happy ending. Maybe we'll have something like final fantasy x where you can save titus in a DLC. Would make sense from a business perspective. They make extra money from that.
This is the true emotional "death" scene IMO, and it was done really well. It gave a Cloud and Aerith a final farewell and Aerith still tried to comfort Cloud by telling him to not blame himself. And the scene with Sephiroth slowly walking through the Church is absolutely chilling. They can never remake the stabbing death scene or the surprise and emotions it left. But this scene was just a masterpiece and a successor to the OG death scene.

Cloud and Aerith works better in the story; The play Loveness is a faithful reflection of her tragic story, the song No Promises to Keep about Aerith telling Cloud that they will always be together, the date on the gondola that is later referenced in the Sleeping Forest scene. And the thing about Zack and Aerith, it's been 5 years people move on to other relationships; Furthermore, Marlene tells Zack that Aerith has feelings for Cloud and Zack is a good person and friend who is capable of sacrificing his happiness for others, which is why he really is the hero of this story while Cloud is the protagonist who only seeks peace and happiness; Cloud is not the hero the world deserves but he is the one they need now.
I saw people actually upset at how Zack reacted to finding out aerith does in fact love cloud. If anything that showed how mature and a true friend he is. Dude heard she loved cloud and decided right there well if she loves him I better bring him back. I really don’t like how people right off Cloud x Aerith cause of their love of Zack. It’s kinda odd how Zack’s able to understand Aerith moved on but parts of his fanbase can’t. But that’s what I hate about this game I went in absolutely LOCKED IN on tifa for cloud. But over time Aerith and Cloud grow on me more and more. To the point where I seriously can’t choose between the two.
Ultimately it's up to part 3 where they take it. Personally don't think they will change the canon romance, but hey at least it gets people talking till part 3.
i'm a cloti fan. But Aerith will always have a place in my heart as well. She had to let everyone go even though she really wanted to be with her friends. I think this is what the creators of FFVII wanted.. a story where player can grieve the loss of their valuable characters. And it's truly a master piece!

He will return to her one day. Meaning in death. And Tifa is the woman from another nation who saves the prisoner and lives out his life with her with bliss. But even tho there was no oath between him and the lover he knew they would meet again one day. Basically Tifa is his woman in life and aerith is his woman in death. So realistically there is no need for a ship war lol

I wouldn’t define it as star-crossed lovers. Aerith’s death is tragic but their love is not. You’ll see through Cloud’s journey, that Aerith is always with him in “spirit”/ in his heart.

There are many literal translations based on the word.....but none of them represent something romantic. This is also why anime characters, like Luffy from one piece, calls his crew nakama.
Back when people were making theories about Remake, I theorized that there'd be a point where Aerith would reveal that she is already aware of her fate. I'm still shocked that my theory was correct, but I'm even more shocked at how hard this scene hit me. I cried harder than any other section in the game, and that's saying a lot considering I spent this whole game crying.
So this is how I understand it. The reality(s) where Zack survives (and where Aerith and cloud is in a coma )was created to allow for Aerith and Cloud in the remake timeline to travel back to Zack reality to retrieve a proper functional white materia( using the comatose/sleeping Aerith and Cloud as a conduit). Remake Aerith is awaken in the body of comatose Aerith grabs the fully white materia wakes up remake cloud whose in the comatose Cloud (in wheelchair) go on a date in the sector slums in Zacks reality. Aerith then brings him to the church passes the white materia over to Cloud and pushes him back to Remake reality. Whilst this is happening Zack is distracted with Biggs etc he finally gets back and waits ourside at the church. Unknowingly for Zack, this is where Aerith is handing over the white materia to Cloud . Sephiroth attacks Zack outside the church and sends him into the lifestream. This is the same moment where Aerith pushes Cloud back to Remake reality just in time and Sephiroth then enters the church to kill Aerith. (EDIT: This is what Marlene means when she told zack that when she wakes up sephiroth would kill her, which is what happend). Essentially Zack was mere moments away from reuniting with Aerith and at the same he inadvertantly buys aerith some time before sephiroths enters the church.
I think you're making a lot of sense, however the Stamp in Zack's reality is different than the Stamp in the reality where Aerith and Cloud wake up and go on a date. And there's also the reality where Zack doesn't go to Hojo but to Biggs.
@@SR-kh6yq true . but I think the point of showing different stamps in diffrerent scens is to illustrate that there are infinate realities( where zak is alive) all happening at once not just 2. In rebirth some realities do converge. like when Biggs ask Zak if he wanted to be a merc for hire like cloud but In zaks reality Cloud was never a merc. So no reason for aerith and clouds date reality to converge with any zaks reality.
The problem is the Stamps which are how a player can track the timelines. The stamp doll when Zack sits outside the church is different than the one on Cloud and Aeriths date which is different than the one with Biggs which is different than the one from the First timeline we see Zack. None of those sceens happen in the same timeline.
Dude… I played FF7 the first time when I was 9 years old. I’m now 36. Idk how I feel about this. I wish I had a nerdy friend to discuss it with lol. I was always an Aerith & Cloud person. Then… Zack had to get his own damn game… grrr. And now Cloud kisses Tifa, and Aerith is explaining that there are different types of “like”. But damn it I love Aerith and Cloud as a couple!!! I really hope game 3 gives us a real choice on who to be with. I want the “Cloud and Tifa” and “Aerith and Zack” people to get their happy endings, but dammit my happy ending is Cloud and Aerith!

But also, like total confessions of a bullied kid here, these characters were my friends growing up. I remember getting picked on horribly in school and just wanting to get home so I could escape into FF7. So it is just a game but it’s also not, ya know?

I don't like seeing romantic couples but this was the only couple that I was really happy with instead of all the funny happy moments etc, forgive me but,Tifa and cloud I can't accept it honestly I prefer cloud and aerith a thousand times
I cried for tidus and yuna. I ugly cried for cloud and Aerith. Aerith was kind, beautiful, sweet and funny . I love all the characters but she was too gentle a spirit 😢
It’s the opposite actually. She says there’s different types of likes and never settles on which one. If anything, I took it to mean she wasn’t sure of the nature of her feelings and that’s why this and their date feel very ambiguous because the character isn’t even sure how she feels

Im 39... played the original when I was a kid and few times ever since... this game has something special and it's that with everything that's going on you think there's a chance that this time will be different only to break you once again... the part where she said "whatever happens dont blame yourself" absolutely broke me and started preparing for something I never thought I would feel again.
“It’s been months.” - imagine if Aerith said that. Haha… seriously still crying over this months later. I can’t get this scene out of my mind. So well written and done. Still makes me cry every time I see it. It’s been part of my therapy actually, seeing things that make me cry and feel like a human.
Square... please !!! on behalf of millions of fans from all over the world, we want a meeting in part 3 (final game), we have to see a kiss between these two (lovelesse street would be a good place for that) , we have to there will be a moment of resolution between these two. For anyone thinking even Cloti was a thing the original, cloud literally banged Tifa and dipped to the church to live, this exact church, ffadvent children… The only reason Cloud ended up with Tifa, was because Aerith was dead.
The third game isn’t going to be the same as the movie Advent Children, Kitase confirmed it won’t have the same ending. Remake/Rebirth isn’t the same as the original game because there were so many changes. Rebirth gives so many hints that Cloud and Aerith will reunite in game three.
Cloud loves them both. But Aerith and Cloud were planned as a couple from the beginning, while Tifa was originally planned for Final Fantasy 8 and wasn't actually planned for 7 and that's really a confirmed fact. But it's the fact that Cloud loves them both plus the characters' backstory that gives the story its depth
I’d say Aerith is better suited for him considering they seemed to have more in common with their childhood they both grew up alone and became someone important not to mention Tifa doesn’t even trust cloud for most of this game due to her not remembering cloud being in neibelheim and unlike Aerith she tackles cloud when he’s mind controlled whereas Aerith helps Cloud even when it meant siding with Sephiroth
@@gabematthews4532 Tifa's story with Cloud isn't done though, so it's a bit early to say the devs left her out to push Cloud and Aerith. The whole part of Rebirth has been Cloud not trusting Tifa which is also what Sephiroth wants. That's why all the people saying "Cloud literally pushes Tifa aside, see he prefers Aerith" just miss the how the devs are handling this. I'm happy to eat my words though if Part 3 pushes Aerith hard, but I don't think it will since Tifa has more moments with Cloud.
If you look back on old dev notes, Tifa was actually the only heroine. They later added Aerith and decided to give her a major role. Aerith and Sephorith were even almost siblings and another idea was almost lovers. Thankfully, they didn’t stick with that.

I know a lot of people are meh on her death scene in Rebirth, but let's face it nothing will top the OG FF7 Aerith Death Scene. I wish they would have been more true to the color of clouds eyes. His eyes were blue with a little bit of green from the Jenova cells that were implanted in him. The green became more pronounced when he would use his powers that him, Sepheroth and the others who were made from the Jenova cells had and could use.

This isn't true. Tifa is the better character. She is caring, kind, and tough too. She went through as much trauma as Cloud did and turned out alright. At the same time, she isn't a tease like Aerith who even tries to hold Tsengs hand after he gets stabbed. It's crazy.

If she loves Cloud why didn’t talk to him when she knew he was lying about Nibelheim instead she gets angry with him when she KNOWS he isnt himself but yet she got angry at him. She ignored him her childhood life and they both admitted they hardly hung out because Tifa was busy hanging around other boys growing up. Why didn’t she have any girls that were friends and just boys she couldn’t have been the only girl growing up in her village. Aerith is caring and forgiving and just because she forgives Tseng you take it as flirting? Wow I better be careful whenever I forgive someone they might think I am flirting. Tifa knew Cloud all her life and she doesn’t even urge him to find himself like Aerith does, yes I know she repairs his mind but with Aerith’s help since in the sleepy forest she urges him to try and find himself the one she’s been looking for the real him. So forgiving someone isn’t flirting.
Yeah it gets weird 😅 Cloud likes both but at different times I say. To me Cloud liked Tifa first but it was more of a crush. When he meets Aerith he ends up learning how it feels to actually love someone. Her death is what causes him to be more close to Tifa. He will always love Aerith but that shouldn’t affect how he eventually feels about Tifa. He has strong feelings for both I say. It’s the same with Aerith when it comes to Zack and Cloud.

I still feel betrayed knowing they decided she STILL had to die just to "make the story good" in this one aspect. I'm adamant that Aerith deserved to live; to hell with the whole personal-growth-through-tragedy trope.
I'm rewatching all those scenes in english and I feel that the English translation is a bit bland and simplifies a lot. In French, instead of suggesting another date, Aerith laments that she doesn't have many shared memories with cloud, and Cloud (I had 100% affinity) replies with: Then we will make more. To which Aerith replies by "Thank you, that's what I needed to hear". Then instead of "There's Like and Like", in French she straights up says that she has feelings for clour but she wouldn't know how to explain them. Or like on the Skywheel, when Aerith says that she wants to find cloud, really find him. That's too vague for a romantic date. In the French version she says that now she isn't seeing Zack through cloud but that she wants to see cloud, she wants to know him. I now understand why there's so much conflict with people discussing Tifa and Cloud, they made the english dialogue so vague and open to interpretation while in Japanese or French, they clearly kept the romantic meaning behind the words

I’m sad because in the original Tifa attempted to confess but failed then later … ugh got some sugar I guess. So in the rebirth they just put it together into 1 scene. Aerith got so many sweet tender scenes with Cloud in the original and the two still got nothing.
In Japanese its Cloud calling Aerith his Friend ("Nakama" / comrade) and aerith being unsure which kind of "like" she feels towards Cloud. both affection versions are nearly identical the only exception being aeriths expression at the end high affection she's happy, low affection she's disappointed. do you call your lovers your friend? Oh no.. not the english dub inserting different tones or intent into a scene! thats never happened before. Still hilarious to see aerith get friendzoned by cloud 😂 this is why I stick with Japanese anyways.
It’s a luxury to be able to understand the original rather than relying on localization that was already based on a translation (basically two generations lost from the original). As much as I like the localization, it’s still good to compare and contrast with the original source so as to understand better the original creator’s vision. I don’t speak Japanese but I have 20+ years of Mandarin Chinese under my belt that I can understand the Chinese subtitles for the game which are direct translations of the Japanese version.
in the japanese dialogue cloud says instead of our spot, it was easy, he says "the place i have memories, it was easy". "i dont have many memories," then aerith interject by saying," then make one from here" he replies" that is what i meant". its when aerith realize he likes her. why do you lie. In high affection Cloud tells her that he wants to make a lot more memories with her, and it makes Aerith happy, since she knows he loves her. That's why the follow up line to the scene is always "now I know where we stand"
I believe aerith is now earth. Mother nature. The creator. Mother. The flower. The protector. The weapon. The lifestream itself. literally has lived as multiple different versions of herself and she is now reborn as aerith. To break the cycle. She's protected earth this whole time. She doesn't even speak of death like it's a problem because she's already around everyone manipulating life itself after. If she really wanted to appear in front of the others she would and I think she could. Cloud is going to be her physical weapon. Aerith writes and sings No Promises to Keep a beautiful love song for Cloud and it’s not about Zack, she sings of how she met Cloud on Loveless Street, when people think of the yellow flower it represents reunion and they think of Cloud and Aerith. The church is referred to as “our place” Aerith and Cloud got so much more and an optional kiss you need to get if you get full max romance with Tifa, all I mentioned about Cloud and Aerith is non optional just like her and Cloud holding hands. Listen to the lyrics Aerith sings on stage and listen to the lyrics at the end credits they added more. Also listen to the music playing as they walk through the slums, it’s No Promises to Keep, proof it’s a song about Cloud.

Cloud and Aerith will reunite in game 3 if you romanced Tifa in this game of course Aerith will root for you, why don’t you do one play through and romance Aerith, you won’t get the same dialogue as you did when you romanced Tifa.

I love and respect both ships but they way you word your comments makes it seem like you’re putting both girls against each other and mainly painting aerith as a saint and tifa as some jealous and bitter person when both girls are super sweet and have never shown hatred or agitation towards one another when put in situations with cloud.
Haha. Well, I love this scene so much that I went to watch it in the original Japanese. I can speak Mandarin Chinese so I was able to rely on the Asian version of FF7 Rebirth which has Chinese subtitles that are direct translations of the Japanese dialogue. There are pieces here and there that were fortunately lost due to the cultural differences and localization of the English version. When Aerith says “Thank you” and Cloud reacts with a shock, that moment was literally her confession. But yes, it is unavoidable and something that was lost in translation.

The same place Cloud lives in just to feel close to Aerith in Advent Children.......they really added so much context to the church in such a clever way and it makes it all the more important in AC later on

People don’t realise the Japanese cultural nuances of this scene…
1. In Japanese they usually use ‘suki’ meaning “like” to confess romantic feelings, if you watch romance anime you’ll know that characters usually miss a love confession because they confuse the normal admiration ‘like’ with a romantic ‘like’. So when she says there’s “liking and then there’s liking”, she’s telling him she’s aware of the difference and she’s shy to tell him which one she means.
2. 1:45 when Aerith says “thank you” Cloud looks taken aback. If this is a direct translation from Japanese, saying “thank you” in a romantic context is similar to saying “I love you”. Yuna says “I love you" in english and "Thank you” in Japanese to Tidus in ffX as well. Which would explain his reaction and why she tries brushing it off quickly in embarrassment.

"Whatever happens, don't blame yourself." the look on Cloud's face right then, I think that is when it settled in his mind that something terrible was probably about to happen and that he realized that nothing he could do in the end would stop it. Whoever animated the expressions on the character models did a damn good job.
Legit moments where Cloud looks like he has a single thought in his head, and then moments like this one where you can see the chaotic storm of emotions on his face.
People said they made Cloud crazier than in the OG game, I think they just showed the stuff they always meant to show in the OG FF7. I could see Cloud being this broken from the beginning.

Keep in mind this is low affinity Aerith scene, Cloud dialogue is a bit more receptive in the high affinity version.

@holographicwing In this version he's very nonchalant about Aerith asking him if he wants to do this another time. In the high affinity version when Aerith asks him "oh? Next time?" He responds by smiling softly and saying "yeah. Next time". Basically in that version he's actively looking forward to it and genuinely wants to date her again.
Saying "why not" doesn't really make too much of a difference though in my opinion-it still implies he's open to the idea of it again

Kinda breaks my heart now thinking how in Advent Children movie Cloud of all places lives in Aeriths church, which is their “spot”, their “place” as she sings in the official soundtrack. Also, although the game is not over yet, Aerith reassures him that they don’t even need a promise that they will reunite because it is a fact that they will.
Cloud and Aerith will reunite in game three and game three will have a title of its own and it won’t be called Advent Children and Kitase confirmed it won’t have the same ending as AC, remake/rebirth aren’t the same as the original game, rebirth gives so many hints that Cloud and Aerith will reunite.

People can’t see this or ignore this because they just can’t get over this fate thing. She did die in the OG timeline but was saved in a different one.
Remember Cloud laying down on the bed and he saw Aerith laying on her bed in coma, he can see different timelines which is why he sees the rift in the sky and why he could see Aerith in the end because he was injected with Jenova cells and mako.
Yes! The sword landed on the tile when he saved her in our timeline & on the concrete when she died in a different timeline. My theory is she only died because Sephy is merging worlds and he says the main emotion in most worlds is loss right after it's showing her dead. I think she died in most timelines so when merging worlds together the sum average of what happened in all worlds is the end result. In a Sephy one world reunion world she's dead. But at the end of the next game Cloud's gunna defeat Sephy and make all the worlds go back to their individual worlds & everything that was supposed to be will go back to what it's supposed to be. In our timeline we're playing, she's alive. ❤ Such a masterpiece.

Because think about it, if Cloud and Tifa canonically kissed before this scene, then this is just a giant slap to the face to her because Cloud is saying (regardless of relationship status btw with minor changes), that he would still go on another date with Aerith and this is a story chapter that is NOT optional.

I read a description summary of the story of FFVII that said it's basically about Aerith teaching Cloud to lighten up. I think that's exactly what it's about.
Aerith ignore Cloud’s cocky attitude. She teaches him that it’s okay to be yourself and people will love and accept you for who you are, since he’s felt ashamed that he didn’t make solider, she breaks down his walls he built up for so long, because she knows how it feels to grow up feeling lonely, I never seen Cloud smile as much as he does when he is with Aerith.

@@vaasmontenegro3728Its stuff like this and eventually Tifa not judging Cloud for hiding the truth in the eventual last bits of the game that makes me shed a tear. Especially in remake it just feels very realistic how Cloud is portrayed as someone who is seemingly cold at first but learns to embrace that humanity and finally accept himself to support his friends that really makes this story so great. Its really helped me to let people into my life again in spite of past doubts and get that same sense of happiness.
i just realized that there's small differences of dialogue in this scene, i assume it has to do with the level of affinity you have with aerith. he can either say "why not?" (probably low affinity) which makes the scene a bit more ambiguous or "yeah, next time" while giving aerith a reassuring smile which insinuates that he wants a next date with her (probably high affinity).
In wonder why there is such a difference this far in the game. Thought all that affinity thing should have ended at the Gold Saucer. Why bother making cloud respond different if it’s all gonna be the same straight after?

The whole affinity system sucks imo. Cloud is way too often ooc, and they did a better job in remake. It just doesn't make any sense that it matters in this scene unless they just want more ppl to buy P3 since it's more ambiguous in LA. Hope that they'll remove it for P3. 🤦🏼

People dont realize or simply forgot that Aerith flat out warned Cloud to not to fall in love with her, which made him frustrated beyond belief as he felt rejected by that alone, as well as being compared to Zack. Aerith also holds blame in the lack of intimacy she is able to share with Cloud during the game because she constantly pulls him in two directions (she flirts with and wants to love Cloud and for him to love her back romantically but in the same breath, she will also tell him no and that bad things will happen if they do and to not blame himself WHEN the worst happens, which only frightens Cloud more so he feels he has to be even more stoic and protect her even harder each time. In Cloud's mind, if he protects her properly she can have a future with him because Aerith will have no fear)
Thats why the carousel scene was so poignant and felt canon unlike the Tifa scene.
With Tifa, Cloud was acting unlike himself and it felt like a persona he had as this unfazed, badass swashbuckling hero who says the one liner perfectly and sweeps the girl off her feet. He literally extended his hand, pulled her in and kissed her. Cloud wouldn't do any of that, at least not after Advent Children and even then, he would probably do it differently.
Cloud with Aerith is who he really is. Cloud has always been the bushy tailed, shy, awkward but idealistic and brave type. Even in regards to romance, he wouldn't even be able to express himself so boldy, hell he didnt even reveal who he was to Tifa when he was a Shinra infantryman out of embarrassment for not being SOLDIER 1st or 2nd Class. Cloud finally saying "give me a harder one next time" shows his massive growth with Aerith on a romantic level qnd he was even egtting into the energy of the date near the end before he cpuld sense sometjing was wrong and pressed Aerith for answers, which has always been the microcosm for their relationship.
Cloud and Aerith are legit soulmates and even Zack could see that.

It seems pretty easy to influence Cloud, like when the old lady told him to really listen when Tifa talks. So maybe he was talked into taking bolder moves by someone. I think that's partially the reason why she didn't just come right out and say I love you to him as well, she wanted to confess to him in a way that didn't completely rip his heart out later on so she almost said it kind of sneakily

I always cheered for Tifa X Cloud because i felt that Aerith never stoped liking Zack. But man, after this game and the scenes between Cloud and Aerith, it's more claryfing that they love each other. And her death hit me a lot harder that i expected. What a masterpiece my god.

0:30 I don't like how the developers animated him in that moment. He doesn't move at all while saying 'I mean, why not?' It looks a bit too stiff to me. A few seconds earlier, he appeared more 'lively' while talking.
Additionally, when Aerith is confessing to him, he is already facing her, and the position he takes is only when he says 'yeah, next time.'(from the high affection scene). So, in my conclusion, the scene was initially animated with high affection towards Aerith, while the 'why not' part seemed squeezed in to fit the other routes. Boom.
The most touching scene in the game, by far. Absolutely wrecked me. It goes a bit off the rails after this but I'm so glad we have this.

This is the true emotional "death" scene IMO, and it was done really well. It gave a Cloud and Aerith a final farewell and Aerith still tried to comfort Cloud by telling him to not blame himself. And the scene with Sephiroth slowly walking through the Church is absolutely chilling. They can never remake the stabbing death scene or the surprise and emotions it left. But this scene was just a masterpiece and a successor to the OG death scene.

Cloud and Aerith works better in the story; The play Loveness is a faithful reflection of her tragic story, the song No Promises to Keep about Aerith telling Cloud that they will always be together, the date on the gondola that is later referenced in the Sleeping Forest scene.
And the thing about Zack and Aerith, it's been 5 years people move on to other relationships; Furthermore, Marlene tells Zack that Aerith has feelings for Cloud and Zack is a good person and friend who is capable of sacrificing his happiness for others, which is why he really is the hero of this story while Cloud is the protagonist who only seeks peace and happiness; Cloud is not the hero the world deserves but he is the one they need now.

I saw people actually upset at how Zack reacted to finding out aerith does in fact love cloud. If anything that showed how mature and a true friend he is. Dude heard she loved cloud and decided right there well if she loves him I better bring him back. I really don’t like how people right off Cloud x Aerith cause of their love of Zack. It’s kinda odd how Zack’s able to understand Aerith moved on but parts of his fanbase can’t.
But that’s what I hate about this game I went in absolutely LOCKED IN on tifa for cloud. But over time Aerith and Cloud grow on me more and more. To the point where I seriously can’t choose between the two.

Back when people were making theories about Remake, I theorized that there'd be a point where Aerith would reveal that she is already aware of her fate.
I'm still shocked that my theory was correct, but I'm even more shocked at how hard this scene hit me. I cried harder than any other section in the game, and that's saying a lot considering I spent this whole game crying.

So this is how I understand it. The reality(s) where Zack survives (and where Aerith and cloud is in a coma )was created to allow for Aerith and Cloud in the remake timeline to travel back to Zack reality to retrieve a proper functional white materia( using the comatose/sleeping Aerith and Cloud as a conduit). Remake Aerith is awaken in the body of comatose Aerith grabs the fully white materia wakes up remake cloud whose in the comatose Cloud (in wheelchair) go on a date in the sector slums in Zacks reality. Aerith then brings him to the church passes the white materia over to Cloud and pushes him back to Remake reality. Whilst this is happening Zack is distracted with Biggs etc he finally gets back and waits ourside at the church. Unknowingly for Zack, this is where Aerith is handing over the white materia to Cloud . Sephiroth attacks Zack outside the church and sends him into the lifestream. This is the same moment where Aerith pushes Cloud back to Remake reality just in time and Sephiroth then enters the church to kill Aerith. (EDIT: This is what Marlene means when she told zack that when she wakes up sephiroth would kill her, which is what happend). Essentially Zack was mere moments away from reuniting with Aerith and at the same he inadvertantly buys aerith some time before sephiroths enters the church.
I think you're making a lot of sense, however the Stamp in Zack's reality is different than the Stamp in the reality where Aerith and Cloud wake up and go on a date. And there's also the reality where Zack doesn't go to Hojo but to Biggs.

In rebirth some realities do converge. like when Biggs ask Zak if he wanted to be a merc for hire like cloud but In zaks reality Cloud was never a merc. So no reason for aerith and clouds date reality to converge with any zaks reality.
The problem is the Stamps which are how a player can track the timelines. The stamp doll when Zack sits outside the church is different than the one on Cloud and Aeriths date which is different than the one with Biggs which is different than the one from the First timeline we see Zack. None of those sceens happen in the same timeline.
Dude… I played FF7 the first time when I was 9 years old. I’m now 36. Idk how I feel about this. I wish I had a nerdy friend to discuss it with lol. I was always an Aerith & Cloud person. Then… Zack had to get his own damn game… grrr. And now Cloud kisses Tifa, and Aerith is explaining that there are different types of “like”. But damn it I love Aerith and Cloud as a couple!!! I really hope game 3 gives us a real choice on who to be with. I want the “Cloud and Tifa” and “Aerith and Zack” people to get their happy endings, but dammit my happy ending is Cloud and Aerith!

But also, like total confessions of a bullied kid here, these characters were my friends growing up. Im 39... played the original when I was a kid and few times ever since... this game has something special and it's that with everything that's going on you think there's a chance that this time will be different only to break you once again... the part where she said "whatever happens dont blame yourself" absolutely broke me and started preparing for something I never thought I would feel again.

The only reason Cloud ended up with Tifa, was because Aerith was dead.
The third game isn’t going to be the same as the movie Advent Children, Kitase confirmed it won’t have the same ending. Remake/Rebirth isn’t the same as the original game because there were so many changes. Rebirth gives so many hints that Cloud and Aerith will reunite in game three.
This isn't what happened lol. They formed a family together. He even stepped on Aeriths flowers to get to Tifa when she was hurt.

But Aerith and Cloud were planned as a couple from the beginning, while Tifa was originally planned for Final Fantasy 8 and wasn't actually planned for 7 and that's really a confirmed fact. But it's the fact that Cloud loves them both plus the characters' backstory that gives the story its depth

The whole part of Rebirth has been Cloud not trusting Tifa which is also what Sephiroth wants. That's why all the people saying "Cloud literally pushes Tifa aside, see he prefers Aerith" just miss the how the devs are handling this. I'm happy to eat my words though if Part 3 pushes Aerith hard, but I don't think it will since Tifa has more moments with Cloud.
If you look back on old dev notes, Tifa was actually the only heroine. They later added Aerith and decided to give her a major role. Aerith and Sephorith were even almost siblings and another idea was almost lovers. Thankfully, they didn’t stick with that.

I wish they would have been more true to the color of clouds eyes. His eyes were blue with a little bit of green from the Jenova cells that were implanted in him. The green became more pronounced when he would use his powers that him, Sepheroth and the others who were made from the Jenova cells had and could use.

This isn't true. Tifa is the better character. She is caring, kind, and tough too. She went through as much trauma as Cloud did and turned out alright. At the same time, she isn't a tease like Aerith who even tries to hold Tsengs hand after he gets stabbed. It's crazy.

Cloud likes both but at different times I say. To me Cloud liked Tifa first but it was more of a crush. When he meets Aerith he ends up learning how it feels to actually love someone. Her death is what causes him to be more close to Tifa. He will always love Aerith but that shouldn’t affect how he eventually feels about Tifa. He has strong feelings for both I say. It’s the same with Aerith when it comes to Zack and Cloud.

I'm rewatching all those scenes in english and I feel that the English translation is a bit bland and simplifies a lot.
In French, instead of suggesting another date, Aerith laments that she doesn't have many shared memories with cloud, and Cloud (I had 100% affinity) replies with: Then we will make more. To which Aerith replies by "Thank you, that's what I needed to hear".
Then instead of "There's Like and Like", in French she straights up says that she has feelings for clour but she wouldn't know how to explain them.
Or like on the Skywheel, when Aerith says that she wants to find cloud, really find him. That's too vague for a romantic date. In the French version she says that now she isn't seeing Zack through cloud but that she wants to see cloud, she wants to know him.
I now understand why there's so much conflict with people discussing Tifa and Cloud, they made the english dialogue so vague and open to interpretation while in Japanese or French, they clearly kept the romantic meaning behind the words

In Japanese its Cloud calling Aerith his Friend ("Nakama" / comrade) and aerith being unsure which kind of "like" she feels towards Cloud. both affection versions are nearly identical the only exception being aeriths expression at the end high affection she's happy, low affection she's disappointed. do you call your lovers your friend? Oh no.. not the english dub inserting different tones or intent into a scene! thats never happened before. Still hilarious to see aerith get friendzoned by cloud 😂

It’s a luxury to be able to understand the original rather than relying on localization that was already based on a translation (basically two generations lost from the original). As much as I like the localization, it’s still good to compare and contrast with the original source so as to understand better the original creator’s vision. I don’t speak Japanese but I have 20+ years of Mandarin Chinese under my belt that I can understand the Chinese subtitles for the game which are direct translations of the Japanese version.

memories, it was easy". "i dont have many memories," then aerith interject by saying," then make one from here" he replies" that is what i meant". its when aerith realize he likes her. "cloud its nice to hear, also it depends on who you romance it sounds like you romanced Tifa
why do you lie. In high affection Cloud tells her that he wants to make a lot more memories with her, and it makes Aerith happy, since she knows he loves her. That's why the follow up line to the scene is always "now I know where we stand"

I believe aerith is now earth. Mother nature. The creator. Mother. The flower. The protector. The weapon. The lifestream itself. literally has lived as multiple different versions of herself and she is now reborn as aerith. To break the cycle. She's protected earth this whole time. She doesn't even speak of death like it's a problem because she's already around everyone manipulating life itself after. Aerith writes and sings No Promises to Keep a beautiful love song for Cloud and it’s not about Zack, she sings of how she met Cloud on Loveless Street, when people think of the yellow flower it represents reunion and they think of Cloud and Aerith. The church is referred to as “our place” Aerith and Cloud got so much more and an optional kiss you need to get if you get full max romance with Tifa, all I mentioned about Cloud and Aerith is non optional just like her and Cloud holding hands. Listen to the lyrics Aerith sings on stage and listen to the lyrics at the end credits they added more. Also listen to the music playing as they walk through the slums, it’s No Promises to Keep, proof it’s a song about Cloud.

It’s obvious the remake aeris knows her fate which explains why at times she’s reluctant to express herself and why she motivates tifa to be more bold with hers. While I prefer tifa I tend to get annoyed when aeris feels like she’s on the back burner because she’s super sweet and a very kind person to the whole party
Cloud and Aerith will reunite in game 3 if you romanced Tifa in this game of course Aerith will root for you, why don’t you do one play through and romance Aerith, you won’t get the same dialogue as you did when you romanced Tifa.

@@vaasmontenegro3728 the parties affections don’t matter at all, i’ve romanced both girls (separate play throughs) and aerith roots for tifa either way simply because she knew her fate from the start. I love and respect both ships but they way you word your comments makes it seem like you’re putting both girls against each other and mainly painting aerith as a saint and tifa as some jealous and bitter person when both girls are super sweet and have never shown hatred or agitation towards one another when put in situations with cloud.

Haha. Well, I love this scene so much that I went to watch it in the original Japanese. I can speak Mandarin Chinese so I was able to rely on the Asian version of FF7 Rebirth which has Chinese subtitles that are direct translations of the Japanese dialogue. There are pieces here and there that were fortunately lost due to the cultural differences and localization of the English version. When Aerith says “Thank you” and Cloud reacts with a shock, that moment was literally her confession. But yes, it is unavoidable and something that was lost in translation.
