  • Would you believe that we have to remove the roof to put an air conditioning switch in? I would not have thought this to be the case. The fan switch cannot be installed from within the cabin. The roof must come off. Ludford comes over to help too.
In this video we have to repair the plenum for the fan. In doing so, we use an epoxy. This is my favorite epoxy. I keep a tube or two in my tool box all the time. It sets in about 5 minutes and works like a champ.

Me too. I would have thought it would have a clip that it would unscrew and I could put it back... one thing is for sure, the control panel is not designed to move and that's probably a good thing! The radio is mounted to the same bar too. I could imagine if it were held only to the ceiling (without any metal bar) the controls or radio would be bouncing around after so many years of being tossed about! Thanks for watching! Kevin

Thanks for the excellent video series on the M4900 AC. I have an M4900 with a dysfunctional AC. It seems to be leaking somewhere. Now that you have gone through the whole process, what would your order of operations be to diagnose and repair/replace parts, if you had to do it all over again? Thank you very much for your time.

Mr. Bond-Watts, Thanks for watching and leaving your question. The first thing I would do is check to see if the compressor is coming on. This might take two folks. If you stand on the right side and push the button, you should hear it come on and go off when you push it a second time. If it is working then you next option is a dyed refrigerant and either a black light or glasses that help you see where the dye is leaking from. The roof comes off very easy, as you can see from the video. After the dye has been injected (which can be done with a small can of refrigerant). Run the tractor and begin looking for the needle in the haystack. Lets pause for a minute. Before you go to the trouble of injecting dye, do a deep dive and look at every ac line. If you have dust on the tractor, the refrigerant will reveal itself easier. It is going to look like an oil spot. If there is a leak, it will be where the tube is touching something else. Follow the tubes from the compressor all the way to the condenser and then into the roof area of the evaporator. If there is a leak you may be able to see it. If you can't find it, it's time to inject dye. The do this search again. Don't be intimidated by the roof removal or any thing in this process. You can do it all very easily. Let me know if this helps. Kevin

Nice video. I have two questions. 1. Did the blue light in the old switch work before you removed it? 2. If the nuts on the two screws that hold the control panel in place had been affixed to the housing (such as using Tinnerman U-type spring nuts ) so that the screws could be removed, would you have been able to change out the switch, or was there something else preventing it? Thanks

@ ZZZRSC. Yes and No. Sometimes it did and some times it didn't. I believe that was the culprit all along. Sometimes sernior moments can be expensive! I'm not 100% sure but it still may have required removal of the roof to get tot he switch. Removing the roof is very easy. I'm glad I pulled the roof. I found more damage on the a/c ducts from when the roof was damaged from a tree branch falling on it. Thanks for watching and posting your question. If you need more help, let me know. Kevin

Sometimes I can't see the forest through the trees... Lots of work to get to the switch in my case. Hope this helped you not go through what I went through to find the problem! Our ac is still working strong. Thanks for watching and posting your comment! Kevin
