    What a cool video!! I took pictures of the work train removing the tracks from Lindsay when I was a kid. I've been at CN for 12 years now, and spent the first 5 years in Mac. It's wild to see the yard in 1990. Similar, but so different. Especially the different yardmasters you had to talk to to get around. "Let YB know we're on York 3." In other words, make sure we have our light lol.

      What terminal do you work out of now?

      @@Andycap1001 I didn't think Oshawa was still a terminal. I lived in Pickering when I first hired on Toronto South. I bid to Oshawa a few months later and worked there on and off for the 1st year. I wanted to get on the road board so I bid back to Toronto before the next change of card. Eventually I saw the light and bid to Belleville.

      @@johnwallington6127 Not too many of us left in Oshawa compared to the hay day when there were 70+ in the terminal. I spent most of my time at west control, although I pulled my fair share of pins at the hump. Once the bid came up for Oshawa, I was long gone. If I ever get bumped, I'll be heading to Belleville as well. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get to Lindsay from Mac? Did you head all the way to Scarborough, and head north from there on the Uxbridge? Seems like it would make for a long day, even if you only had a handful of cars.

      @@Andycap1001 In those days Hagerman was a diamond. There were connecting tracks eastbound from the York to get to the Uxbridge west and east.

    @John Wallington I remember driving up to Lindsay with you to see a couple of cars on the ground at the yard. I don't remember if you had worked the job when it happened. If I recall a rail turned over and the cars were loads of plastic pellets.

      Yes John it was our train that went on the ground, on CP trackage. Match stick ties.

    Are those special spring switches at the shops at Mac? I see so many videos of power just running through them not lined up. Great video!

    • @johnwallington6127
      @johnwallington6127  ปีที่แล้ว

      According to "Yard Switches" in the UCOR, yard switches with diamond shaped targets are called "Automatic Switches". They are not spring loaded but you are allowed to trail through improperly lined switches. Under winter conditions you must hand throw an automatic switch before trailing though it.

      Hey John, I live in Blackwater, I can confirm the tracks are gone, east from Uxbridge to Lindsay. NO rails left in Lindsay at all as far as I know.
      But this is really cool footage coming thru Blackwater, it's a shame you shut the camera off just before getting to the side by side bridges just north east out of Blackwater.. Those bridges are one one of my favourite spots. I moved here in 95 and grew up on the trail, the tracks were pulled up by then, but the water tower base and the platform, and a few little sheds were still there for a few years untill the conservation cleaned it all up. The medium sized shed in Blackwater, to the left, is now situated behind The Brick a Brac, Antique store @ hwy 12 & Blackwater Rd, only a couple hundred meters from where it is in the video.
      I guess this had to be one of the last handful of trips up this line eh?!!
      Thanks for sharing!!

      All trains to Lindsay were small at the end. That's why they closed the line.
