Home eggs are nice tasting, but you need to look after them and feed them good food which is available food scraps from home or outside resources and some chicken grain, the more scraps foods less grain.😊
I'm what I'd call young. 27 and I grew up hunting and killing our own chickens. Once I moved into my own place I had chickens. I had a rooster and occasionally I'd hatch a few eggs out, and if we got an extra rooster or 2 they would grow for a time then be culled for food. Turned out even though I live in a rural area councle says no rossters one day ranger turned up and tried to take the lot with no warning. Safe to say I didn't let him take them and negotiated to allow me time to find them a new home for them they were like family I couldn't let them go just anywhere
I hap the police rock up because of my polish top hat rooster I live in town and one morning there was a police officer walking through the yard he wanted to shoot the rooster (not kidding) I ended pleading with them and quickly found a place to keep the rooster...
Mate I have had chooks my whole life. I have never had less than 3 (when I was a bachelor living alone) but usually 8-15. These days I have chickens and turkey but have also kept ducks, geese and quail. Quail are good for quick turnover if you enjoy their meat. Turkey are slow and come with other challenges but very worthwhile, chooks are easy but you need to move your mindset from “pet” to “livestock”, then you can enjoy your chooks at every level. And if you move away from hylines you will get natural incubators. No rooster? No problem, order fertile eggs online and enjoy the journey.
We had some we just grew as meat chickens when the kids were little and we were living on a friends farm. My granddaughter was sitting next to me watching this. She loves her chickens for eggs and says no to eating quails
For those who don’t eat eggs, but want the manure/organic condiments option then consider a pet Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. We had one in our family for 60 years, he would dig his way out of his 4’x4’ portable cage then we’d move to fresh ground for him to dig and poo. All his seed, toast, celery, greens, cuttle fish etc mixed into soil. And chooks don’t talk, cockies do.
Lost many chooks ...but hey least we don't have grizzly bears 😂...it's a commitment a daily basis...I found the best tip is get a suitable breed..(Australorps are a great choice . hopefully there hens😅😅😅

It is all about the quality of the feed!

Yeah pretty standard for council's to have rules about chook numbers and no roosters

haha, not the same bro, funny though as I used to have a Sulphur Crested!
Sometimes you can tell, perhaps a character thing, It’s like having Ossis Ostrich as brother.
They look so content Marty. Excellent.
Off topic. It's all approved to reduce cow farts.
Warnings for handlers of chemicals, men in particular
That's up and running, so crazy
Fresh chicken eggs are the best I miss having my own chickens
The best for sure if you like eggs
Marty have you thought of geese? Need a pair they will protect the quail and chooks wonderful guards for the property. Real characters also
I may do, I dont think our place is big enough for that Phil
