    I love the sentiment about how this thing exists in nature to put in check the other dangerous creatures in this universe, but it's also horribly aggressive and dangerous itself. Like, if my house is infested with like giant venomous spiders, Im not going to attempt to solve the problem by setting loose a bunch of wild aggressive death lizards in my house. Even if they solve my spider problem I still now have to deal with the giant angry reptiles in my home and thats not any _better_

      (To specify, it's definitely not just the black dragons, elders like Nakarkos literally wear the bones of their countless victims as armor, and live in a nest that is an amalgamation of monster skeletons, all of which previous prey)

      @@gloomyallo1830
      Eh, Black Dragon tier monsters are stronger than Nerg sure, but a lot of them don’t exhibit Black Airforce Energy.
      The most common real world example of an animal that fits is the Honey Badger: a creature so hell-bent on its given objective that it could not give less of a crap about not only those around it - but itself as well.
      Fatalis and it’s variants while incredibly strong, are supposedly smart enough to desire retaining their lives. This is especially the case with the Iceborne fatty - who is smart enough to meld specific hunters to its body to aid its armor.
      We need more information on Miralis - which is why I really wish Capcom would give us another underwater combat game - as he’s a tad outdated nowadays.
      Safi’Jiiva is a good example, even though he’s technically not a Black Dragon. Though he is black dragon tier - so he kinda counts. His rage targeted state and overcharge state make him easier to kill, yet he doesn’t give a crap. He just wants whomever has hurt him dead.
      Alatreon is also a really good example, as his whole shtick is that he’s unstable - and just wants to destroy.
      So, 2/9 bad boy dragons fit.

    Fun fact: nergigante reproduces asexually, through the very spikes it shoots off.
    In this spike a new Nergigante will grow and hatch as an exact clone of it's parent.
    I can imagine that this spike will be located on a wounded or dead elder dragon, so the young births into a buffet, kinda like with the tarantula hawk.

    Fun fact: nergigante hunt elder dragons for they have a potent version of bio energy (mh way of saying life force) and after making a kill and eating it. Nergigante kind absorbs it and at that point when one of spikes fall off, the spikes will act like eggs and thus creating new small nergigante
    So yes nergigante does asexual reproduction

    • @starsilverinfinity
      @starsilverinfinity ปีที่แล้ว +22

      You know this makes me wonder if Nergi is an artificial elder dragon - cause larger creatures like it prefer sexual reproduction to keep the gene pool fresh but it just clones itself?

      There’s no such thing as dragon energy, this isn’t a fantasy, it’s a sci fi, and the explanation that is agreed upon, although admittedly it’s not confirmed as canon, but it is the scientific explanation, is that monster hunters monsters and especially the elder dragons are radiotrophic, that is being able to metabolise from ionising radiation, hence why many elders hang out arounf and eat minerals.

    Additional lore;
    Ruiner has been specifically stated to be above anything in the natural ecosystem of iceborne, even above the likes of Shara Ishvalda and Xeno’Jiva. The only dragons stronger are the supernatural dragons; the first class monsters which are Fatalis, Alatreon and Safi (and the other black dragons)
    The lore data booklet even confirms Nerg is the one and only predator to Shara Ishvalda; and the likes of Furious Rajang and Savage Deviljho can only momentarily keep up with Nergigante before being overwhelmed.
    This is due to Nerg having instantaneous regeneration (as stated in mhstories 2) and infinite growth based on this regeneration. The more damage he takes the stronger he gets, as stated in mhw iceborne. Ruiner Nerg even developed the “iron spike” which are literally spikes made of pure metal that Nerg Grew overtime as he devoured beings with strong bio energy.
    It’s also stated that Nerg does not consciously purify the ecosystem; and him hunting mainly elder dragons is only a bi-product of what he truly searches for. Bio energy. Nergigante searches for beings with extraordinary high bio-energy and consumes them for the sake of growing stronger. Anything is on the menu; but he prefers the stronger beings. You even see at the start of world that Nerg eats a Barroth, which is a lower tier monster but was probably one of the stronger monsters in the area.
    The game devs have gone out of their way to claim Nerg is the strongest being in the natural ecosystem; officially placing him as the 4th (or 5th of you count Zorah above him) ranking monster in Mhw Iceborne. Only below Safi, Fatalis, Alatreon (and Zorah if you count him).
    Fun fact; Kulve taroth is Nergigante’s cousin by nature; they even reference this in the kulve taroth siege in Mhw iceborne.

And this dragon wouldn't be needed to exist to "cull" the dragon population because ecosystems balance themselves. If there's too many dragons, they hunt too many things, their food sources get smaller, dragons starve to death, boom, less dragons again. Works with any carnivore.

    Fun Fact: Nergigante reproduces asexually which pretty much means that he actually clones himself.
    The way he does that is by detachting his spikes, from which another Nergigante will begin to grow.
    Considering how often he does that, well...

    • @welldone2312
      @welldone2312 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      not every spike will eventually become nerg. it needs a special condition where the parent feeds off a high concentration of bio energy and transfering it to only one of the spike so its concentrated to one. the guild once try giving a nerg spike some bio energy, it started to grow as a zygot however the energy is not enough therefore it stops developing

    A lot of people say Nergigante isn't as powerful as other Elders and isn't as "epic" for lack of a better word. But I think what makes him Elder and mystically powerful compared to a standard monster is his regeneration. This dragon might not be able to control elements or end civilisations, but it is literally Immortal. Every time it dies, it will eventually get back up stronger. The Hunter fights Nergigante several times across the whole of monster hunter world, even all the way through Iceborne. That whole time, it is ONE Nergigante. Not lots of a species, just one monster that gets back up every time we bring it down

  • @yourtaxcollector7198
    @yourtaxcollector7198 ปีที่แล้ว

    And despite all that, there is still one opponent who stands above the rest.
    The hunter themselves.

  • @ProcyonDei
    @ProcyonDei ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The thing about Nergigante is that it's not actually an Elder Dragon. It is referred to as an Elder Dragon by technicality, but otherwise has none of the elemental powers that are commonly shared by Elder Dragons. Nergigante is basically the normal guy that one day desided to train so hard that he became able to trade blows with superpowered guys, like Garou from One Punch Man...

    • @Doomguyhunter1
      @Doomguyhunter1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Elder dragons are classified by them having "pure energy" on top of normal bioenergy and nerg has that.

    Man I just love Nergigante, it’s my favorite monster in the franchise! On paper, it’s a lot more simple than most Elder Dragons, but looking further shows that it’s just as wild! To its lust for powerful bio energy, and it’s effects on the ecosystem! Even it’s life cycle is insane! Another thing about Nergigante is that it doesn’t have an element, it just fights with brute force and brute force alone, and yet even those like the mighty king of the winds, Kushala Daora, fall to it. Who needs elements, when you can just bash their heads in with your own fist!
