    Perhaps the most interesting thing is Madden on 17:10 asking for serious studies on concussions and the creation of what today is known as concussion protocol. The guy was truly a visionary and knew everything about football.

      I noticed that too, good catch. Madden was the best. Not only did he have the enthusiasm and the one liners, but he had such an incredible insight about the game and really was ahead of his time in his thinking.

      It's true, but the other thing I've noticed from watching these older videos is Madden talks a lot about REALLY obvious stuff. Like, on the last drive, he's talking about the value of spiking the football on 1st down of a moving clock with less than a minute and no TOs left. I don't know if it's just the audience being less educated during that time period but it's almost painful to listen to some of the obvious stuff he says.

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In 93' they were, but the 49ers should've beaten them in 92', and probably in 95' had they not fallen apart in the 2nd half in Atlanta at end of season, and gotten the home-field advantage throughout, which would've also meant avoiding their kryptonite, the Packers. Of course, had they paid to keep reigning DPO Deion Sanders & their lone true tailback Ricky Watters, it never would've come down to that game in Atlanta, plus they would've blown the Falcons out.

    The best between the 49ers and Cowboys was 92,93,94 those games were the best three NFC Championship Games in a row those games were better then the Superbowls because you knew who ever won those NFC Championship Games was going to win the Superbowl like they did Cowboys 92,93 49ers 94, then the Cowboys went back to the Superbowl in 95 then both teams started to go down hill both teams have Five SuperBowl Championshis I think the New England Patriots have five to the only team that has more Pittsburgh Steelers with Six the most in the NFL, Niners were the first to win Five,95 is the last time the Cowboys have been to a Superbowl I believe 2012 was the last time the 49ers was at a Superbowl !

    Great upload, this 49er Cowboy rivalry was epic, especially int he early 90's. But this was the year the Cowboys dynasty crumbled under it's own weight. Aging players that got complacent, coach Switzer was way to lenient and the salary cap done them in a couple years later. I hope this rivalry comes back in the coming years.

    • @PlanetEarth3141
      @PlanetEarth3141 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it would be nice to restablish that rivalry. Here's the deal though. It happened because as the two best NFC teams and probable one the winner of the next Superbowl, TV pitted them against each other for viewers and commercial income. To get that rivalry going again they both need to be the two best again.

    I still remember people teasing Troy Aikman about being a weak quarterback, who dived too much. With the kind of hits that man took, it's no wonder why he might have started trying to evade getting sacked. That first sack looked like it could have easily broken his neck, and then to think he took another hit like that the previous week. I'd be amazed if the man is still able to string a complete sentence together in this current day.

      The 49ers pretty much conducted a soft rebuild from 2000-2001 and became a treadmill team (never getting past the divisional round) until 2003...after that it’s been nearly 15 years of ineptitude aside from three great years (2011-2013).

      Peezster , niners should have had 1 more ring in that 94-97 window , perhaps in 97. They would have faced Denver in bowl and would have physically dominated that team just as they did during that regular season. Matchup nightmare for broncos But SF couldn’t get past GB in post season 3 years in a row , thanks to T Owens later this season (end zone TD drops).
      Rice or no Rice, this SF team was very well balanced and hard to beat

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@publikenemi49 Garrison Hearst getting hurt towards the end of the regular season was an even greater killer than losing Rice that yr. 49ers still featured other talented receivers, but Hearst gave them that 1 power back w/ game-breaking speed, you could hand the ball off to 20+times a game to keep the defense honest. He rushed for over a thousand yards in just 12 1/2 games that yr. The weakness of that Packers offense was at stopping the run. See how Emmitt Smith & Terrell Davis just ran wild on them. Hearst's 1st game back was the Championship game vs. Green Bay, and he was clearly not fully healed. He carried the ball 8x for 12yds. They still should've handed him the ball more, but the collarbone was clearly still hurting him, plus he was rusty. This effected the 49ers play-calling more than even not having the great Jerry Rice in the game, although Rice's presence alone would've opened up the rushing lanes more for Hearst, and single-coverage for everybody else, and just a couple more 1st downs can totally change a game like that, so not having Rice was also a huge loss to the 49ers. 49ers defense actually had the personnel up front to confront Terrell Davis & make the Broncos 1-dimensional, so Denver's chances against the 49ers would've been much less than against the Packers.

    • @publikenemi49
      @publikenemi49 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Arson Hakobyan I thought I had a decent memory of this niner era but you have an amazing memory. I recall Hearst wrecking his ankle at ATL in div round following year , but do not recall collar bone in 97.
      He was awesome though and suited that niner team perfectly. After Watters and before Hearst , they were a team in search an elite RB.
      Seems like they were always lacking something 95, 96 - but even with loss of Rice , I really felt 97 was the year. Nope.
      They gave me a lot of good years though. (disappointments too, 1990)

    17 minutes in: Madden stated "the NFL needs a comprehensive program on concussions." And the NFL was listening. They performed studies, didn't like the results, and would hide findings for the next decade in employing medical professionals to distort and deny. The game is great today because of the players we're watching. The NFL & Ownership are SLIME; as they enjoy their new Yachts.

    The graphic at 19:40 is explained simply by the fact that in 1996, Dallas tended to pull Emmitt out of the offense in the red zone and on 3rd downs. Dallas’ offensive production took a significant hit when they decided to try to micromanage Smith in the offense.

      The 1997 season was such a difficult season to watch if you were a fan of the 90’s Dynasty. What started off with a dominant victory over Pittsburgh turned into a 6-10 season with images of tears flowing out of Michael Irvin in the season finale because of how bad the team fell in only two seasons. Sad part is, it never should’ve came to this. The Offense had grown stale and predictable. Other than Larry Allen, Tuinei, Newton, and Williams were all getting older with Clay Shiver at Center. Eric Bjornson and a rookie David LaFleur were the Tight Ends which tells you all you need to know why they had red zone problems that season. Of course, Emmitt was never the same after his short paralysis injury in the season opener against the Bears in 1996. He was banged up, constant nagging injuries and seemed like he was playing more tentative. Switzer lost the team because of his lackadaisical style. It’s no wonder they had a slight resurgence in 1998 with a new innovative coach in Chan Gailey but even that was not enough to beat the Cardinals at Texas Stadium in the playoffs. Coaching can only get you so far, eventually talent has to do the rest and by 1997, talent was few and far between. Sad when I see these videos because of what could have been.

    As great as the Cowboys were in the 90’s, they were really only dominant for 4 years. They were good in 91 and 96. They were great from 92-95. And they just fell off and haven’t come close to a ring since then. Sad for the most popular NFL team in the world.

      That was one of my beefs with Sanders when he came to my team in 1999. He was put back to return punts after Snyder had Mitchell Cut to make cap room for Sanders. Sanders would catch the ball do his dance and get tackled waiting for a hole to open up. He was striking out trying to hit a home run when a base hit would have put the team in Field Goal range or close to it. We could have had Brian Mitchell return punts in 1999 and gotten better field position. He made too many business decisions and not enough football being played

    1:33:07 now there have been some rediculous shenanigans involving referees determining the outcome of a game. But this is right up there with tuck rule and fail mary IMO.
    The fact that a defensive back made contact with the receiver, back judge throws flag, 1st and goal, shady side judge immediately runs over from the middle of the endzone and f*cking talks him out of an obvious pass interference call.
    Very suspect and extremely unreasonable. Very much underrated and not talked about no call. Infact, the last 2 minutes of niner home games in 97 and 98 always seemed to involve the referees bailing them out. This game, Chargers, Saints, Colts and of course the infamous Packers playoff game where Jerry Rice fumbled and lost the game but coincidentally got bailed out by an inadvertent whistle.

    The 49ers should of never let Charles Haley, Deion Sanders, few other players to go, Deion was a very big factor in 1994 with the Niners Haley for the longest time the only NFL Player to have five SuperBowl Rings now Tom Brady does too, Deion was defense of player of the year in 94 he had I believe Eight Interceptions in the regular season he had a Interception in the NFC Championship Game, and a Interception in the Superbowl vs the Chargers in there win,and they never should of let Ricky Waters leave to !

    • @DukeQHa
      @DukeQHa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think if San Francisco really wanted to, they would’ve found a way to keep Deion. Just like the NFL accused Jerry Jones in 1995, Eddie DeBartolo and the 49er organization were accused of circumventing the salary cap to sign Deion and other players in 1994. Deion liked SF, arguably had his best season as a pro ever as a 49er. I think it ultimately came down to his quarrel with Jerry Rice and how he felt under appreciated. Some stated Deion was the missing link for the 49ers and that made Rice pissed because as he stated “wasn’t giving credit to the other 52 men in the locker room”.
      But when he won the Super Bowl in Dallas the next year, the first thing he said when he got to the podium and given the Lombardi trophy was “I didn’t even get to hold this last year.” Kinda messed up how you treat the 1994 Defensive Player of the Year and the one mainly responsible for making your good Defense, Great. Sure the money the Cowboys offered him was unprecedented at the time for a Defensive Player, but he later stated that Oakland actually offered a bigger contract. Ultimately SF got the last laugh as the 49ers beat the Cowboys and Deion at Texas Stadium in 1995 but yet Deion was hosting his 2nd Lombardi in back-to-back seasons in January with another team.
