Pete. Agreed. I have went back and forth on that paint. Luckily, I just scored 3 more! Going to try different styles and one will be bare. Thanks for watching.

Great question. I believe this particular style was made in the second wave of Stanley utility knives, around the 1940s. They produced a lot of variants for many years before introducing the 199. The oldest versions had holes through the body & weren't aluminum. Blade out all the time isn't super safe, I keep mine hanging at my bench and my retractable ones in my bag. Seen guys make leather holsters for them.
Great video. If you put a piece of foam inside that's thicker than the knife, on top of it the spare blades and then close it the blades won't rattle inside (or dull themselves)
I have a few spread out and when I was hanging sheet rock, the rattle was definitely a negative. I'm so glad you shared. These old knives still have a place in the workshop and jobsite for sure. I've seen where folks make leather sheathes for them.
That's the way it goes for me too. I always look on ebay and go "that's too pricy". I then find it in an antique store or flea market, etc. At this point I don't even like going on ebay because I know I will find it for much cheaper in person, usually for only a couple bucks lol.
You didn't spend too much time working on the knife, you were spending the time working on yourself. Great video.
Thank you and thank you for watching
Great job!
You're funny. And you really made that beautiful.
Thank you!
Nothing like a cool project to practice on. Nice job. I have a red and a natural one. Lol.
Nice job! Be careful though, tool restoration can become highly addictive! =D
Thanks ScoutCrafter. I've enjoyed lots of your videos!
It’s lovely, I am going to do mine now! Thank you
Thanks! I've got 3 more I want to redo, very fun project.

I was a little partial to finished tool before the paint, but that's just me. Great video. That knife turned out awesome!

Agreed. Lots of great folks out here. It's a way to really relax as well.
What year was these made? I've had one in my tools for years and never use it because the blade always has to be out

I'm no expert on dating them so I could be off by a decade.

Woah! Genius idea. I have a few more that I want to fix up in the future and I'm definitely going to use that idea. Thanks for watching and sharing!
@@christophwjones I use mine on my belt and if I didn't do that the rattle would have driven me nuts in hours lol

@@christophwjones I love them... Since they don't fold or slide there's nothing that could fail or break so they last virtually forever
Completely! I love my newer flip and easy removal but they don't have the staying power of the classics.
great workmanship can you gift me that tool i live in turkey stanley 299 i can't find it

Yeah! Totally. I use eBay to search then I look in person when I travel. It takes more patience but easier on my dollars.
@@christophwjones And more rewarding to find it, rather than buy it.
100%! It's a thrill to hunt.
