Great saws. Have several… fun to tinker on… hobbiest saws… something breaks get oem parts and on you go! Have a 372,388 and 2 -255’s. Great fun if you enjoy running power saws. The little 255’s are the sleepers! They can rip with simple mods!

i have an addiction to these clone saws. my favorite is a big bore g444 that aaron ported for me. i have a few high end saws also but i like my ported clones just as much as the ones i paid stupid amounts of money for. clones might not be oem quality but they are great in my opinion

Totally agree. I have 62 and a 91cc clone that have been pulled down and cleaned up. The carbs on mine were typical Chinese junk and changed out to Walbro. Poor manifold alignment on the 91 and cleaned up the port. The 91cc is a great saw now and is close to any of my Huskys. With the carby change the 91cc cost me $365 Aus

Christmas present was the 440 clone assembled saw and the 460 mag clone as a "repair kit." We lost a lot of small engine shops to the flooding from Helene, so I've taken my "enthusiast hobby" and gone semi-pro to support the volunteers coming into the area. The 440 is the blueprint to building the 460 and I want to get in to porting. They're the perfect platform to learn and make mistakes with because at the end of the day, another one is ~$175 plus shipping and 4 weeks. If I can get a clone saw to outcut stock OEM, I'm hoping to get performance rebuild requests using the clones as tester-loaners.

I've had a G660 for several years. Bought it for chainsaw milling and had some extra work done to it (porting, max airflow filter, high output oiler, bark box). It is a great saw for the money, but heavy as all get out. Not something you'll carry around the woods. But if I have large wood to cut I throw the 36" bar on that saw and get it done in short order. Like you said, it's not OEM quality, but for anything you aren't using to make a living and only use now and then, do you really need OEM? If you can afford it, by all means, otherwise these saws aren't too shabby.

Although I don’t own a Chinese clone, he’s absolutely right. Don’t buy one and immediately put gas in her.
Take it apart, and check everything over.
If I decide to get one, I’ll be sure to do a full tear down. Clean up the cylinder, do some modest porting, do a vac/pressure test - maybe replace the crank seals etc.
Check all the bolts/flywheel gap also.
since this is a 1:1 clone of a stihl -you can replace key stuff of concern with OEM if need be.

Got a blue g372xp. Wouldn't hold a tune aggravating. Bought it to modify. It had 2 major problems . The carb was junk. Replaced with a $16 carb off amazon. The fuel tank vent didn't vent. Drilled a hole through it with a wire drill. After that I tryed various combinations of pistons and jug modifications all for Iike no money. What I ended up with will absolutely smoke a 372xp, spent less than 1/4 the money, and have spare parts to boot. From what I have heard the stihl copies which are newer have less problems. For the money what is the comparison? Box store made in china vs copy of some of the best saws ever made, made in china? No brainer.

There has got be some loop hole in the emissions laws that they’re jumping through to sell them. The genuine manufacturers must develop new technologies in order to sell their products and pass stricter emission standards. That cost gets passed on to the consumer. Another hidden ‘tax’ for the buyer that will probably lead to the downfall of the reputable manufacturer.

I have watched a few people with channels on here. They buy these the very first action be they male or female young or old is throw the instructions away ! They know it all. Even the fuel mix they ignore. They set them up start them up and go straight in with the screwdriver and start messing with the jet settings. No warm up no running in No. They know it all. No respect for the engineers no respect for the factory who get and preset thousands of these saws no they don't know anything. And it is because of the price. Disrespect because of the price point people love being ripped off they say they don't but really they do.

I would argue that if you don't have the capability of learning how to adjust the carburetor and do maintenance on it, you probably don't have any business buying ANY chainsaw, except maybe an electric one.
Chainsaw maintenance is not hard, and there is a youtube video for EVERYTHING. I burned up my G444 pushing it a little too hard in my mill, and was able to replace the cylinder and piston in under an hour. And I have NEVER done anything like that before. 2-strokes are dead simple machines. Anyone can work on them.
And for the price of a new jug and piston, I could replace the piston every 2 years for the next 30 years, and STILL not have approached the price of the real Stihl version.
