2:34 shows what to solder and where. Great video. I keep coming back to this one for some reason.

Thanks. I eventually followed this and have an emergency cell charger. I wrapped the positive lead around the post and hot glue gunned in place to avoid damaging the circuit board. Soldered the negative since less chance of damage there. Also, there is a circuit breaker in the tip of the car charger. I might use that if there is a concern of damage if a future solar panel is too powerful. As far as low power goes...seems an inhibitor on the cigarette charger limits power coming from the solar panel. Only 5 volts comes out of the attached USB port but testing leads coming from solar panel shows a little over 9 volts . Maybe safety feature avoids frying devices(?). IDK. Anyhow, thanks for showing this is real. And you are correct, no diode was needed using this car charger.

in series , electrolytic capacitor 24 to 38v , 5 to 50 uf or so ....found in most dead power supplies on pc and mother boards....

This is my BY FAR the easiest way to charge 5v devices on solar. I just hooked up an 18v 10w panel to one and it’s charging things just off the light coming from an LED bulb in my kitchen

Photovoltaic / Solar Thermal Technician here: phone will charge in approximatly 10 hours at 1.5 watts. dead car battery will charge in 7 to 10 days. ( car battery, cold cranking amps vs marine battery, amp hours ) Yes slow BUT IT WILL CHARGE.
    i Like, OLE!

    Great video.
You should have the solar panel connected to the battery and then connect the other devices to be charged to the battery.
So that you are charging from the battery NOT from the panel.
Try using a 5W panel instead.

Damn the luck! Nice try though. Perhaps a boost converter to increase your amperage while decreasing your voltage,, for even more power get another panel in series with the first+ your converter

I tried this once from an umbrella solar panel every thing good but the amperage sucks

How long would it take to charge an Android with a 1.5 watt solar panel.

Thank you. I was wondering how to tear these down to use with existing solar panels I have. Now I know it won't work well enough without some kinda diode to prevent back flow and perhaps a stronger portable solar panel...or unless charge a battery instead of direct to phone. Thx

A standalone battery charging station would work great with the voltage converter. Would need a charge controller to prevent overcharging.

    Cool charger brO

It will not work because the solar panel is only 2.5w it will not change the battery fast enough you could put a diode on the positive side of the solar panel which would help The battery from putting the change in to the solar panel

I called it as solenoid. Black and white diod. U can find it in any phone charger. Main purpose for the diod is to prevent current backflow

  • @AndreBellCopywriter

Watching other videos it sounds like a 1N914 diode is needed to block back flow(?). [about $2.50 a pack of 50 at Radioshack].

Usually the solar panel has a diode to prevent back flow.

I don’t know if I would trust the transistor from Harbor freight or the dollar tree the same if you’re gonna make something might want to make it with a better quality products and then I mean if I want to make something’s gonna last and like these are made for situations, where is an emergency so you wanna make sure that you’re able to use it simple as that and going to dollar tree to get something from there just seems cheap do you wanna make something solid make something worth your time and energy 😅

I have done the project like this but my phone's charge is reducing not increasing . What is the problem???

    • @MrDabrudda
      @MrDabrudda  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Your phone probably has dozens of apps running and draining the battery faster than the charger can provide the miliamps. Turn your phone completely off and see if it charges.

There may also be a bad diode somewhere in circuit..
