The only reason you got Two is because the bread maybe only lasted 30 minutes. Put like 2 pounds of chicken legs in there and you will have all the Crawfish you could ever want.

.22 magnum is going a lot faster then a standard .22 so it will go through something like that a lot faster which will then make the entry and exit holes smaller.
Not necessarily true, if it is a hollow point, then more velocity equals more expansion and therefore greater entry and exit. Its called expansion threshold. IF they go too slow they actually wont expand at all
You need to cut the the other end completely off and make a cone that recesses in the barrel with the aluminium wire fence you bought, you'll get way more. Just think like the 2 liter soda bottle trap. Also where you would put the cone there's that lip, make the cone so it folds over the lip and fing a bungee cord With the hooks on both sides and wrap it around the cone for a quick disconnect to get the crayfish and minnows out

Cut multiple holes in the sides 3in wide using the screen you have as a crawfish door flap on each one they can come in but won’t be able to walk out. Use a staple gun to attach the screen next time Make a “trap door” on the side that you can latch shut so you can retrieve your bounty. Last mod; make a hanging bait holder with larger holed screen this way it attracts the bait fish you are going for. Good luck! Can’t wait to see what you guys do to make this better
Add a more stronger mesh in the front and back and drill a hole on one side in the middle. Or instead of drilling a hole, get a 2l bottle cut it in half and fit the funnel side inside. (Like the water bottle minnow trap) Like so Flair sees this!

Cut the other end off and then use wire screen material from Tractor Supply. It is almost the same material used to make store bought minnow traps, it is strong enough that the screws alone will hold it, and you can cut it with wire snips to create entrances for minnows and crawfish.
Gotta make the entrance hole like the store bought traps that funnels into the trap. Use hardware cloth with 1/4 inch spacing. Bread and dog food for minnows and throw some raw chicken or liver in there for crawfish. Use some zip ties to hold the funnel part on, that way you can just cut a few off to get the minnows and crawfish out easier.
Use washers behind the screws to have a tighter grip on the screen. They give you a larger circumference and evens out the pressure to hold it tighter.
Add a cone shape that points inwards so they can crawl into the drum, like the design of the ones you bought maybe a couple of metal rods through the drum to attach the cone shape to stop it from bending and touching the side of the drum. Also you can get the long metal rings with the folding clasp used for holding the lid on a steel oil drum maybe that can be a quick release mechanism for the wire mesh on the bottom
One reason why the .22 bullet holes were bigger was because you were probably using hollow points which expand on impact while the .22 mag bullets were just regular bullets which don’t expand and just go straight through. I’m just guessing I don’t know what kind of rounds you guys are using. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work 👍👍
Put a door in the side. Small hinges and a latch of some kind. And for the entrance cut a bigger hole in the end and make a funnel type deal out of wire mesh some how like a regular minnow trap.. I think you didnt get many because the entrance holes were to high off the bottom... Great job so far boys. I love the idea!
Just to help out to feel better for the mesh not to come loose you can but big washers infront of the screw so the mesh won’t warp/rip around the screw.
Cut an Access square on the side and cover back over with Mesh that you can open and reuse. Make a Mesh funnel on the top just like the other traps. Looks like it would work good after a few mods. Also Raw Meat = Crawdads. Always worked for us before tournaments.
You could take a 5 lb weight and tie it to the side of the barrel inline with one of the holes. That way it sinks faster and will hold the barrel in a position where one of the entrance holes is on the bottom; which will make it easier for the crawfish to get into the trap
Cut as big of a hole as you can between the two small holes on the lid and use your mesh to create a cone then pinch the cone in place with large fender washers and screws so you don’t have to take nearly as many screws out to empty the drum. Also think of using a small pipe and concrete in the pipe and use conduit straps to hold that in the barrel to help sink it and orientate it
Flair I'd recommend cutting the top off and making a cone like entrance out of the sheet wire like you mentioned it'll give them an easier entrance and will act more as a funnel for the minnows aswell

they could probably easily swim out. in a normal minnow trap it is a funnel, that makes it easier to get in, but harder to get out, try to make a funnel out of the metal mesh for the entrance

Mesh both ends. Make entrances on the sides and in the mesh ends. Also make it more funnel shaped on the ends pointed inward.

cut a D shape door in the side, use 2 screws to wire the door closed, then you can empty it
