40 years later the record can _still_ get a crowd moving all over the world.
Oh yes !
From the first note!

From the first line drop
Facts
Nancy is correct. Bam Bam was popular outside Jamaica. One of the best classic. Nancy had one of the best dancehall voice.
Tasia M I grew up on this. I am born in 77 and I live in between 2 bars so I always hear it. I love the beat.
@@annmariebusu9924 nice. We all loved it
instablaster...
One of the greatest songs ever made
White boy from Toronto been bumping this for years
I’m glad she’s taking their asses to court. She is PHENOMENAL. I’m glad I grew up knowing her name, and listening to her fabulous voice. I love you Sista Nancy, I pray you get your coins, you are a revolutionary QUEEN.
Winston Riley died a number of years now.
But didn't the original "bam bam" line derive from Toot and the Maytal's festival song Bam Bam ?
@@normanmccallum610 I had this same point to make. Almost 20 years earlier the original was performed:

Her singing that in the beginning gave me the chills ❤
fucking amen
me too
Back in '82 I don't think she realized just how groundbreaking that track would become.
So much talent from a tiny island!! Spiritual healing tribal beats of the soul...stand up and take a bow jamacia 🙏🏻 big respect
Powerful that's what I'm saying 🇯🇲
💯💯💯💯💯💯
Nuf respect 🇯🇲
Love ❤️ my country Jamaica 🇯🇲 I’m so blessed to have come from there
Black women keep getting taken advantage of in this world and I’m sick of it 😕 but this woman will go down in history you besta believe 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👸🏾👸🏾👸🏾👸🏾
Her singing always makes me feel so good and chilled.
This culture is so deep... the vibe she emits... man it's deep.... we know you own bam bam... money isn't everything... we all love you sista Nancy... jah will reward you... all the way from east Africa Tanzania
She only wanted what was owed to her. Humble!
amani iwe nawe kaka
Ain’t nobody waiting on a pretend award in a place that doesn’t exist
She owns (her rendition) of Bam Bam, but I noticed she didn't mention about the ORIGINAL, performed about 20 years earlier by Toot and the Maytals. I was hoping to hear her talk about it on this video...
I wonder what her recollection of that is, and how it may have inspired her interpretation of the song. Modern music usually goes much deeper in history than we are aware of, and it's important for artists to give credit where credit is due.

Sister Nancy deserves to be recognized. Long overdue. Salute 👑
I'm from Trinidad and not once have I ever heard a radio D.J mention her name after playing her hit song, "bam bam" for over three decades! Many people don't know her by name but they surely know her song. I always loved listening to her song since childhood.❤
You really didn't know????👀
Ohhh I now see why sorry I asked
Its a good thing she said her name in the song
Same 🇹🇹
I'm from Chicago and always knew....hmmm
I’m still playing Sister Nancy today! She’s a G.
My mom used to play Sister Nancy (amongst other artist) at our humble house in Puerto Rico when it came out (early 80's) and till today is one of my favorite songs, and my mom and I dance it when it comes out💃🇵🇷.
I heard this song alot I never knew it was from back in 1982.

That song still moves me today. Glad to see she’s still alive.
Not me just putting a face to this song on 2/15/2022 at 11:49 p.m. 🤨 I first heard this song on the movie Belly. Then heard it again on the Netflix series “Maid” on Season 1 episode 3. My daughter’s watching it now but I’ve already seen it. So when I heard it playing I was like let me put this on my playlist before I forget again. Never knew which artist sang this. 🤦🏽♀️ my bass is going to be like BAM BAM 💥 tomorrow blasting this 🔈 🔊 🗣💪🏽👏🏽🥰
I just caught my 3 year old jammin to this song, 1st time hearing it and the music just hit his soul. This is a historical piece.
I'm a latecomer to Sister Nancy and I am in love, I feel this vibe so much! She is indeed a queen! Thanks to Ozarks for playing Bam Bam in Season 4, Episode 1.
I remember the first time i heard Bam Bam. It was 1990, i was living in NYC and i was 9. I was on Pitkins Ave in Brooklyn
She’s is one of the GOAT! So under rated. Love her music.
Man...my father brought this album..I was 9 now i'm 44...and bam bam was the song we scratched out first!
Debbie Marquis its been 35 years!!!!
This song is played heavily still to this day at parties , movies hell even Instagram models that can’t even “whine”. It made all my friends want to go to Jamaica with our last dime.
I never knew who sung this song . She’s a legend in my opinion. She earns everything. I hope she wins lawsuit
Bam Bam is very POPULAR outside the Yard! I not only have this song in my playlist, my 9 year old has loved this song since she was 2. ❤️
She is still beautiful and she STILL has it!
Right??!!
Really bummed she didn’t receive her royalties and recognition from her music at the time.
Yes! Take their ass to court girl!
We still bumping

This is by far one of the best reggae songs ever!!!! And still very popular to this day!!!!!
She should be so rich from bam bam
Godfather Creed she's well off...plus she was an accountant for 15 years..
for real rich rich rich
Trish James Of course Jamaicans wear many hats got 3 jobs man!
I wonder why she could not get any royalty from belly?
NO..NANCY CAN'T BE RICH FROM BAM BAM..THAT IS NOT HER ORIGINAL LYRICS...LOOK IT UP..TOOTS & THE MATYALS ORIGINATE THIS SONG!
Living legend
this woman gives me chills a legend
I was popular in Trinidad in the late 1980 from my recollection…. Maybe it was around before but it was poping. Now I live in the US and paying it so much over the years my kid is humming and sing to it… still amazing vocal and beats…..magic of real music is being accepted generationally.
What a women this lady can’t knock her energy from 🇯🇲 to 🇬🇧 love ❤️
Wow...1982? That's the year I was born. This song been powerful for a long time!
1990s decade was an era of communion in the music industry.
The original Bam Bam was written by Byron Lee and recorded by The Maytals in 1966 for a music festival.
Belly definitely amplified her song but any dancehall lovers been heard and loved that song! Can’t even believe they never played it in Jamaica. That’s unbelievable! Glad she’s getting her just do!! 👑💗
Shameful she wasnt properly compensated all those years for how big Bam Bam was =/
It’s a shady fuckin business. Lot of reggae artists got screwed over
She didnt make a lot from bam bam? Damn mens world BS
Dummy, it wasn't even originally hers, how do you think Toots Hibbert felt
@@Iknowyoumadnow first of all nobody is dumb around here but you with this unecessarily rude comment. Now, imagine how much more Toots would have made as well if she got paid too? Now go be rude elsewhere.
Exactly just shady people
Bam Bam was played in Ozark season 4. It surprised me when the cartel boss’s nephew was playing it
It's disgusting she was withheld any funds and recognition from her track on just Belly alone. That was iconic.
i love her she trully a pioneer of this wonderful 👏 ❤ music....old school O.G MAMA
I remember buying this in 82, still have it on wax!
Just saw her in Oakland. Best show I've ever seen in my life. So much love for this woman

Wowww sticky mikes is a blast from the past!
Got introduced to this album in Toronto, high school 1992. This was the stand out track off a mega record. Been playing it ever since. Nancy is an icon! Love from Canada.
Hearing her sing it herself is amazing.
Sister, Nancy❤ 40 years later your song is still a classic sample from the movie belly rest in peace, DMX 🕊️🕊️🕊️🙏🏾
I will always love sister nancy.
WOW! That's such a great song, she didn't know her record was a huge success.. She needs her royalties!
OH!!! The sister herself is as real as real can be AND she’s sporting her BLING!!! Keep on sampling it to honor Her Majesty!
Ty sister Nacy beautiful freestyle
This song is a part of my life's soundtrack. I Didn't know what she looked like for 30 years, thank God for TH-cam.
I knew the song but I didn't know her, or her name. There's a viral video going around now and I had to check her out. I love reggae music. I'm happy she's finally getting some recognition for her talents 💛
Respectfully i dunno which parties she was going to in Jamaica but it was one of the biggest songs in Jamaica. My uncle ran a sound system in the 80s and 90s and it was played multiple times at most parties.
This song is in my playlist! We know you, Sister Nancy 🥰🥰 much love and respect ✊🏾
Bam bam just hits you everytime you hear it..like a true hit really can!!!!! 🕊🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🕊
She was in the spirit.
What does that mean?
My introduction was from the sample Main Source did "Just Hangin Out" 1991 the album "Breaking Atoms"...😁 ..still one of my all time favorite hip hop joints..😊😊😊😍
1982 and she didn’t fully get compensated until Reebok came out with the commercial in 2014!! 16 years after Belly. Enjoy your money Sister Nancy. The music (entertainment) industry can be so unscrupulous. This has happened to too many.
Big up yuh self mumma Nancy! Bam Bam 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Incredible track, I hope Sister will get all the royaltes she deserves
I had the grace to meet this amazing Queen once,... Bless up to the Queen , Sista Nancy ❤️😎💚

🥰🎶🇯🇲❤
she need to be compensated for her work
michael lawson Amara La Negra remade it.
What work? She had no idea what she was even going to sing when she went into the studio to record it at 20 years old.
As an African I enjoy reggae beat when its live or playing loud at a joyful event. That rythm is magical and you can tell the true nature or character of the artist singing or leading the band. Thanks a lot to Jamaica for the great Dance Hall saga!!
Possibly the most sampled hook of all time!
So much so that she herself ALSO sampled it!
Bam Bam was a remake of Yellowman and Fathead
